Sex is NOT a four-letter word

This episode is a refreshing reminder that healing doesn’t come in one-size-fits-all packages. As we chat with Choiwee Moon, who is a passionate intimacy coach and somatic therapist, we peel back the layers of what it means to truly connect with ourselves and others in the realm of sexuality.

Choiwee’s journey is nothing short of inspiring; she shares how her traumatic childhood experiences led her to embrace a life dedicated to helping others navigate their own paths to healing. We tackle the stigmas surrounding sex, discussing how these taboos still impact our relationships today. Choiwee emphasizes the need for open dialogue and education—because let’s face it, many of us were taught just enough about sex to get by, but not nearly enough to thrive.

Throughout our conversation, we also touch on the societal pressures that shape our views on masculinity and femininity, and how these often create barriers to authentic intimacy. Choiwee’s insights illuminate how critical it is to find safe spaces to explore our desires and communicate our needs. So, if you’ve ever felt like your sexual journey has been fraught with confusion or disconnect, this episode is a must-listen. Trust me, it’s time to put down the shame and start celebrating our bodies and our stories!

Takeaways:

  • Navigating the complex world of sexual trauma requires understanding and professional support, especially if past experiences affect current relationships.
  • Healing from trauma is a lifelong journey, meaning you gotta embrace the ups and downs instead of chasing that elusive 'perfect' state of being.
  • Conversations about sex are still taboo in many cultures, which means we have to be brave and create safe spaces to discuss intimacy openly.
  • It's important to know your own body and desires before expecting your partner to read your mind about what pleases you. Self-discovery is key!
  • The idea of gender roles in relationships is evolving, and flexibility in expressing both masculine and feminine traits can lead to healthier dynamics.
  • Creating emotional safety in relationships allows both partners to thrive, so make space to express vulnerability without fear of judgment.

Through life’s pressure, I will create diamonds. That’s the attitude from which legacies are born.

Lois was raised in Jamaica and migrated to the United States at the age of 16. Although life was very different as a teenager in New York than it had been in her homeland, she brought with her the inner glow and confidence that her grandmother had instilled along the way.

While in NY, she met a man who she would go on to spend 30 yrs with and build a family and a legacy with.

Michael Hines began Tropic Isle in 1992 with a suitcase, a gallon of Jamaican Black Castor Oil, a hand cart, and a dream to celebrate Jamaican traditions & remedies. Later it would become Tropic Isle Living. It was then that Michael Anthony Hines would coin the name that is now recognized as “Jamaican Black Castor Oil”.

Following Michael's passing in 2016, Lois was given the option to sell Tropic Isle Living or to become the fearless leader that it greatly needed. Lois chose the latter.

Today, Lois has made it her mission to carry out Michael’s vision of making Jamaican Black Castor Oil a household staple, and Tropic Isle Living continues to flourish and now can be found in many beauty supply stores, health food stores, and major retailers around the globe.

Tune in to her this beautiful story of resilience and determination. A journey, that in spite of the hardships along the way, was rooted in love. A love not only for her partner, but for God and how that loved carried her through those fires and made her a stronger person because of them.

Pocket of Hope

View

He only had a Pocket of Hope.

Chad freely admits that had it not been for his relationship with God, he would not be here today. His years of horrific child abuse led him into a life full of gangs, drugs, and alcohol. This also led him to time in prison.

In 2001, Chad’s mother killed his stepfather. But in his darkest times, he also knew God had more planned for his life than what he was currently experiencing. Chad never gave up working and believing that one day this would come together, and it would allow him to help millions of people that suffer from depression, trauma, and PTSD.

In 2004 Chad was honored as one of the Ten Most Outstanding Young Americans (TOYA) in the country. In 2008, he was awarded with the Daily Points of Light by President George Bush.

But by 2020, Chad’s health began declining because of fibromyalgia and his own battle with PTSD. As he began to write his book, WHO Am I (The Chad Gaines story), Chad was sleeping on the streets in San Francisco while working a full-time job six days a week. But he also knew he had a big edge on most people because he was too crazy to stop. Finally, in 2023, Chad’s book was released which sparked a new chapter in his life.

Hollywood has now begun turning Chad’s life story into a movie called Pocket of Hope and will be released theatrically soon.

Tune in to hear this amazing story of resilience and how God’s plan for us is always bigger than the mess we find ourselves in.

Mercedes grew up in church and knew of God but didn’t have a real connection to God. Early in her life she fell into drugs and alcohol and the distance between her and God grew.

As Mercedes got herself clean and sober, she also found herself growing that relationship with God again. The world around her was weighing her down but her boyfriend, Tristan, and continued prayer eventually created the peace in her life that she had been seeking.

Today, Mercedes has a wonderful child, a healthy relationship with Tristan, and a loving relationship with Christ. She tries to help as many others become clean and sober, and to find their way to God as well. It is her mission to give back to those in need and to live every day as an embodiment of the Word of God. Like many mothers, Imke has struggled at times with ‘mum guilt.’ And as many people do, she went looking for answers that would help her understand these emotions and to overcome them.

Since she couldn’t find what she was looking for, she did her own research and, along with her own experiences, wrote a book to help not only herself, but other moms as well. The Art of Navigating Mum Guilt is a heartfelt collection of stories and experiences from women who have navigated the emotional challenges of motherhood. This book is like sitting down with a close friend for a comforting and insightful chat, allowing you to feel understood and supported.

Imke and I discuss some of the challenges moms face and some of the chapters she has written about.

Through Imke’s loving light and caring soul, she is teaching other women how to love themselves and to handle the unique challenges that come at any stage of motherhood and to embrace the journey with compassion and confidence.

Christa Theg: Life Outside the Bubble

53 min
View

Christa grew up with a compromised immune system and spent most of her childhood with nurses and doctors. She was unable to have the level of inner activity with her peers as most children do. Instead, she spent her time reading and expanding her mind.

Stress and other activities would cause issues with her system, so she spent a lot of time with family and resting. This caused Christa to want to explore the mental health aspect of life and although she had originally wanted to be a vet, she became a mental health advocate instead.

It has only been within the last few years that Christa has been able to come off her protocols and begin to live a more ‘normalized’ life.

Christa’s journey of self-discovery has taken several twists over the years.

Tune in to hear how self-awareness and determination can help overcome a lot of things, and even with a life altering ‘disability,’ you don’t have to live your life in a bubble

You can also reach out to Christa at https://affiliatemarketingsidehustle.blogspot.com/

In fact, he said that actually made him lazy.

As an adult, Michael had to teach himself discipline and how to overcome any limitations others may have put upon him. Today, Michael is married and has become an advocate for those with disabilities. Ann knew from a very early age that she was gifted and special. She didn’t fully understand those gifts until later in life when she stumbled into massage therapy and Reiki. Ann found herself helping others and even wound up working with a couple who was in hospice, and actually worked with them for 5 years.

Ann went on to become a mental health advocate and has put on conferences and events around this subject and she has also made several films as well.

A few years ago, her entire world was shattered by the loss of her son. Suddenly, Ann felt like a fraud and withdrew from her life. She dove into the subject of grief and figured out how to live life without her son. Through this period of her life, she developed a course to help teach and guide others through their grief. Ann also eventually also wrote a book to help the healing process.

By allowing herself grace, Ann has been able to move forward in life and continues to show up in her authentic way and has regained her mind, body, spirit connection.

Nick grew up on the Jersey shore where he attended Catholic school and even though Nick was an honors student in math and physics, he used the things that he enjoyed for fun as an escape from the rest of life. So naturally, Nick headed off to college to pursue a degree in art with a minor in radio and video.

He was a sculptor, and his dream was to have his art exhibited in big shows. Nick wanted his ‘day job,’ until he made it as an artist, to be in something close to art and came across a job in sale and advertising, which turned out to be a MLM position. During this time, Nick discovered that he had a skill for boosting the confidence in others.

Several years later, he got a job in the HR department of a casino in Atlantic City. Nick took the job head-on and soon became a sought-after recruiter in the industry. He was also willing to do the jobs others didn’t want to do and was always trying to find a way to do more than was being asked of him.

After years in the corporate world, Nick decided that it was time to do his own thing. He now owns a painting company, does his own podcast, and has become a public speaker. He is a true servant leader and gives his very best to all of his clients.

Tune in for this insightful journey through the lens of an artist who happened to also thrive in the corporate world. Hear how important the ability to pivot is as life around us continues to change.

Susan is a writer, community creator, coach, wife, and mom. One of her children has autism so needless to say, life in her household is a little different than it is for others.

Susan was already practicing home schooling (or as she calls it, unschooling) with her other children, so having to teach her autistic child from home was something she had been prepared for.

But Susan’s purpose and passion goes beyond just raising her children. It is to bring awareness to the way society has treated those with autism and that there is real proof that the knowledge and understanding of the autistic person is “in there,” and there are better ways to bring them “out.”

Tune in to this fantastic conversation that will truly help bring awareness and change to the way we interact with those with autism.

Jennifer became an advocate for the caregivers of people with Alzheimer’s after a personal experience with it when providing care for her mother. She went looking for information and when she couldn’t easily find it, she created her own podcasting platform, Fading Memories. Jan Wakefield: Midwife to the Spirit World

55 min
View

Jan grew up in Pittsburg, PA and spent a lot of her childhood sick. The climate of PA did not bode well for her, and she had upper respiratory issues most of her life.

Eventually Jan moved to Arizona, which was better for her physical body, but then she developed chronic migraines. In Arizona Jan was introduced to alternative medicines and techniques including, chiropractic care and acupuncture. For about 10 years she ‘wrote off’ allopathic medicine and began her journey into a more natural route and eventually into ‘energy medicine.’

Jan originally had dreams of becoming a pilot in the military, but her short stature and vision issues prohibited those plans, so instead, she went into teaching. She started at the elementary level but after 10 years, Jan found higher education to be a better fit and taught at the college level for over 25 years.

Jan had a spiritual awakening when she was very young and sought out a deeper connection with God. Through her healing journey, she studied a variety of religions and eventually found herself studying the shamanic healings of the indigenous people of Arizona.

Today, Jan is an author, coach, and public speaker. She often refers to her spiritual practice as being a midwife to the spirit world and she loves helping others go within and transform their lives through mindfulness and meditation.

Tune in for a discussion that may spark a desire, or continuation, of your own transformation and inner healing.

Laura grew up on the streets of west LA and minutes away from Hollywood and Beverly Hills. Her family was in show business, and she spent time with the rich and famous. Unlike many who grew up in that area, she was able escape the pitfalls that region is known for.

At around the age of 17, her family then moved to a very small town in California, which was not as diverse and fast paced as LA. So, after she graduated high school, she decided to go back to LA and started modeling. This led her into becoming a hostess at a busy nightclub. Around this time her life entered its drug and alcohol phase for the first time.

Laura eventually met her future husband and removed herself from that scene and transformed her life yet again. Laura is a high octane individual and has lived a lot of unique experiences over the course of her life.

Join us on this wild ride through a glimpse of Laura’s life and how she managed to survive growing up in LA. She is now a diverse entrepreneur who is an actress, podcast hostess, real estate coordinator, horse enthusiast, and animal lover.

Kandy Windom: From Rags to Riches

45 min
View

Born and raised in Columbia, Kandy grew up in extreme poverty. School and academia were her salvation and through the guidance of her grandfather, she was able to find the internal fortitude that helped her survive the hardships encountered at such a young age.

Fate also had plans for Kandy’s life. As an adult, her sister had been invited to a party, but Kandy went instead. At the party, she met a US Marine, and the next day, he asked her to marry him. She already had two children and didn’t speak English, but because he had accepted the entire package, she said yes, and three months later, they were married and came to the United States.

Because her husband was in the military, and on deployment often, he encouraged Kandy to pursue her education and to become independent just in case anything happened to him, and he was no longer able to support her. She learned to speak English, drive, and continued her education.

Today, not only does Kandy have her master’s degree, but also her PhD. She worked her way through corporate America and had also worked for Homeland Security. Eventually Kandy started her own coaching business and now runs a multi-million-dollar career.

Her hard work and determination have given Kandy a rags-to-riches life. Tune in to a story of a person who lives in gratitude, is thankful for the doors God has opened, and shows what the power of focus can do to change the trajectory of one’s life.

65 min
View

Staci and her two siblings were born and raised in Arizona and as the middle child, she grew up wanting to be the people pleaser and to have everyone like her. Her family was into sports, so Staci initially became a gymnast, which she did very well at. In order to gain some of her time back, she eventually switched to playing softball and excelled at that too.

After high school, Staci, who is close with her family, was not ready to move away to go to college so played softball at a local community college. But again, because she was really good, a larger university saw her potential and gave her a scholarship to come play for them. Staci played ball in Florida while also attending nursing school. Between being homesick, and the harshness of one of her coaches, Staci almost quit to just come home. She is so glad she stuck it out.

Staci now looks back on those times and understands the blessings it all was and the lessons she was able to learn along the way that continue to serve her well today. Through both athletics, and nursing, Staci knows the value of teamwork and dedication. She knows that there’s value in every ‘failure’ as long as you learn and grow from it, and how it has shaped her beyond her own imagination. Staci knows the beauty happens when she has dug in and made the decision to move forward in life.

These life lesson helped Staci with her 14-year nursing career, her 20+ years as an entrepreneur, and her 20+ years as a wife and mother, lessons she is now able to pass along to her own children. Tune it to hear a wonderful story that illustrates the beauty found in life’s challenges when you are determined to make them so. Life truly is a team sport and when the desire is to raise each other up, really good things are possible.

(APOLOGIES FOR THE HOST'S AUDIO. UNEXPECTED TECH ISSUES ON HIS MIC, BUT RAÏSSA'S AUDIO IS FINE.)

Raïssa refers to her childhood growing up as ‘the little fat girl with the unusual name.’ Although she was named after the wife of one of her mother’s favorite philosophers, Raïssa had a fairly normal Midwest upbringing, but she felt that her unusual name gave her a certain freedom to just be whatever she wanted to be because others already considered her odd.

Raïssa developed the creative introvert within and made her own happiness along the way. She used art and writing as her escape. After college, she made her way into the corporate world and spent years climbing that preverbal corporate ladder. But after that length of time, the corporate world started to drain her mental health.

She and her husband made the decision that it was ok to ‘retire’ early and step into her creative passions and step OFF that corporate ladder. Today she is an author, painter, and entrepreneur. Raïssa has redefined what life should look like for herself and is living her authentic self to this very day.

When we last spoke with Kelli, she was at the very beginning of her healing journey. Today, Kelli is stepping into the person she always knew she was meant to be and is helping others along the way to do the same. She has learned the value of protecting that little girl who lives inside her and the tremendous value of living an authentic life.

As a veteran, Kelli has a passion for helping other veterans avoid suicide and to reconnect with their authentic self as well. Through https://saveawarrior.org she found an organization whose motto is WE CAME BACK FOR YOU™. What those involved often discover is not only others who are willing to lend a hand, but their inner selves, who have also been forgotten, and their adult selves coming back to rescue themselves along the way.

Navigating our trauma is a process that is rarely easy. But when we are willing to do it, the transformation is wonderful. Tune in to hear how Kelli was able to ‘come back for her inner self,’ and embrace the woman she is today. Her strength and courage to do so is inspirational and is certainly worth the listen.
