What Trends are Done? Let's talk about the trends that are over. Remember when buying trendy decor, it's best to not spend too much on home decor trends. If it's super hot today, then it will be out in a few years. You don't want to be ripping out your kitchen counter top every 5 years or even your sofa. We suggest going with classics for your big ticket items, then buy inexpensive items that are on trend, so it's not a large amount of money. Then when the trend is over, you won't be sad.

We're seeing ikat and trellis fabric going good-bye. Accent walls, macrame, cherry cabinets and inexpensive reproduction farmhouse decor is all out. If you have something that is on the 'out' list, but you still love it, then keep it. Don't feel like you have to stay current with trends, if that doesn't work for you.

Yes, it's really our 300th episode. Wow, how time flies.

Are you a collector? Do you have a passion for dishes, or linens or something else? Let's talk about how to collect without becoming a hoarder. What are the do's and don'ts of collecting?

First, try to curate your collections so that you just have your favorite pieces, the best of the best. You don't need a hundred items to make it a curated collection. Next try to do a write up on the items for future generations. Why are you collecting the items? What is their importance to you or your family?  Make a note of anything of a large monetary value so your family will know.  If you suspect your collection is worth a lot of money, have it appraised, then consider securing a rider on your insurance policy for the items, so they will be covered in case of loss.

We also encourage people to display their items and if possible, use them. I collect dishes, and I try to use them often. Boxing things and putting them in the attic is not a good way to enjoy them.

Let's declutter and get our homes ready for the new year.  If you want to feel more peaceful and you're ready to clear out the extra stuff, then this is your episode.

Firstly, please find someone to give your discards to. If you have old towels or blankets, check with your local humane society to see if they will take them. We try to give away the things that someone else might want, to minimize things going into a landfill.

Secondly try to do a declutter at least once a year. If you don't the job will become too overwhelming and you won't even want to start it.

Put like things together, that way you'll be able to find things and know where everything is. Now you will be less likely to accidentally buy something you already have.

If you find you have 500 envelopes (like I did) give them away. Who needs that many envelopes these days?

I just did a major declutter in my home and it feel so good to be able to find things now.

Get excited because today we're talking all about the Decorating trends for 2019. We're discussing the trends we're seeing, what's in, what's out, and our take on the whole thing.

Wires & the technology that the wires support are part of our lives. The concept of wireless is fantasy. Even the "wireless" phones, gadgets and more that claim to be wireless are not. Even 'wireless' things need to be charged. So rather than giving in and putting up with the wireless lie we have solutions for you!

It is New Years Eve! Exciting!!

Anita and I both prefer a cozy New Year's Eve at home. And since I have the Rose Bowl Parade literally yards from my house, leaving my area tonight is not an option. So making a lovely dinner at home is the call.

Brown paper packages wrapped up with string. These are a few of my favorite things. We both agree simplier is better for wrapping gifts. We suggest using kraft paper or plain white wrapping paper with bakers twine or a simple ribbon bow. If you want more color, go with a simple two color paper, or go with tone on tone. Then match your ribbon to your wrapping paper color.

Tis the season for hosting parties, but ours tips apply no matter the time of year. The over arching tip is ~ keep it simple, stay relaxed and enjoy! If you do those 3 things your guests will have a wonderful time no matter what.

Often we say "Rule - Schmule" ~ well, something like that.

We generally like to pave our own decorating road and encourage you to do the same. That being said, there are some tried & true rules which when followed make decorating easier and the look better.

Fall is a great time for cozy recipes. We love to cook and bakes, especially in the fall. Today we'ere sharing our very favorite fall recipes. So get ready for some mouth-watering recipes.

Yvonne's raw apple cake is HERE

Anita's herb cheese   
1 clove garlic
2 (8-ounce) packages cream cheese, softened
1 cup butter, softened
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1/4 teaspoon dried basil
1/4 teaspoon dried dill weed
1/4 teaspoon dried marjoram
1/4 teaspoon dried thyme
1/4 teaspoon pepper

Process in food processor or use your immersion blender.

Anita's WASSAIL 
2 quarts apple juice
2 cups orange juice
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 (3-inch) stick cinnamon
1 teaspoon whole cloves
1 teaspoon whole allspice

Combine all ingredients in a Dutch oven; bring to a boil. Simmer for at least an hour. Serve hot.

Living large in the living room ! This has nothing to do with size, but how you outfit this room for function, comfort & style. See yours with new eyes today. That new perspective, coupled with our help may just make this your favorite room in your house.

This is the perfect time of the year to re-examine, re-think and maybe even re-arrange your living room. After all many people only enter the living room for holidays & with company. ( funny that it is called the living room - maybe more the ocassional room for some! ) . So with the holidays heading our way soon let's get living large in the living room.

Head on into yours with a fresh set of eyes. Remove what doesn't move you. Like Kelly says, "if it doesn't move you - move it". Someplace else or out for donation, consignment or gifting.

With the unloved out of the way think about the funcationalty of the room. Are there clear paths of traffic? Are there spots where conversation can be comfortably had? If not, make changes in the positioning of the furniture.

If you don't, but want to use your living room more, think of ways to make it a multi-tasking room. A game table or reading nook are lovely ideas. A pool table, not so much ;)

Break up matching furniture sets and / or too much of the same patterned fabrics.

Add something round. Round is a wonderful shape to add to a room that traditionally has a lot of rectangles and squares. It is an organic, calming shape that might just be the thing to take your living room to the next level of lovely!

We have all made decorating blunders; some of us have made a lot of them. Because The three of us have made so many blunders, we're well versed in how to fix them. The great news is that most of them can be fixed.

It happens to all of us at one point or another ~ the same old same old.

We are stuck in a decorating rut. Wanting a new fresh look, but not knowing exactly how to change things up for the better.

As always, we have practical actionable advice for you so by this afternoon you will have climbed right out of that decorating rut. Let's get climbing...
