On the night of August 22nd, 2004, in an extremely affluent neighborhood in Florida, millionaire lawyer John Sutton dragged himself across the floor of his bedroom. He couldn't see anything, and his head was in agonizing pain, but somehow, someway he still managed to pull himself up to his feet, and then he staggered his way through the house and made it out the front door to safety. However, there was still someone else in the house behind him. Late one night in the spring of 1937, a young woman stumbled into her apartment building, drunk after a long night of partying with friends. She made her way up the steps, and reached her apartment door. And after she opened it up, she stepped inside, and her little dog ran up to her and she gave it a little pat, and then she walked toward her bedroom. But the moment she stepped foot into that pitch black room, something felt off. It was too quiet. But before she could figure out what was going on, something heavy came flying out of the darkness and hit her on the face. For a moment, the woman just stood there stunned. Then a second later, hands emerged from the darkness.

One summer day in 1978, a man came home from work to his house in a nice neighborhood in Illinois. He went inside the front door and called out to his wife, but she didn't call back. The man looked around the house and was annoyed that it was so dirty. His wife had said she was going to spend the day cleaning, and it seemed like she had not. But after searching the house, he had not found his wife yet, and so he stared to wonder if she was okay. The only place left to check for her was in the basement, so he opened the door and began walking down the stairs. When he got down there, he would come face-to-face with a nightmare.

At around 9:00 PM on September 13th, 2006, a college student walked towards her friend’s apartment in the small town of Valley City, North Dakota. She walked up the steps and was about to knock on her friend's door, when she was hit with this really powerful chemical smell. She looked around wondering where the smell was coming from, and that's when she realized it was coming from her friend's apartment. More confused than worried, the friend knocked on the door, but there was no answer. So she reached down and tried the handle, and it was unlocked, so she opened the door. And when she looked inside, she began to scream.

In the winter of 2001, inside of a Southern California police department, a fax machine in the corner of the room suddenly came to life. A moment later, a few pieces of paper fell into the tray, and an officer walked over and began reading them. As he did, his eyes went wide. The fax was a gold mine of evidence for an ongoing murder investigation that had begun to stall, so this fax was a major breakthrough. But as officers rushed over to see the fax for themselves, they all started to feel like something was off about the fax – it just seemed too good to be true. But regardless, the police followed up on the contents of the fax, and sure enough, it led them to their killer. However, let's just say the killer was not who anyone thought it would be.

In the early morning hours of February 9, 2014, 17-year-old Lexi Sachs was asleep in her bed, inside of her parents' mansion in San Juan Capistrano, California – one of the nicest and most affluent neighborhoods in the country. And as she lay there, suddenly there was a loud bang on her door that woke her up. Instinctively, Lexi just pulled the covers up over her head like she did when she was a little kid and was scared. As she lay there, she held her breath, hoping the sound she just heard was in her dream, and not in real life. But then, she heard her little brother screaming in the hallway. At that point, Lexi threw off the covers and ran out of her room. And what she found at the end of the hallway would not only turn her life upside down, but it would also leave one of the wealthiest communities in Southern California in complete shock.

At around 9 a.m. on March 6, 1963, a woman living in a nice neighborhood in Minnesota heard her doorbell ring. So, she got up from her seat at the kitchen and began walking toward the door. But as she got closer to the door, the doorbell rang again. Ruth was annoyed – thinking it was probably some salesman being really pushy – but when she opened the door, she could tell this was no salesman, this was an emergency. One night, four young brothers were sleeping in their bedroom in their little house in Tennessee, when they started to hear what sounded like a rat gnawing on one of their bedposts. So, the two oldest brothers climbed out of their bed to go find this rat, but the second their feet touched the wooden floor, the gnawing sound stopped. The boys checked the room, they checked the bedposts, there was no sign of any rat. And so eventually, the two oldest brothers just kind of shrugged it off and got back in bed. But when they closed their eyes again, the gnawing sound filled the room again. Except this time, it was louder and more frantic. Little did they know, these sounds were just the beginning of a multi-yearlong nightmare that they and the rest of their family would have to endure. Their terrifying story is known as “The Bell Witch Haunting,” and it is considered to be one of the most frightening documented hauntings of all time. And today, I’m going to share their story with you.

And when he got into his room, he was startled to see his 4-year-old little brother just standing there, motionless. Then, before the 11 year old could even ask what was going on, the 4-year-old just raised his arm and pointed to the bedroom door that led out to the hallway, and he said, “Mommy has a band-aid on her face.” A day later, police would discover the meaning of the little boy’s bizarre statement, and they would step into a crime scene that felt like it was straight out of a horror movie.

Just after 1:30 AM on May 12th, 1994, a young girl ran from her home in rural Maine out into the rainy night. Barefoot and terrified, the girl went door-to-door screaming for help, but no one heard her. Finally, after running nearly 2 miles, she arrived in her little downtown and flagged down a restaurant owner. The owner would help her call 911, and within minutes the police would arrive at the young girls home. And what they would discover was one of the most horrific crimes ever committed in that small town, not only because of its sheer brutality, but also because of who committed it and why. We tried to make this story make sense, but sometimes the truth is just stranger than fiction.

At around 2 a.m. on May 12th, 2007, a 20-year-old woman named Maggie woke up totally confused in her bedroom. As she sat there looking around her dark room trying to get her bearings, she suddenly became aware of high pitched screaming coming from the room next door – her brother's room. Then she heard loud crashing and banging sounds, like the sound of people wrestling each other. Maggie was terrified, but she climbed out of her bed and walked over to her closed door. And then after taking a deep breath, she opened it up and stepped into the hallway. Moments later, local police would arrive at Maggie's house, and at first when they searched the home, it was still and quiet. But when they went upstairs, they discovered something so horrible, that trying to use words to describe it doesn't really do it justice. And so, fair warning, this case is not for the faint of heart.

In 1967, a man was digging for gold in a forest in Canada, when behind him heard this sudden commotion. It sounded like geese getting really startled and flying off in different directions. On the morning of June 14, 1929, two teenage boys walked through an open field outside of Columbus, Ohio. Suddenly, the boys stopped, because up ahead they saw a swarm of flies hovering over the tall grass. They couldn't see what was below the swarm, so the boys slowly walked a bit closer to get a better look. When they finally could see what was on the ground, both boy instantly began screaming for help. When the police arrived, they were horrified by what they saw, but it seemed like a pretty straightforward crime of passion. However, their investigation would take a totally bizarre turn that would involve rare recreational drugs, hidden bank accounts, secret lovers, secret apartments, and an Olympic gold medalist.

On April 18th, 1992, a person in California turned their shower on and waited until the steam was rising up out of the stall before they stepped inside. Once under the water, this person grabbed a can of shaving cream and applied it to their entire body, and slowly, they began shaving off every hair on their body, except for the hair on their head. After they were done, they hopped out of the shower, toweled off, got dressed, and then began the next phase of their prep – packing their backpack with things like latex gloves and plastic sheets. After they were done, they climbed into bed and set their alarm for very early the next morning. They were nervous about how the next day was going to go, but they were confident they were ready. 24 hours later, what this hairless person did was all over the news...

At 4am on a winter day in 1993, a 50-year-old man named Joe walked down a dark hallway inside of his farmhouse in Kentucky. As he moved, he did his best to be as quiet as possible, so as not to wake up his wife or son who were sleeping nearby. But when Joe got about halfway down the hall, he happened to look into the family room, and he thought he saw something moving inside. He strained his eyes to see who it was, thinking maybe it was his wife or son, but he just couldn't tell. But as Joe stared into the darkness, he heard the sound of floorboards creaking inside the family room. And then before Joe could do anything, the thing he had seen moving was now rushing straight towards him. Hours later, Kentucky State Police would arrive at Joe's house, and what they would discover there was a monstrous crime that literally had never been committed before in this part of Kentucky.

Just before 3:00 AM on September 23, 2003, a police officer in a little town in Alaska was driving down an old abandoned mining road when he happened to look over to the side of the road, and he saw something shiny inside of a big gravel pit. The officer pulled over and walked over to the pit and looked down inside of it. And there at the bottom was something that he and the rest of his colleagues had been looking for for weeks. But as soon as he began scrambling down into the pit to take a closer look at this thing he found, a gun shot rang out. Then another, and another. And before long, the police officer was running for his life, screaming into his radio for backup.

In 2010, a very successful Nashville, Tennessee music producer turned her car into her driveway and pulled into her garage. After turning her car off, she was about to click her garage door remote again – to shut the garage door – when she turned and looked out her car’s back window, and she saw something very strange sitting there on her driveway. Seconds later, Veronica would be scrambling to get out of her car, and inside of her house – as fast as she possibly could. Initially, this story will seem fairly cookie cutter for a true crime story, however, it is not. There is a very unique plot twist at the end, so stick around to make sure you hear it.

In 1999, a father arrived at a train station to pick up his teenage daughter from school. But when the train she was supposed to be on arrived at the station, she wasn't on it. And so, the father just sat in the parking lot assuming his daughter must be late, and she'd be on the next train. But as more and more trains came into the station, none of them were carrying his daughter. And so eventually, this father just left the parking lot and headed back home, believing his daughter must have found another way home. Unfortunately, though, that was not the case. It would turn out, his daughter had made a fateful decision that day that would soon turn her and her family's lives into a nightmare.

On the night of November 8th 2010, a 24-year-old woman named Jennifer walked downstairs into the living room of her parents' house to say goodnight to her mother. But before she walked over to the couch where her mother was to give her a hug, Jennifer noticed something moving outside on the dark street. Jennifer stopped where she was and looked out the window, but she couldn't see anything unusual. So she walked over to the front door and looked out the little window on it, and after staring out into the street for a few moments, she decided she must not have seen anything at all. So she walked back over to her mother, who had noticed her looking outside and had a look of concern on her face, and Jennifer just said, "Oh, I thought I saw something moving out there, but it was nothing." Then the 2 women said goodnight, and Jennifer headed up stairs and went to sleep. It would turn out, there actually was something moving around outside the house. And about 30 minutes after Jennifer had gone back upstairs, the thing she saw made its way across the street, up their stairs, and into their house... right up to Jennifer's room.

Early in the morning of October 3rd, 1994, a woman, living in Eugene, Oregon, woke up in her first floor bedroom to the sound of screaming coming from somewhere on the other side of her house. She thought the noise must be coming from her TV set in the living room, but as she stepped into the hallway, she realized this was not the case. The screaming was coming from an actual person, who sounded like they might be in her garage. So she ran down the hall, across the living room and over to the door that led into the garage, and she flung it open. Seconds later, this woman would be living a nightmare.

Just after midnight on July 19, 2010, former professional basketball player, Lorenzen Wright, stepped out of a car and walked down a dirt path into the woods outside of Memphis, Tennessee. Then suddenly, Lorenzen heard a sound coming from the darkness, and he saw something rushing towards him. In a panic, Lorenzen turned off the path, put his head down, and started running as fast as he could into the dark woods. But eventually, the thing that was chasing him caught up to him. It would take authorities years to figure out what happened in the woods that night. But once the mystery was solved, it would shock the city of Memphis, as well as the millions of fans who watch professional basketball.

In 1982, a young woman walked up a flight of stairs to her friend’s apartment, and knocked on the door. As she did, she noticed the little window on the door was broken. Worried something was wrong with her friend, the woman knocked again, this time a little louder, while also peering through the broken window to see if she could see anything. There was nothing really to see, but she could hear music playing inside. So after another minute went by and still her friend had not come to the door, the woman tried the door handle and found it was open. With her heart racing, the woman opened her friend’s door and stepped inside. A few seconds later, she would see something so horrible, it would send her running back outside to safety.

In late December of 2003, a 32-year-old man named Russel drove along scenic back roads on an island off the coast of Washington State, until he arrived at his destination, a house tucked way back in the woods. After driving down the property’s long driveway, Russel pulled into a parking spot and came to a stop. After turning off his car’s engine, Russel went to unbuckle himself, when he stopped. Because right in front of him, in the tree line, he saw a figure moving in the shadows. As Russel leaned forward and strained his eyes to see who it was, the figure suddenly emerged and began walking quickly toward Russel's car. At first Russel thought he knew who this person was, but as they got closer, he knew that he didn't. But before Russel could do anything about the situation he was in, the stranger from the forest had arrived right outside of Russel’s car door and had begun staring down at Russel through the glass. As they did this, Russel turned to look at them… and what he saw was so shocking he just froze in terror.

On June 8, 1989, FBI informant Susan Daniels Smith stood outside on the second floor of a motel in Pikeville, Kentucky, smoking a cigarette and staring down at the parking lot. Then suddenly, Susan saw a car pull up, and the driver stepped outside. Susan’s pulse quickened, she flicked her cigarette to the ground, and she ran downstairs to meet the driver. And soon after, Susan and the driver got into the car together, and sped off into the night down a dark mountain road. But when Susan didn’t return for days, investigators went searching for her. And the case that followed would shock even the most experienced detectives, and make FBI history.

On December 13, 2001, 35-year-old Tracey Roberts was running a bath upstairs in her house in the rural town of Early, Iowa. But then, Tracey heard the front door open and footsteps downstairs. And when she walked into the hall to see what was happening, she saw two men rushing upstairs towards her. So in a panic, Tracey ran to her bedroom, but one of the men grabbed her from behind and started strangling her. But Tracey fought him off, grabbed a gun she kept in her room, and fired at her attackers in the dark. One of the men would die, but the other would get away, and the search for that second attacker would lead police into a web of lies and deception that would take almost ten years to unravel.

On the night of January 12, 2003, 85-year-old millionaire Anna Mae Branson heard a knock at the door of her home in Madisonville, Kentucky – a place residents had nicknamed “The Best Town on Earth.” So, Anna Mae opened the door, and smiled at her visitor.
