Il caso della Musa del DAMS, come veniva chiamata Francesca Alinovi, nel corso degli anni ha smesso di essere considerato un semplice delitto ed ha assunto una forte valenza simbolica: è diventato lo spartiacque che ha segnato il brusco risveglio alla realtà per una generazione.
Il DAMS infatti rappresentava in quegli anni un mondo libero e libertario, mal visto dal corpo accademico istituzionale e dai ceti più conservatori della popolazione. C'è stato chi ha approfittato di questo delitto per criminalizzare un'intera categoria, e chi l'ha utilizzato per trasformare la Alinovi in un'icona in cui, molto probabilmente, lei non si sarebbe mai riconosciuta.
