Leadership Lessons From A Retired Police Officer

Success Profiles Radio

John Salkowski was this week’s guest on Success Profiles Radio. He is the author of the book “Leadership in the Line of Duty: 50 Lessons for Making Split Second Decisions from a Cop Who Has Been in Life and Death Situations.” We discussed his law enforcement career, and in particular, we talked about the most dangerous situation he ever faced while working on the police force. It turned his life upside down for several years afterward. John also talked about how to relate to different personality types and how that has impacted his success. He also talked about mastering our inner voices and how that affects our mindset on a daily basis. Other topics of discussion included how to know whether or not someone is walking in integrity, the importance of passion, and how to develop mental toughness. Perhaps most importantly, we talked about how to make split-second decisions and how to increase our capacity to do so.
