A television reporter became incredibly sick in 2015. For years she struggled to understand what was causing her symptoms. Finally, doctors diagnosed Myriam Masihy with Sjogren's syndrome, but her troubles were far from over.

The medication she began taking caused her to gain weight and lose her hair, two things that can spell the end of a career in TV, even for a multiple Emmy Award winner. Myriam thought that there had to be a better way.

Desperate and in one of the lowest points of her life, Myriam turned to a vegan diet and was stunned by the results! Her symptoms would soon disappear, and she regained her health.

She joins "The Weight Loss Champion" Chuck Carroll to share her incredible story.

Myriam was so inspired by her recovery that she produced a documentary about health and nutrition for the Hispanic community, Comida Como Cura. Since then she's heard from countless viewers who have improved their own health!

True story. Before she had millions of followers, Carleigh Bodrug struggled with her health. Her digestive issues had grown troublesome that she was taking prescription laxatives for her entire childhood.

The problems then began multiplying as the years rolled by. By the time Carleigh was in her early 20's she was chronically fatigued and wore her poor health on her sleeve as her skin issues were now on display for the world to see.

She wasn't the only member of her family facing challenges. Doctors had previously diagnosed her father with stage 2 colon cancer. He survived, but Carleigh remember being stunned in 2015 when red and processed meat were classified as carcinogenic. It was in her kitchen.

The idea of taking meat off the menu and opting for a plant-based diet is gaining steam in the National Football League. It was only a few years ago that numerous players on the Tennessee Titans roster explored the idea. Now, there are members of the Philadelphia Eagles who have become "veg curious" and one player who is eating fully plant-based.

Sports dietitian and performance chef Brittany Dunn is tasked with fueling their bodies and minds with proper nutrition so they can excel on the field. Clearly, she's good at her job. The team secured a coveted spot in the playoffs this past season.

She joins "The Weight Loss Champion" Chuck Carroll to talk about working with player to optimize their nutritional needs and how veg curiosity is expanding beyond the locker room. Eagles staff members are also warming to the idea.

Chuck also has details on other players around the league who have adopted a plant-based diet, including members of the Chicago Bears and New England Patriots.

Why is cheese so ultra-addictive that it is called "dairy crack"?!

Cheese addiction expert Dr. Neal Barnard explains the opioid-like compounds found in cheese that cause intense cravings that make people eat it day after day, 365 days a year.

He joins "The Weight Loss Champion" Chuck Carroll on The Exam Room Live with tips for breaking the addiction and answer other health questions sent in by viewers to the Doctor's Mailbag.

- Are dairy-free cheeses addictive?

- Do all fats raise cholesterol?

- Is extra-virgin olive oil healthier than regular olive oil?

- Is almond milk healthier than soy milk?

- Plus, many others.

Also, Chuck has details on a study showing that our earliest ancestors were not major meat eaters. The findings shatter the myth that human evolution, including brain development, was kicked into high gear as a result of meat being added to the diet many thousands of years ago.

Clear up false food facts on the season finale of The Exam Room!

There is a dizzying amount of misinformation spread about plant-based diets on a daily basis. You need meat to survive. There is no way that you will get enough nutrients. Dairy is required in order to have strong bones. You won't live as long if you just eat plants.

When you first consider going vegan it can be nearly impossible to know what to believe and who to trust. However, the confusion ends today because the truth stops here.

Dr. Matthew Nagra joins "The Weight Loss Champion" Chuck Carroll to talk about five of the biggest "false facts" regarding what happens to your health by taking meat and dairy off the menu. Dr. Nagra is quickly becoming one of the most trusted nutrition advocates in his home country of Canada and worldwide thanks to a strong internet following.

He presents compelling and scientifically-backed arguments on the following claims:

- You can't get all the nutrients you need by eating a plant-based diet.

- Vegans are more likely to have brittle and broken bones.

- Plant sources of protein are inferior to animal proteins.

- It is hard to get enough iron without eating meat.

- Soy is unhealthy and causes a man's chest to become unsightly.

To that last point, wait until you hear the unexpected food that Dr. Nagra says is one of the biggest reasons men grow breast tissue.

First, Kristie Sullivan, MPH, joins us we take a look back at how we were able to save the lives of thousands of animals over the last year—including ending deadly live animal labs for emergency medicine training at Vanderbilt University and paramedic training at the University of Washington. We also shut down lethal dog labs for veterinary training at Tuskegee University and Auburn University. In fact, the Physicians Committee is the only national group working to end "terminal" surgery labs in veterinary schools. That is why we need your support to continue our lifesaving work for both animals and humans. All donations will be matched up to $200,000 through Dec. 31.

While Dr. Asha Subramanian was helping her patients get well, she was quietly suffering through her own health struggles. She battled endometriosis from an early age, and the debilitating pain only grew worse with time. As a young doctor, the disease had grown so bad that she was told if she didn't have children in the near future she would risk never being able to get pregnant.

The issues would continue for years as traditional therapies only provided scant relief. But she discovered that she could greatly improve her condition through food and began combining a plant-based diet with modern medicine. Finally, she found relief and was thrilled to become a proud parent of a healthy daughter.

Dr. Subramanian opens up about her struggle for the first time in hopes of helping others facing the same challenges. She shares her secrets for defeating endometriosis with diet!

Chuck also revisits a conversation with Dr. Neal Barnard in an Exam Room Rewind where Dr. Barnard delves into the story of an endometriosis patient who was in the middle of a hysterectomy when doctors declared she had been miraculously cured. Was it an actual miracle or was it the change she made to her diet that caused the disease to vanish? Dr. Barnard also details how a diet that is heavy on meat and dairy, but light on fruits and vegetables, can cause hormonal issues and fuel endometriosis.

An inside look at They're Trying to Kill Us from the creators of the groundbreaking documentary.

John Lewis and Keegan Kuhn join "The Weight Loss Champion" Chuck Carroll to discuss the making of the film and the systemic issues that are driving health inequality in the United States.

Why are people of color more likely to die from heart disease, diabetes, and cancer if genetics aren't the reason? Through interviews with celebrities in hip-hop, medicine, sports, entertainment, and politics, John and Keegan discovered the answer. It is perhaps the most deadly threat to society that mainstream media doesn't want to talk about.

PCRM will receive 50% of proceeds from the film through Nov. 17, 2021.

Here's a scary fact. Only 1 out of every 1,000 meals served in restaurants qualifies as having "ideal" nutrition. Even scarier? Portion sizes at fast-food restaurants are three times larger than they were in 1950!

Could it be that our obsession with eating out is actually making us sick and die younger? It may sound extreme, but given all of the fat, salt, sugar, and sodium being served, it is fair to wonder whether what you order is taking years off of your life.

Dr. Vanita Rahman and Matthew Rees, editor of the Food and Health Facts newsletter and senior fellow at the Dartmouth Tuck School of Business, have the facts to back up that argument. They make the case that restaurants are playing an enormous role in the obesity epidemic when they join "The Weight Loss Champion" Chuck Carroll. From an abundance of calories to a lack of fiber, they have the true effect of restaurant food covered from all angles!

Plus, Chuck is joined by restaurateur Gregg Rozeboom, who is bucking the trend of enormous burgers and buckets of fries in favor of healthier options. Gregg is the founder of the plant-based oil-free restaurant chain Fruitive. He shares his philosophy that delicious food does not have to be detrimental to your health. Fruitive is proof that when it comes to healthy food, if you serve it, they will come.

Cravings can be so frustrating! Anyone who has ever tried to stop eating chocolate, chips, cheese, or junk food will tell you that these foods are almost impossible to give up!

Dr. Mickey Witte, a neuroscientist specializing in food addiction, joins "The Weight Loss Champion" Chuck Carroll to explain the war between your brain and your belly. She details how the hedonic pleasure centers of your brain react the same way to high-fat food as to drugs or even sex.

The brain likes those foods, loves them, and wants more of them! And fast-food restaurants and major food companies know this. Their business model is built entirely on calculating the perfect blend of fat, salt, and sugar in all of their recipes to get you hooked. Which is why losing weight can be so hard!
