The former president publicly went after Cassidy Hutchinson after her testimony in front of the Jan. 6th Committee, and he may have attempted to intimidate her behind the scenes as well. Over at the Supreme Court, their recent rulings regarding religion further erode the idea that America’s government should operate independently of any church. And Rep. Kinzinger tells Stephen that the Jan. 6th Committee was aware of threats against Cassidy Hutchinson’s safety and that’s why her testimony was given at a hastily-announced surprise hearing on June 28th. He also addresses his frustration with the DOJ’s handling of people who refuse to testify before the Jan. 6th Committee, and lays out the bottom-line purpose of the committee: to make the coup plotters pay for their crimes.

Today’s surprise Jan. 6th Committee hearing featured testimony from Cassidy Hutchinson who described shockingly violent behavior by the former president and damning details about how White House officials knew things could get out of control at the “Stop The Steal” rally. Next, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez returns to The Late Show with her assessment of today’s Jan. 6th Committee hearing and her assertion that any member of congress who sought a pardon for their role in the insurrection should be expelled from their seat in the House of Representatives. The Congresswoman also says Democrats, in particular President Biden, need to show the American people they are ready to fight and to create leverage by signaling willingness to expand the Supreme Court and end the filibuster in the Senate.
