Semen Analysis and Male Fertility

41 min
View

Dr. Natalie Crawford discusses semen analysis and male fertility—what it is, who should get an analysis done, and what factors doctors look for in sperm analyses. There aren't many choices for people with sperm who have fertility issues, but it’s important to educate yourself to make the choice that is right for you.

Natalie also discusses a Turkish study that indicates how blue light exposure from phones and tablets in childhood can increase production of the reproductive hormones, up the risk of early onset puberty, and even disrupt future fertility.

Finally, Natalie answers your social media questions during her segment FFS—For Fertility’s Sake. Can polyps in the uterus affect fertility? How soon should we try to conceive after a chemical pregnancy? Are at-home sperm analysis kits accurate?

Don't forget to ask your questions on Instagram for next week’s For Fertility’s Sake segment when you see the question box on Natalie’s page @nataliecrawfordmd. You can also ask a question by calling in and leaving a voicemail. Call 657–229–3672 and ask your fertility question today.

Understanding Your Hormones

41 min

Dr. Natalie Crawford explains your hormones—what they do, what it really means when your hormones are “unbalanced”, and how to get to homeostasis. Your hormones control your entire body and are influenced entirely by the world around you, so it’s important to understand how they work and how to get to homeostasis. She also discusses a recent article from The Cut that examines discrepancies in health benefits across organizations and the dark side of Amazon's fertility benefits.

51 min

Dr. Natalie Crawford discusses Chrissy Teigen and her vulnerability in sharing her fertility journey. Later, she explains the birth control pill and post-birth control syndrome—what it is and why people say it exists. Finally, Natalie answers your social media questions during her segment FFS—For Fertility’s Sake. This time, all about the pill! I was told the pill causes vitamin deficiencies, and I would need to purchase a post-birth control syndrome cleanse—is that true? What are the side effects and risks of taking the pill? Living in a Post-Roe World

40 min

Our fertility in the news segment could not be timelier than it is now, as the Supreme Court has overturned Roe v. Wade. What does it mean to be living in a post-Roe era? This week Dr. Natalie Crawford explains what this could mean if you’re pregnant, trying to be pregnant, are experiencing a miscarriage, experiencing pregnancy complications, wanting to undergo ART, and more. She highlights concerns regarding access to contraception, and shares how her life and career have personally benefited from access to contraception. Roe protected far more than just abortions, and it’s time for everyone to get political; medical decisions should be made exclusively between a doctor and their patient. Lastly, Natalie responds to questions in her FFS segment, including what questions you should ask a fertility doctor when getting a 2nd opinion, and which supplements you should take for egg quality.

Join host Dr. Natalie Crawford as she talks about reproductive rights and what my happen to IVF is abortion laws become state driven. Why are abortion and IVF linked? A draft opinion from the Supreme Court indicated that abortion rights will likely be overturned. If this occurs, many states have trigger laws in place which will immediately limit abortion access. However, what many people don’t understand is that some states also have language defining life at conception or fertilization - known as “personhood bills” and these personhood bills would place limitations on access to reproductive technology, such as IVF to conceive. Putting your thoughts on abortion aside, listen to what strict abortion bills may do for all reproductive rights, including for those with infertility.

123: COVID, The VAX, and Your Period

20 min
View

Join host Dr. Natalie Crawford as she talks about the latest research on both the COVID Vaccine and a COVID infection on your period. Your period is a reflection of your reproductive health, and intense immune responses or infections can certainly be stressful to the body and alter our normal hormone function. Current DATA: 19% of people after a COVID infection have a cycle change in length. People who received the vaccine had on average a cycle length of 1 day longer than prior to vaccination. If you received both vaccines in one cycle, 10.6% of people had a clinically significant cycle change of 8 days or more as compared to the baseline rate of 4.3% in the unvaccinated. In those receiving the vaccine, your period returned to normal after 1-2 cycles. TLDR - your chance of having a period change is more from a COVID infection vs vaccination, and if you have period changes for more than 1-2 cycles after a vaccine please see your doctor to investigate other etiologies of amenorrhea.
