Today on the podcast is NCAA Champion, US Olympian, and Coach, Robby Andrews!

He recently launched his coaching business called "Miles to Go" where he hopes to help athletes reach their goals no matter where their journey is starting.

Robby has run 1:44.71 (800m), 3:34.78 (1500m), and 3:53.16 (Mile).

Back in HS, Andrews attended Manalapan High School. As a senior in 2009, he set the U.S. high school indoor records for both the 800m, at 1:49.21, and the 1000m, at 2:22.28.

I really loved this one. Robby is one of a kind and brings a lot of great wisdom to the table, on top of being a fun, energetic guy. Don't miss this one!

Throughout the years, some of my favorite episodes have, funny enough, been with kids from the same high school, Valor Christian.

The man who coached these athletes is Coach Greg Coplen. After hearing so many positive things about him, I knew I needed to get him on the podcast and pick his brain.

Coach Coplen coached at Valor Christian in Highlands Ranch, CO, for 10 years and is now starting his 2nd full year at Chaparral High School in Parker, CO.

He's coached five teams in four different years, at two different schools, that finished the season in DyeStat National rankings, four of those finishing in the top 10 in the country. Throughout his tenure, he's coached state champions at nearly every event in both genders.

In his first year at Chaparral High School, he helped coach the five boys' State Champions and oversaw the emergence of the girls' cross-country team, which finished third in the state of Colorado, sixth at Nike Southwest Regionals, and 27th in the country. Before last season, the Chaparral girls had not been ranked in the top 10 in the state in over 15 years.

In today's conversation, Coach Coplen takes me through how to flip around a program in one year, how to instill excellence in your athletes, how to handle setbacks and disappointment, the lessons he's learned from coaching high-level athletes like Cole Sprout & Ashley Jones, the legacy he wants to leave behind in the sport, and much more!

This conversation was absolutely fantastic. I personally have many takeaways, and I hope you'll take the time to listen to it!

80 minutes of obsessing about running, discussing college, how to get the most out of your life, and so much more!

That's today's podcast.

And there's no better human jam on those subjects with than Mr. Obession himself, Zach Pogrob.

Zach has created next-level content over social media over the past few years and has amassed a following of over 1.4 million followers on Instagram alone. He's one of the best writers I've ever read, and his writings have profoundly impacted my life.

Zach has also recently fallen in love with the sport of running and has thrown himself fully into the fire of seeing how far he can go in this sport. In his first Marathon, on next to no training Zach ran a 3:16:30 Marathon. In his second marathon, Zach ran 2:55:14. He's a beast.

This podcast was one of my all-time favorites. It's just two humans who want more out of their lives having one of those late-night talks about everything on their mindown. You won't want to miss this one. It's special.

Back on the podcast is a household name, Shannon Thompson MAPP, NCCP!

Today's conversation particularly centers around how to get the most out of your training and racing through simple mental performance skills that you can put to practice this cross-country season.

We also dedicate a portion to talking about parents and their effects on an athletes athletic/life success. We dive into the courses Shannon has created to help this audience.

If you're not familiar with Shannon, she's the mental performance counselor who works closely with NAU, NAZ Elite, UA Dark Sky Distance, and a plethora of top professional runners. As an athlete and a coach, Shannon has always been fascinated by the psychology of well-being and achievement. Her interest regarding the power of the mind to impact an athlete's performance and overall experience drove Shannon to complete an undergraduate degree in psychology, and then a Masters in Applied Positive Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania.

Through listening to this podcast episode, you'll walk about with practical tools on improving mental performance that you can directly apply today.

Today on the podcast is NAU's Assistant Coach Jarred Cornfield!

Coach Cornfield, with a background in Sports Management and a master's degree in Educational Leadership from NAU, has spent nine years at Northern Arizona University, progressing from a Graduate Assistant Coach to his current role as an Assistant Coach, specializing in distance and mid-distance running, while also playing an active role in recruitment.

His coaching prowess is evident through his instrumental contributions to the Lumberjack teams' multiple victories at the Big Sky Championships and NCAA National Championships. Notably, he helped guide athletes like Luis Grijalva, Drew Bosley, Nico Young, and Abdihamid Nur to impressive feats, including NCAA titles and Olympic participation. Under his guidance, the men's track & field and cross country teams have achieved remarkable success, culminating in championship wins and numerous All-America honors.

Coach Cornfield also recently started coaching his first professional athlete, Elise Cranny, who made her second Olympic Team in June in Eugene, Oregon, in the 5k.

In today's conversation, Coach Cornfield takes me through the scene at the Paris Olympics, coaching Elise Cranny, how to have a successful upcoming XC season, the importance of being more process oriented, and much more!

Today on the podcast is Olympian Kate Grace!

Kate has quite a remarkable career at every level and recently announced her retirement from the track.

In HS, she was a multi-time state-champion while competing for  Marlborough School in Los Angeles.

Attending Yale University, Grace broke four school records, won six Heps championships (one as a member of a relay team), and was a four-time NCAA Division I Track and Field and Cross country All-American.

Kate holds PRs of 1:57.20 (800m), 4:01.33 (1500m), 4:22.93 in the Mile & 8:46 in the 3k.

After the 2024 US Olympic Track & Field Trials where she made the 800m Final, Kate announced her retirement from Track & Field. As she details in this conversation, she's not fully done with the sport and will potentially seek to attack a marathon in the future.

Kate and her husband Patrick have a son named River who was born in March 2023.

In today's conversation, Kate takes me through her last month since "retirement," lessons and reflections from her long, successful career, her ambitions in the marathon, her hope to be a coach one day & lessons learned from her coaches throughout the years, and so much more!

I truly loved this conversation and gained so much from Kate's wisdom.

CONNOR BURNS & SIMEON BIRNBAUM RETURN TO THE PODCAST

You ask, we deliver.

After months of requests to get the villains back on the podcast, we came through.

Connor Burns & Simeon Birnbaum were two of the greatest high school runners of all-time and graduted high school this past spring. Both broke the 4-minute mile barrier, and set countless state records, and in Connor's case a National Record in the 5k by running 13:37. Simeon had one of the greatest seasons ever by a high schooler breaking record after record and turning heads with every race.

Both run for The University of Oregon and will be starting their Sophmore year this upcoming Fall.

Last year, we launched The Call Room with them, which was not only widely successful, but also incredibly fun and entertaining. Anytime they come on a podcast, it's a blast and turns some heads with hilarious takes.

In today's episode, Connor and Simeon recap their freshman year in full, take us through their summer training, running 100 mile weeks, unheard stories, and answer YOUR listener questions! This is a podcast for the books.

The men's team won the Indoor MAC Championship and Baldvin Magnusson placed seventh in the 3000m at the NCAA Indoor Championships.

In today's conversation, we go into Ian's journey as a coach and as a successful athlete himself to get to this point. We dive into his years as a coach and the lessons he's learned along the way!

Justin was a 2x Second-Team All-American (2019 Indoor at 9th place and 2019 Outdoor at 15th) while at UCLA.

Justin is the Bronze Medalist at the 2024 United States Olympic Trials, throwing 3 PRs combined in prelims and finals.

What's most impressive is that he's improved his finish at USA Nationals and Trials at every appearance so far (16th in 2019, 13th in 2021, 8th in 2022, 6th in 2023, and now 3rd in 2024).

Justin is currently a volunteer assistant coach at Kansas State University.

From breaking his back at age 18 and having to take off 18 months due to that to now being in the hunt to make teams, Justin's story is nothing short of inspiring. This guy is great. I absolutely loved this conversation with him and know that it will motivate you all the more to get after your goals!

Today on the podcast is newly minted Olympian James Corrigan!

James has had quite the wild past few months going from 9th at the NCAA Meet to placing third at the US Olympic Trials. Because James didn't have the Olympic standard or enough world ranking points, he had less than a week to chase the Olympic Standard time. James flew out to Penn and got the job done, qualifying for his first Olympic Games in Paris.

James has run 4:01 in the Mile (at altitude), 8:13 in the steeplechase, 13:30 in the 5k, and was an All-American in his first NCAA Cross Country Championships.

James will be a junior this upcoming fall at BYU.

In today's conversation, James takes me through his wild last month, from making the Olympics to getting married and everything in between. We break down his remarkable performance at the US Olympic Trials and document what it took to get to that place.

Today's episode of the podcast is one of the most profound conversations I've ever had.

I have the privilege of speaking with Peter Louis!

Peter is the founder and visionary leader of Braveheart Ministries. Based in Dallas, Braveheart exists to see the image, character and nature of Jesus Christ formed in people.

Peter lives in Dallas with his wife, Kristi, and five children. With a diverse and storied background as a professional athlete, businessman, consultant, pastor and teacher, Peter carries with him a wealth of leadership insights and diverse skill sets. He has written four books to date: Back to the Gospel, Back to Pentecost, Keep the Blood Warm and Now That You’re Born Again.

Peter played Professional-Soccer for FC Dallas and had a very successful career as a soccer player before his current life.

Peter is also a big runner, having run marathons & ultra-marathons. He ran a marathon to celebrate his 40th birthday a few months ago (discussed in the episode).

Peter is extraordinarily gifted at speaking on a plethora of topics, and I pick his brain on so many today. Peter shares his thoughts on pain, addiction, modern-day struggles, why worldly desires will never fufill you, smiling while running, and so much more!

Take the time to be blessed by Peter's wisdom. It blessed me immensely, and I know I will do the same for you. Please DM me with how this one impacts you!

Today on the podcast is NIKE athlete Emily Venters!

Emily has run 8:58 (3k), 15:20 (5k), and 31:48 in the 10k.

She has the 6th fastest 10k in NCAA History, is a 5x All-American, was the 10k National Runner Up in 2023, 3rd in 5k in 2023, and 6th at USAs 2023, and back in 2018, was a member of U20 team USA world team for 5k.

Emily recently opened up on social media about struggling with depression in her time as a professional runner. I think so few pro-runners are good at being open about their struggles, so I was so appreciative of Emily for being so open and vulnerable about sharing this part of her journey.

In today's conversation, Emily takes me through her past year as a professional runner, the ups and downs that have come with it, her journey within the sport, her ambitions for the future, and so much more!

Her athletic background began as a soccer player. She played soccer at the Univ. of Portland and was a 2 x Division I Women's Soccer National Champion.

Lyndsay graduated from Colorado State University with a BS in Health and Exercise Science and a concentration in Sports Medicine. Lyndsay's mission as a physical therapist is to provide optimal patient care with my heart, hands, and continuing growth of knowledge.

In today's conversation, Colleen and Lyndsay take me through their respective journeys and how their paths crossed, how they've collaborated in the past, and how they created "The Female Runner Summit" with each other.

Today on the podcast are two of the most successful PT's in the world, Dr. Colleen Little & Dr. Lyndsay Centrowitz!

Colleen is a physical therapist who has a passion and skillset for working with runners. Currently she is the team physical therapist/strength coach/medical coordinator for the Nike Bowerman Track Club. She's had the pleasure of working with 11 Olympians, 11 World Team members, 2 Olympic Silver Medalists, and multiple national record holders. Prior tojoining BTC, She was the clinic director for a PT and Wellness Clinic at Nike World Headquarters. Her athletic background began as a soccer player. She played soccer at the Univ. of Portland and was a 2 x Division I Women's Soccer National Champion.

Lyndsay graduated from Colorado State University with a BS in Health and Exercise Science and a concentration in Sports Medicine. After multiple personal sports-related injuries and discovering a passion for healing through movement, Lyndsay attended Creighton University to receive her Doctorate of Physical Therapy.

Lyndsay now owns her own practice, StrongHER, in Park City, UT where she specializes in female athletics and care of pregnant and postpartum individuals. Additionally, Lyndsay educates other healthcare providers on the unique considerations to be made when working with the recreational to elite runner with The Pace Academy. Her and her colleagues have the privilege of not only providing physical therapy services to professional track and field athletes, but also share their knowledge and expertise with other providers who want to strengthen their running specific skill set.

Today on the podcast is one of the most loved guests in the history of The Running Effect, Cole Sprout!

Cole runs for Stanford University (Go tree!) and is entering his final year of school there this Fall.

Cole has run 3:56 in the Mile, 13:24 in the 5k, and 27:42 in the 10k. Cole won the 2023 NACACs in the 5k, is a Five-time All-American, placed eighth in the 5,000 at the 2023 U.S. Championships, and 16th in the 10,000.

In high school, Cole became one of the greatest HS runners of all-time in Colorado history. He was the first Colorado high school runner to break 9 minutes for 3,200 in a race run in Colorado. He ran 4:02.42 in the mile in a May, 2020, when a 4:02 was like what a 3:58 is today. He won six Gatorade state athlete of the year honors – three in track and three in cross country. He also won seven state championships – doubling in the 1,600 and 3,200 in 2018 and 2019, in addition to his cross country titles.

In today's conversation, Cole and I go very deep on a plethora of subjects today relating to his running and faith. Cole speaks very openly about his faith as a Christian and we lean into that today and how it affects his running and life.

We also talk about his last year of running and his plans for the upcoming months.

Take the time to be blessed by Cole's wisdom!

Today on the podcast is the youngest guest in the history of The Running Effect Podcast.

His name is Erik Semling. He's in 8th grade and 13 years old from the state of Minnesota. As an 8th grader this past Fall, he placed 6th at his HIGH SCHOOL (yes, you read that right) State Meet.

Erik has run 15:09 in the 5k, which is an unofficial age group world record, and 31:17 in the 10k, which is an official age group world record. Again, this kid is only 13. In 2022 he became the AAU Indoor 3000m National Champion and has only improved since then.

In today's conversation, Erik takes me through his start in the sport, setting world records, an in-depth look at his training, his ambitions in sport, handling hate, and so much more!

I was quite frankly shocked with how articulate Erik was as an 8th grader. This episode was awesome, and I have no doubt will inspire you to chase after your goals all the more!

Today on the podcast is Carter Solomon.

If you're not familiar with Carter, he is an accomplished long-distance runner who has achieved significant success in both cross country and track. He is the 2023 ACC Outdoor Champion in the 10,000 meters and the 2022 ACC Cross Country Champion in the 8K. He has qualified for NCAA championships multiple times in both cross-country and track events. In the 2023 cross country season, he competed in six races, with his best performance being a 22nd-place finish at the NCAA DI Great Lakes Region Championships. During his junior year, he placed seventh in the 5000 meters at the NCAA Championships and set personal records in several events, including a 13:26.11 in the 5000 meters and a 3:57.13 in the mile. As a sophomore, he won the 3000 meters at the Blue & Gold Invite, and as a freshman, he posted notable performances including a PR in the 6K. In high school, Carter was a two-time All-American, four-time all-state selection, and led his team to a state championship, earning accolades such as Mr. Cross Country in Michigan and Michigan Gatorade Runner of the Year.

In today's conversation, Carter takes me through his journey and progression in sport, what it's going to take to ascend to the next level within the NCAA, his years and experience at The University of Notre Dame, his thoughts on the incoming recruiting class, and much more!

I always love these conversations with the top NCAA guys and have no doubt you'll find value from this one.
