Whether we realize it or not, we are surrounded by invasive plants that weren’t originally here. Expert Greg Wall from Helena explains the most common ones, where they came from, how to control and how they could affect a Gamekeepers property. These discussions can get argumentative as not everyone is one the same page about some invasives that actually benefit wildlife. Do you know what to do if you’re bitten by a venomous snake? How would you assist your dog? Hear an unbelievable story of being bitten in the head by a Copperhead! We welcome several helpful guests including Dr. Scott Rush, Associated Professor of Wildlife Ecology and Management at Mississippi State University to discuss snakes behavior and tips to avoid getting bit. Dr. Ned Miller with North Mississippi Medical Center jumps on the phone to share with us some tips to take after getting bit, what to expect when you arrive at the ER, expels a few in-the-field techniques to treating snake bites, and a little insight into what anti-venom is and how much it actually costs! We also hear a scary story from Dudley’s cousin, Tyler Hardy who was bitten in the head while hunting. This one could save a life. Pay attention.

In late January, the duck hunting community was shocked when the news broke out of Reelfoot Lake that two duck hunters had been killed, and a manhunt for the alleged killer was underway. Rumors ran rampant, especially when the body of the suspect was recovered. Now that the dust has settled, we've learned the truth is different than what rumors led most hunters to believe. But the murders still leave many unanswered questions. The discussion turns to his thought process on setting up on a gobbler and many other turkey hunting tips you don’t want to miss. “You might can call up a gobbler but you need to be set up right to get him,” George thoroughly explains.  We also discuss using barriers to your advantage, taking the high ground from him, giving him “the stage” and how sometimes silence can be the best call.  While every situation is different, this discussion is definitely one that could give you an edge in the turkey woods. On episode 25 of The Gamekeeper Podcast, Ohio hunter Jason Kline tells a great story of a truly giant whitetail he was chasing for almost three years. The deer had become a local legend since he was often visible feeding in a bean field along a main highway. After a close call with him in the woods, the deer suddenly disappeared in October and Jason and others feared the worst had probably happened. After the season ended, Jason discovered the fate of this giant whitetail. With a Boone and Crockett score of 241, this is one shed hunt Jason will never forget. On this episode of the GameKeeper Podcast, we pick apart two unverified southern long tail cat sightings in Alabama and dive into the age old disagreement: Do long tail cats really live in the southeast US and are the sightings legit? First we test two stories between Lannie and CJ Davis, who were together when their mystery cat appeared. We get both stories separately to see if anything sounds fishy. Later we interrogate Mossy Oak’s Rob Moore and his story of an Alabama long tail cat he encountered after killing a deer. Rob reluctantly breaks his silence and it’s a great story.
