We sat down with McKenzie Siroky, the now 2x defending Michigan state champion in the 100 breast. Siroky just made headlines last week by taking down the Michigan state record in the 100 breast at 1:00.48, previously held by NCAA All-American Miranda Tucker. McKenzie explains why she's committed to playing DI hockey over swimming in college and what her daily life looks like during high school swim season (when she is still playing hockey).

We sat down with Grace Ariola, the NCAA All-American and Big-12 champion from Texas who has been out of the pool for the last 2+ years and recently announced a medical retirement due to chronic fatigue syndrome. Ariola goes into detail on what her last 2.5 years looked like after getting a viral illness and never fully recovering, including how her mental health was affected just as much as her physical health. Grace offers a lot of perspective on not only what this dark place looked like for her, but what tools she used to work her way back to a place where she felt like herself again.

Australian Olympian and FINA World Champion, Elli Overton, is the head of marketing and sales at SwimTopia, a tech company that is the leader in team management software in the massive summer league industry.  In other words, she's an adult, with her past three Olympic experiences in her rear view mirror.  However, there's something about time that brings things into focus. For Elli it was managing the Australian media, which can brutal on their swimmers.  Elli watched the Olympics in Tokyo with a discerning eye. Well aware of the sacrifices Olympians make, she was sensitivity to the pressures of these Games in the backwash of the COVID pandemic. Tough questions, expectations about performances, and disappointing outcomes took a harder edge when reported by the media.

Olympic Champion and Team Speedo Athlete, Cody Miller, drops in on the SwimSwam podcast revealing his hopes and dreams for his juggernaut YouTube series Cody Miller Adventures.

Cody has redefined the language of swimming media, and he's redefined what it means to be a pro swimmer.  While Cody owns Olympic gold, his YouTube series deserves a gold medal for his mastery of film and his personal connection to his fans. Cody's transparent and vulnerable--in the most courageous ways.  That combination has netted him the biggest swim-audience among YouTubers.

Cody gets raw and real, providing context on his U.S. Olympic Trials experience and what's in-store for him as a pro swimmer. Cody unpacks International Swimming League politics in a way that only an active pro with “insider knowledge” can. Lastly he gets personal again sharing his MAKE WAVES moment, and he details his go-to Speedo gear.

While competing on day 2 of the final FINA World Cup stop in Kazan, multi-Olympic medalist Chalmers blasted a time of 44.84 to not only stand atop the podium here but also stand atop the list of fastest men ever in the event.

His time overtakes the previous storied World Record of 44.94, a time Frenchman Amaury Leveaux put on the books over a decade ago in 2008. Since then, many have come close, including Russia’s Vlad Morozov who hit 44.95 in 2018 but the record stood tall…until tonight.

After earning a spot in the play-offs, Iron's head coach Luka Gabrilo and skins champion Thom de Boer sat down to field questions about the match. de Boer delved into his approach to the freestyle skins race, which he has now won on 3 out of 3 occasions this season, even speaking to his training and how he does a lot of lactate swims in normal training.

Coach Luka explains that their men's B 400 free relay, which went slower than the DC Trident-winning women's A 400 free relay, was a necessary piece of their overall match success. Since Iron was short on sprinters, they chose to put non-freestyle specialists in the relay in order to save swimmers like Luiz Altamir Melo who could score significant points in the 400 free.

Flash forward to today. DC is leading Iron for 1st by 50 points. That is not a typo. Braden and Barry both give professional insight and numbers into why this is and the other teams' chances of making the play-offs moving into day 2.

We sat down with Team Iron's Captain, Ranomi Kromowidjojo, and General Manager, Dorina Szekeres, after a hard-fought battle in Match #10. Each give their perspective on how Team Iron has moved through the regular season and their expectations for what to expect in the play-in match on Wednesday. Kromo also reveals that to her surprise, getting through 3-rounds of butterfly skins was actually easier than 3 rounds of freestyle.

For the first time in the history of the ISL, jackpot points decided the winner of Match 8, favoring Energy Standard over the London Roar. If the jackpot points are removed then the London Roar would have actually beaten Energy Standard by the narrow margin of 11.5 points. Neither team received enough penalty deductions to sway the outcome, and their checkpoint points nearly even out.

Until Match 8, jackpot points had only affected the outcome of Match MVPs, but now their value to overall team standings is on display. A point brought up by Barry is that every time 4 or more swimmers get jackpotted, the winner of the race is now up 19 points, more than 2 individual wins. These point swings could affect how a team builds its roster, preferring big stars to a team with depth.

Toronto’s Razzetti and Max Litchfield gave the Titans one more point surge with a combined 27-point pick-up thanks to their check-point bonus points. The Condors were only able to score five points in the event. This put Toronto into the lead by 20 points. Despite matching Cali’s event wins, the skins ultimately decided Cali as match seven winner.

The Cali Condors have done it again with their third match win of the season, but it didn’t go down without a good fight. The Titans entered day two of match seven with the narrow lead over the Condors. Throughout the match, Toronto lost their lead to Cali but re-gained it, twice, including right before the skins events where the Condors soared over the Titans to clinch the match win. Meanwhile, Iron was able to find extra leverage over the NY Breakers to increase their chances of qualifying top-6 into the semi-finals.

The London Roar swam well on day 1 of Match 6 and led the Cali Condors by 13.5 points going into the second day of racing. The return of stars including Emma McKeon and Kyle Chalmers gave the Roar a boost in events that the Cali Condors might otherwise be favorited in, namely sprint free and fly. Chalmers, however, was relay-only for London today, but still contributed a big 45+ relay anchor to lead a 1-2 finish for the Roar. London ultimately went on to win the match, beating the favorite Cali Condors.
