en us
A running podcast from Believe in the Run, The Drop is brought to you by hosts Thomas Neuberger, Robbe Reddinger, and Meaghan Murray. But this isn't your typical running podcast– we'll talk about running (of course), but also discuss a wide range of topics, from pop culture to pigeons (not real) to picking up trash here in Baltimore. We also interview elite athletes, industry insiders, musicians, coaches, and more. Follow along as we also discuss our own running highs and lows, as well as our favorite shoes and gear.

If you want to hear about animal attacks, skydiving, and basejumping, boy, do we have a podcast for you. Steff Gardner is the marketing manager for Salomon North America, but she's also a seasoned trail runner, skydiver, basejumper, and a whole bunch of other things. This, despite growing up in the great indoors. We have a really fun conversation about all those things, and also about Salomon trail running and the "all are welcome" Golden Trail Series (which we'll be at in June!).

Well, it was magic down in Orlando. Over the course of three days, we packed it in. From shake out runs to podcasts to random encounters with many of you on the streets, we had an absolute blast. Of course, it was all capped off with a race to remember on Saturday morning, where we finally got to see who will be representing the United States in Paris this summer. Thanks to Hoka and Citius Mag for partnering with us throughout the week, Justin Hall (@justin_yall) and Chase Fleming (@chaseflemingphoto) for capturing photos, and thanks to all of you for coming out and supporting us and the running community. Now let's to go France.

We're working on a Hoka ska band and are stuck between SKAZ Elite, The Mighty Mighty Cliftones, Reel Big Bondis, or Hoka Mach Sax. You'll get it after you watch the interview. Live from the Hoka Fly Lab at the Olympic Marathon Trials in Orlando, Robbe and Meaghan chat with the Hoka team about how they got here and where things are going, specifically with the Hoka Cielo X1. First up, we talk with Bekah Broe, Director of Product, Performance Footwear, before jumping into all things Cielo X1 with the designer of the shoe, Val Weilert, Senior Design Manager for Hoka.

It's Olympic Trials week for the marathon and we're heading to Orlando (we're actually already there). But don't worry, we still found time to get weird for y'all. The big news this week is the release of the Hoka Cielo X1, a carbon-plated super shoe with a full Peba midsole and aggressive rocker geometry. It may be the most fun shoe we've ever worn. Before that, we talk about our favorite dark horse to win the Trials, our weekend at the Winter GRIT party, skinless dogs, and staring at ourselves in the mirrors to try and discover what we're made of. If that sounds bizarre to you, you're not wrong. This is episode is sponsored by LMNT. Meg may or may not have set up a campsite in Harbor East in the hopes of catching a Taylor Swift sighting as she comes into town to see her Travvy lose to Lamar and the rest of the Ravens. We also cover our own running (the road to Boston begins now, or something), Thomas listening to the sounds of the Rainforest Cafe through a sleep mask, and whether or not we could survive an Andes plane crash (we couldn't). We also talk about the Diadora Gara Carbon, a surprisingly great carbon-plated race day shoe coming at the end of February.

If if it feels like we're doing a Meg race recap every other month, it's because we are. Her sixth marathon of 2023 was a final Hail Mary at an OTQ, and though it came up short, she finished with a sub-2:37 in our hearts. Get her full recap of the race, which she ran in the Nike Alphafly 3, a shoe that returns the magic that v2 took away. Lagoon Pillows is how we get our good sleep and we're happy to have them sponsor the podcast. Right now you can save 15% off your first order with code BELIEVE. Thank you for letting us be ourselves. Few people have repped Baltimore better than Daniel Fang, drummer for hardcore band Turnstile (and many others). Even with their massive rise over the past year, including a summer tour with Blink-182 and three Grammy nominations (losing to Brandi Carlile for best rock song is an absolute travesty), he remains the chillest and nicest guy you could hope to meet. It was an honor to have him into the studio to talk about art, inspiration, living a straight edge lifestyle while on tour, and his newfound love of running. Show a bit of TLC.

Fresh off an absolutely bonkers week at The Running Event 2023, Thomas and Robbe recap what's hot and what's not for 2024 in the running shoe world. Meaghan is in California where she ran a certain race in Sacramento in a certain shoe that starts with Alpha ends with Fly 3, which we will talk about all of that on the next episode of The Drop. There's a lot to cover in this episode, and Robbe's concerned that Thomas has never dipped french fries in a Wendy's Frosty.

Thomas makes us jealous with his tales of the Caribbean life, Robbe gets out his pent-up frustrations on the ubiquity of Taylor Swift in all aspects of life, and Meg just wants to listen to country music in peace. Our last stop on the train to NYC took us right into the heart of marathon weekend, where we met and hung out with so many of you. From the expo to the shake out run with New Balance to the marathon itself, we're not sure anything can top what just went down. Hear all about our full in-depth recap of the weekend and the race itself, and forgive us if we get a little lost along the way.

Special thanks to New Balance and New York Road Runners, and of course, to all of you. We really have a special community of runners and couldn't do it it without your support.

We love having friends on the podcast, especially if they're fellow shoe nerds like us. Emily is one of the few/only women shoe reviewers on YouTube, and also has the most creative channel name (@runlikeheller). Oh, and she's also on the #traintonyc team, so we're lucky we get to hang out with her a few times on our journey to running the New York City Marathon with New Balance.

We talk about how she got into running and reviewing, what life is like on Long Island, and which shoes she's loving right now.

Sorry to those who aren't baseball fans, but the Orioles made the playoffs, so we take some time to acknowledge the only real birds that exist in the world. Then we get into the usual randomness and try and figure out if Thomas got placebo drunk at a Guns 'n' Roses concert in 1992. Also, Meg has a minor setback three weeks out from Chicago. In shoe talk, we discuss the $500 Adidas Adizero Adios Pro Evo 1 and, on the opposite side of the spectrum, the $120 carbon-plated Atreyu Race Model.

191 | Josh Kerr, Brooks Beast Elite

View

He won the 5th Avenue Mile two weeks after he took down Jakob Ingebrigtsen on the sport's biggest stage, outkicking him en route to a world title in the 1500m. And now he's a guest on the greatest podcast in history of the universe. So yeah, you could say it's been a whirlwind of a month for Brooks elite Josh Kerr. We had a lot of fun talking to him about running, winning, and eating to much fast food in America. Follow Josh on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/joshhkerr

The gang took the actual train to NYC to run the New Balance and New York Road Runners 5th Avenue Mile. We talk about the worst seat on a train, Thomas's race day regrets, and Robbe making questionable decisions about stuff found on the ground (again). We also cover the legendary life of Mike the Headless Chicken, which is marginally more entertaining than our conversation about the New Balance 1080v13, which features some major upgrades.

What's going on behind the scenes of the Adidas Adizero podium push over the last few years? That's what we ask Robbie Paterson, Senior Manager of Footwear Development in the Adizero Elite Racing line. We get all the details on how they almost had a 50 mm race shoe until World Athletics laid down the law, how much testing and development goes into an Adizero shoe, and everything that went into the Adidas Adizero Prime X 2 Strung.

We get to talking about the Adidas Prime X Strung 2 (eventually), but first, there's bigger fish to fry, like calling out runners running stop signs (even though we do it all the time), Thomas's flirtation with a stress fracture, high fructose frozen popsicle fun, and whether or not metal detecting is cool or ever has been. Real important stuff for runners.
