Solomonster Sounds Off

Solomonster reviews the go home edition of WWE Smackdown for November 24th with a change for the better in the Survivor Series card, and tensions flaring between members of the babyface squad in War Games, but not much else to really speak of. The Judgment Day stopped by to defend their Undisputed tag team titles, but it certainly wasn't made out to feel like anything special.

Solomonster reviews AEW Dynamite for November 22nd with the start of the Continental Classic and one mistake Tony Khan already made with the main event on this show. Solomonster reviews AEW Full Gear 2023 with a main storyline you really had to turn your brain off to buy into and Will Ospreay announced as AEW's new blockbuster acquisition, while Hangman Page and Swerve Strickland gave us the most violent match in AEW history. Frankly, it's one of the most violent matches in wrestling history.

Episode 835 has the fallout from AEW Full Gear, including the most violent match I think I've ever seen, and Will Ospreay as the major new signing Tony Khan was talking about. I've been seeing a lot of comments about Ospreay not being a "mainstream star", as if this is somehow the criteria now for judging pro wrestling signings, until you realize there's actually a very simple reason for it, and it's pathetic (as are the people who peddle it). Plus, news on Ronda Rousey's status with AEW/ROH after this week... details on the Continental Classic, what's at stake with AEW doing its own version of a Triple Crown and why it's not as prestigious as Tony Khan makes it out to be... WWE said to have interest in signing New Japan Pro Wrestling's biggest star and one of the best in the world... Cody Rhodes responds to the idea of The Rock taking his spot at Wrestlemania 40... Solomonster reviews WWE Smackdown for November 10th with Asuka joining the ranks of Damage CTRL as the pieces comes together for the women's War Games match at Survivor Series. Santos Escobar attacks Rey Mysterio as tension boils over in the ranks of the LWO. Kevin Owens sits in for Corey Graves on commentary and ends up "suspended" by the end of the night. It was a newsworthy episode, despite the WWE champion and US champion being absent from the show, something likely to happen a lot between now and the Royal Rumble.

Solomonster reviews WWE Crown Jewel 2023 with LA Knight challenging Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE championship and falling to the usual Bloodline nonsense. Seth Rollins and Drew McIntyre steal the show, but otherwise, there wasn't much for them to steal to win that honor. Solomonster reviews the go home edition of WWE Smackdown before Crown Jewel, a taped show from last week that wasn't bad, but was completely missable. We got good stuff in the main event between Bianca Belair and Bayley, and John Cena burning Solo Sikoa on the microphone in what may well be his final Smackdown appearance, but outside of that, it was largely filler. But never any filler here, so enjoy!

Solomonster reviews AEW Dynamite for November 1st with another HUGE Tony Khan announcement... for tickets to a show that is still nearly a year away. But it's huge! Plus, MJF searches for partners to tag with against Bullet Club Gold, Paul Wight returning to the ring even though it looks like he can barely move and Adam Copeland agrees to partner with Sting and Darby Allin at Full Gear. This will not go down as one of the better episodes of Dynamite this year.

Solomonster reviews WWE Monday Night Raw for October 30th, the final Raw before Crown Jewel, with a hard push towards the Cody Rhodes/Damian Priest match and Seth Rollins against Drew McIntyre with two excellent promos from both men. The Creed Brothers from NXT also answered the Alpha Academy's open challenge and had a great debut. But WWE is also trying again with The Miz as a babyface and it never works in the long term. Finally, this is a Be The Booker segment to close out the show that you will not believe.

Solomonster reviews WWE Smackdown for October 27th, a decent enough episode but hardly anything exciting one week out from Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia. But Roman Reigns showed up for work, which is rare these days, to sign the contract for his championship defense against LA Knight. John Cena is also facing what he calls a "must win" match with Solo Sikoa at Crown Jewel and boy are they playing up the sympathy factor with him of late. But it seems to be working because this latest run of his appears to be coming an end shortly. Also included at the top are thoughts on the Santana vs. Ortiz match that opened AEW Rampage.

Solomonster reviews WWE Monday Night Raw for October 23rd and the streak of really good shows has come to a screeching halt at two. The fans in Dallas didn't have a lot to get excited about, but were also probably keeping track of their two baseball teams during the show. Triple H has a tall order in front of him as he hit the reset button in many ways on several stars that have either yet to make a connection to the audience or have not been utilized on TV in a long time. Meanwhile, Drew McIntyre continues to be the most interesting character on the show and Cody Rhodes finds himself dealing with another storyline injury heading into Crown Jewel.

This past Tuesday saw AEW and NXT in a head-to-head battle that brought out the absolute worst in wrestling fans, but it also seemed to send Tony Khan into a tailspin after the numbers came out. I'll break down the back and forth between the two sides leading up to the shows, Tony's reaction to the ratings loss and the trolling he received online, why it makes AEW look bad, why it's so personal to him and a plea to him going forward, plus a history lesson for those who don't think Vince McMahon would ever be caught dead reacting in a similar way. AND SPEAKING OF VINCE MCMAHON... it's looking more and more like he may have gotten played by Ari Emanuel, who publically cited McMahon this week as one of the reasons for the recent TKO stock drop, while Endeavor gives Triple H full creative control over the WWE product, the changes we're already seeing and why this is a GREAT thing... the latest on CM Punk and a possible return to WWE, which doesn't look very likely... thoughts on Nick Aldis being named the new Smackdown general manager, the return of dueling GMs for Raw and Smackdown and Kevin Owens being traded back to the blue brand... the return of Roman Reigns, how WWE all but confirmed the main event for WrestleMania 40 this week and LA Knight challenging for the championship in Saudi Arabia?... the latest on Randy Orton's return and how it could factor into Survivor Series... Karrion Kross makes a surprising revelation about Bray Wyatt and Wrestlemania... Billy Corgan announces the return of the territory system and TWO television deals for the NWA. Finally, WWE recently aired a FOX special ranking the Top 25 Moments in Smackdown history and it was a doozie of a list. I'll go through the entire thing and then rank my own TOP 15 LIST covering the greatest moments in Smackdown history. Solomonster reviews WWE Monday Night Raw for September 11th, the final Raw under the ownership of Vince McMahon, and I can't think of a more fitting closing shot than the return of NIA JAX. Kairi Sane might want to reconsider her pending return after this. Drew McIntyre and Xavier Woods had an excellent match, and Chad Gable made it clear that he wants one more shot at Gunther's Intercontinental title, but overall, it was a lackluster show up against the opening night of Monday Night Football. Plus, the latest on the Matt Riddle situation and LA Knight's contract status.

Solomonster reviews WWE Smackdown with Jimmy Uso trying to work his way back into the good graces of Roman Reigns, even after all that has already happened. Even if you believe it makes sense because he wants to be the next Tribal Chief, this story is dragging and not in a good way. On the other hand, LA Knight continues to light up these crowds and is getting even more screen time on the show, which is a good thing. And we have a little tease of possible faction warfare involving The Bloodline, The Judgment Day and Bobby Lashley's new crew.

Solomonster reviews AEW Dynamite for September 6th, the post-All Out edition, with the start of the Grand Slam Eliminator tournament, an excellent confrontation between MJF and Samoa Joe and the start of a program with Hangman Page and Swerve Strickland. The pacing wasn't as chaotic as it usually is with the Wednesday shows, which was a notable plus.

Solomonster reviews AEW All Out 2023 from the United Center in Chicago, a show that exceeded expectations and actually topped All In for overall quality (one man's humble opinion). Orange Cassidy's International title reign finally comes to an end, Bryan Danielson returns and makes Ricky Starks, and the rest of us, experience a disturbing sense of brutality, Takeshita picks up the biggest win of his career and Samoa Joe starts some shit with MJF.
