Gayatri Mantra with new yoga teachers

The Gayatri Mantra, “Om Bhur Bhuvah Swah,” is one of the most sacred mantras chanted by new yoga teacher during a saturday evening satsang at Yoga Vidya www.yoga-vidya.de in Bad Meinberg, Germany. It is a Vedic mantra and is said to contain the essence of the Vedas. The Gayatri Mantra is addressed to Savitri. Savitri is the radiant one, the luminous one. Savitri also stands for, one might say, greatness, and also for “driving force.” Savitri is also the name of the sun deity.

Bhargo Devasya Dhimahi /
Dhiyo Yo Nah Prachodayat //

Spiritual translation

Oh Divine Light, you have created all three worlds (Bhu, Bhuvar, Swar) with your light. We worship you. We meditate on you. Please enlighten and permeate us with your radiance.
