We’ve got a great episode for everyone this week. Joining us from Norway to talk about their epic Catalina/Southern California/Vegas adventure, and so much more, are Coach Loyd Færøvik and Coach Ruben Wallentinsen, a.k.a., Team Swimosaurus Flex. We met this duo in Two Harbors and knew we wanted to get them on the show. In this conversation, we covered everything from treating hills like snacks, how powerlifting can make you a better Swimrunner, and what the local Swimrun scene in Norway looks like. This was a fun one!

Welcome to episode 272 of the Löw Tide Böyz - A Swimrun Podcast!

We’ve got nothing short of a masterpiece/masterclass episode this week. In 2022, Andy Blow joined us on Episode 118 for our Countdown to ÖTILLÖ series to share his thoughts on how to best approach fueling for ÖTILLÖ, The Swimrun World Championship. We decided to re-release this episode since it is still solid gold advice almost three years later. What he shared was nothing short of a continuous knowledge bomb that should be mandatory listening for anyone racing Worlds in September and frankly, anyone racing a Swimrun. Full stop.

Enjoy!

Full stop.

Enjoy!

Into The Deep End with...Deep End Fitness

Welcome to episode 262 of the Löw Tide Böyz - A Swimrun Podcast!

We’ve got a fun show for everyone this week! Given that it’s the off-season and good time to recharge the batteries, try new things, and get ready for “THE YEAR OF SWIMRUN” we thought it would be cool to invite Austin-locals and Swimrunners James English and Braden Bell to the show to talk about the relatively new training program called Deep End Fitness. Don’t know what we’re talking about but looking for a new training modality to try out? Well you’re about to get your mind blown!

Enjoy!

Welcome to episode 261 of the Löw Tide Böyz - A Swimrun Podcast!

Welcome to year 5 of the show! To kick things off for what we are already calling “THE YEAR OF SWIMRUN” we are joined by the queen of the sport herself, the incomparable Desirée Andersson. In this conversation we chatted about her 2024 season, how her training has evolved over the years, and what the future holds. She’s literally the best and we can’t think of a better way to kick off the year than having been bestowed the honor of an audience with The Queen.

Enjoy!

Torpedo Swimrun w/Rich McMartin

Welcome to episode 252 of the Löw Tide Böyz - A Swimrun Podcast!

Happy Halloween everybody! We’ve got a great show for everyone this week. Joining us from Cape Town, South Africa is Rich McMartin, founder of Torpedo Swimrun and host of the first Swimrun in Africa. The 2024 edition of this Swimrun is taking place on November 30th and we got all the details about the “coldest/coolest race in Africa. This was a great conversation and it’s more proof that the international Swimrun movement is alive and well!

But first…

Training/Chipper’s Knee Update

Chipper is back to running and is “not being an idiot” with his recovery.

Shoutout

This week’s shoutout goes to everyone racing ÖTILLÖ Austin this weekend. If you’re waiting for the last minute to sign up, well now is your time to shine! Use the code LOWTIDE15 to save 15% off of your registration.

Feats of Endurance

This week’s winner goes to Swimrunner and friend of show Jonathan Pascual for completing the Ironman World Championship in Kona over the weekend. In 2022, he was diagnosed with a rare and incurable form of cancer and never stopped fighting. Fast forward two years and he was able to train to complete one of the hardest triathlons on the planet. To call him an inspiration is an understatement!

Make sure to sign up for our LTBz Strava Club and join Swimrunners from around the world as they train for stuff.

Torpedo Swimrun

It was great to chat with Rich McMartin. We really hit it off and chatted about all sorts of stuff including his Rockman experience, hanging out with Michael Lemmel on Utö, and of course, we spoke at length about his Swimrun.

With that, let’s get to our conversation with Rich McMartin of Torpedo Swimrun.

Enjoy!

With that, let’s get to our conversation with Rich McMartin of Torpedo Swimrun.

Enjoy!

Welcome to episode 248 of the Löw Tide Böyz - A Swimrun Podcast!

We’ve got a special show for everyone this week. Fresh off of completing a feat of endurance for the ages, Nargus Harounzadeh (half of Team Därk Wäve) is back on the show to talk about her Manhattan Island 100km solo Swimrun. We’re talking a 50km swim around Manhattan followed by a 50km run around the perimeter of the island. If that wasn’t enough, she completed this feat a week after winning ÖTILLÖ Orcas Island Solo Long Course and three weeks after injuring her spine at ÖTILLÖ, The Swimrun World Championship.

Anyway, you have questions, we have questions, and Nargus has the answers.

Welcome to episode 245 of the Löw Tide Böyz - A Swimrun Podcast!

We’ve got another race recap for everyone this week. Joining us to talk about the epic 2024 edition of the Rockman Swimrun are Ben Paxton and Cameron Holman. Did we mention epic? This race is a total beast at baseline and this year’s race course was extra beastly. In this conversation Ben and Cameron bring the race to life and make a very, very compelling case to add this race to your bucket list.

But first…

Training Update Chipper’s Knee Update

No major update on Chipper’s knee other than it’s feeling better and he finally has an MRI scheduled.

Shoutout

This week’s shoutout goes out to everyone heading to ÖTILLÖ Orcas Island this weekend to take on the magical course nestled in the beautiful San Juan Islands. Pro tip: don’t miss the turn and end up in the pit of despair!

Feats of Endurance

This week’s winner is our friend Danny “Da Monsta” Divinov who finished Ironman Santa Cruz 70.3 over the weekend in a smoking time of 4:20! This guy has been living up to his nickname for as long as we’ve known him. Strong work!

Make sure to sign up for our LTBz Strava Club and join Swimrunners from around the world as they train for stuff.

Rockman Swimrun 2024 Race Recap

It was great to catch up with Ben and Cameron and get all the details on what was an epic day in Norway. They didn’t mention it during the conversation but Cameron finished in 2nd place with his partner Thierry Elena (from France) and Ben finished in 3rd place with his partner Sindre Sorensen (from Norway).

Taking on Big Challenges w/Susie Moonan

54 min
View

Welcome to episode 240 of the Löw Tide Böyz - A Swimrun Podcast!

We’ve got a great episode for everything this week. Joining us for a third time on the podcast is elite Swimrunner, Sociologist, Sport Psychologist, Performance and Mindset Coach, and our friend, Susie Moonan. In this conversation we discuss taking on big challenges and she prepares to take on the biggest Swimrun challenge of them all: The One Water Race. We loved this conversation and can’t wait for you to check it out!

But first…

Training Update

It’s Race Week!!!!! ÖTILLÖ Casco Bay is just a few days away! We’re stoked to be racing our 5th Casco and our 20th Swimrun as a team. The hay is in the barn training-wise and we’re looking forward to some sweet island hopping with everyone.

Shout Out

The shout out this week goes out to our newest Patron on Patreon, Jeremy G.! Thanks so much for the support and we look forward to seeing you in Portland!

Speaking of Portland, now is as good a time as any to share that we will be hosting our 4th Annual Casco Post-race Party this weekend. Join us on the roofdeck of Bayside Bowl on Sunday, August 11th from 5-7!

Feats of Endurance

Combo Feats of Endurance recognition to everyone that raced ÖTILLÖ Gothenburg over the weekend. The conditions looked amazing and it was great to see so many folks from our Strava Club out there. The FOMO was real!

With that, enjoy our conversation with Susie Moonan all about taking on big challenges in Swimrun and in life.

Enjoy!

Effortless Swimming w/ Brenton Ford

49 min
View

Welcome to episode 237 of the Löw Tide Böyz - A Swimrun Podcast!

We’ve got a great episode for everyone this week. Joining to talk about all things swimming is the founder of Effortless Swimming: Brenton Ford. If you’re not following their IG account for the wealth of swim tips that they share, you will by then of this conversation!

But first…

Training Update

With ÖTILLÖ Whistler in our rear view mirror, we have a couple of races coming up in quick succession with the Folsom Swimrun in a week and ÖTILLÖ Casco Bay in three-ish weeks. We’ll be training through Folsom and getting in some longer swims to get ready for the ocean swims in Maine.

Shoutout/Feats of Endurance

This week we are doing a combo to highlight everyone that raced Rockman over the weekend. Once again this epic race didn’t disappoint. For those who don’t know, this year’s edition of the race was 51 kms in distance with 6 kms of swimming in chilly fjord waters and 45 kms of “extreme” trail running. Oh, and there is almost 12,000’ of elevation gain on the course! Literally everyone that lined up for that race is a legend in our book.

Make sure to sign up for our LTBz Strava Club and join Swimrunners from around the world as they train for stuff.

Show Business

Interested in joining us in Casco Bay or signing up for another ÖTILLÖ race in North America? Then use the code LOWTIDE15 to save 15% on your race registration for all their remaining 2024 events.

Interested in getting a pair of FORM Smart Swim 1 or Smart Swim 2 goggles? Send us a DM or email and we’ll give you a code for 15% off.

Effortless Swimming with Brenton Ford

It was great to chat with Brenton. We’ve watched so many of his videos and it was great to chat with him about his coaching philosophy, the importance of a strong core, and get his thoughts on what key Swimrun-specific swim sessions could look like.

Learn more at effortlessswimming.com.

Enjoy!
