There is a principle in God’s Word that says, “Give, and it will be given to you” (Luke 6:38). “Whatever a man sows, that he will also reap” (Galatians 6:7). When you do something for someone else—take them to a doctor’s appointment, pick them up when their car is broken down, call them, cheer them up, do something that no one else can do for them—God’s going to do special things for you. When we go out and make someone else’s day, we’re saying, “God, thank You for making my day” because when you make someone else’s day, God will make your day. When God sees you blessing others, He blesses you, and there are no blessings to compare with the blessings of Almighty God. So make someone’s day, knowing that God is going to make your day.

All through the Gospels we read that wherever Jesus went He was moved with compassion for people. When He saw the multitudes, He had this deep inward moving of love to heal the sick and feed them miraculously. He had compassion on the widow who was weeping for her dead son and raised him from the dead (Luke 7:14). Two blind men heard that Jesus was passing by and cried out, “Have mercy on us, O Lord, Son of David!” (Matthew 20:30), and Jesus stopped in His tracks, called them, and looked them right in their faces. They couldn’t see Him, but I bet they could feel His compassion as He touched their eyes and healed them.

We recently celebrated the resurrection of Jesus in an Easter service, and now I want to encourage you to not just celebrate His resurrection but live the resurrection life He came to give us. How do we live this resurrection life? We have to take hold of everything Jesus has given us through His death and resurrection. He took your sin and shame, everything that would ever try to come on you, and He paid your debt in full. “He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west” (Psalm 103:12). We don’t have to walk in guilt and condemnation. We are free to go and live the resurrection life.

When the Israelites were going to possess the Promised Land, God said, “Little by little I will drive your enemies out before you, until you have increased enough to take possession of the land” (Exodus 23:30). God started small, slowly decreasing the enemies because He wanted His people to go big. He wanted them to grow their own capacity to be able to handle what He was going to give them in the future. He didn’t want the land to overtake them. He wanted them to overtake the land. God was increasing them incrementally throughout their journey. God wants to increase us, but oftentimes we overlook the small things because we want to go big. Remember, a majestic oak tree starts with a small seed.

When I looked up the synonyms of “a peacemaker,” it states “a diplomat, an arbitrator, a mediator, a calmer, a soother, a go-between.” It reads like the characteristics of Jesus, doesn’t it? I was reminded that when God brought the Israelites out from their oppressive captivity in Babylon that He promised they would “go out in joy and be led forth in peace” (Isaiah 55:12). He was showing us that if we’re going to come out of dark places like she was in, if we’re going to stand under the trials of life, we have to come out with joy and walk in peace. We have to use joy to deliver us from anxious thoughts, defeat and discouragement. Joy is the key, and it’s inside us.

This is what God spoke through the prophet Isaiah: “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
