Many different parties fielded candidates, including one called the Union of Congolese Nationalist Federalists. And while UNAFEC didnt earn enough votes to take the Prime Ministers seat, they did well enough to get at least one spot in the cabinet. On February 5, 2007, Andre Kasongo Ilunga, a UNAFEC member, was named the nations Minister for Foreign Trade. But his time in office would be short-lived. He never showed up for work and, shortly after being sworn in, he sent in a letter of resignation instead.
