But this isn't your typical running podcast– we'll talk about running (of course), but also discuss a wide range of topics, from pop culture to pigeons (not real) to picking up trash here in Baltimore. We also interview elite athletes, industry insiders, musicians, coaches, and more. Follow along as we also discuss our own running highs and lows, as well as our favorite shoes and gear.

We did the Cape Cod kwassa kwassa, running the Falmouth Road Race with Asics this past weekend. We recap all that, including Meg's completion of the Kofuzi Truly Challenge (and her amazing performance on race day). Robbe also scavenges someone's breakfast in the airport and you get to find out if we're gonna be cremated when we die, because why not. Oh, and we talk about the Puma Magnify Nitro 2, a max cushion trainer that we've been enjoying this week.

This episode is sponsored by Electrolit, a scientifically formulated hydration beverage that replenishes the body during physical activity, intense heat, and other outdoor warm-weather activities. It's legit, we drink it, you should check them out.

183 | Morgan Wade, Country Music Artist

45 min
View

We wish we knew her in our wilder days, but we know her now. Morgan Wade is a country music artist who also happens to love weightlifting, running, and ultrarunning. We talk about what it's like to be the Travis Barker lookalike of country music (she has a solid collection of tattoos), a woman in the industry, growing up in a small town, running trails, and more. This was a really fun conversation about running and life.

Download or stream her newest album "Psychopath," on August 25.

Listen to her debut album "Reckless," featuring her hit song "Wilder Days," wherever you get your music.

181 | Greg Itahara, Visual Storyteller

51 min
View

Shoes and running apparel are cool, but they're a lot cooler when Greg Itahara gets his hands on them. Greg is a visual storyteller, an artist who has excelled at creating beautiful and unique designs that oftentimes find themselves on one-off shoes, including the hand-painted Asics Gel-Kayano 30 that he presented to Kayano-San himself at our office here in Baltimore. We were honored to have him in our studio to talk about art, storytelling, creativity, and more. Follow Greg on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/itahara_art/

Things go sideways real quick this week as we try to test the limits of our listeners' attention spans. Thomas and Robbe discuss toothpaste squeezing methods, Thomas gets Robbe to try a drunken cookie recipe, Meg is handed a get out of jail free coin, and we also respond to the torrent of comments on our Dr. Phil Maffetone episode. We probably should have had him on a long time ago, but better late than never. Dr. Phil Maffetone is a coach, author, innovator, and founder of the 180 Formula and the MAF test for heart rate training. He's basically the godfather of the field, which has seen a huge surge in followers over the last decade. He's also been an advisor to music legends like Rick Rubin, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Johnny Cash, and James Taylor.

In this episode, we talk about heart rate training and its benefits, as well as his new research into music and its affect on the mind and training. This is a long one, but it was a lot of fun and super interesting!

Look, we had to know what they were all about, so we went straight to the source. Brett Fraser is the Chief Athletes Officer for the Enhanced Games, a sporting event without drug testing, billed as "an alternative to the corrupt Olympic Games."
This is an open conversation about the persistence of drugs in sport, the idea of "scientifically-enhanced" athletes, and whether or not that's a good thing or a bad thing for sport overall. There are definitely two sides to this issue and both have certain merits, whether you agree or not. Either way, we're interested to see how it plays out over the next year and a half.

We didn't know this before we started, but apparently we just talked to the only person to podium at Marathon de Sables, UTMB, and Western States, where he just won a few weeks ago with the 4th-fastest time ever. And to think that it all started with a bet.
Tom Evans is an Adidas Terrex athlete and no doubt, one of the best ultrarunners in the world right now, throwing down incredible performances on some of the toughest courses in the game. We talk about how he got into running, why he drinks Red Bull before, during, and after his races, and how he's loving the new carbon-plated trail racing shoe coming from Adidas.

Meg's really living up to the tour vibes as we find out when she recaps this weekend's Summer Hydration Tour visits in Austin and Miami. Robbe finds out what happens one week after you have a tick in your arm. Thomas has his own medical anomalies. And we talk about the Nike Ultrafly, which is probably one of the best Nike road shoes... but maybe not at $250.

After a tame time in Boulder, we're back in the wild, folks. That means we talk about everything from Meg's new gambling addiction (jk... maybe) to rat trapping in Baltimore to why it's absolutely criminal that Matthew Lillard wasn't nominated for an Oscar for his flawless portrayal of Shaggy in Scooby Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed. Think about it though: he really was robbed. Oh, we also talk about the Adidas Boston 12 and why it's finally come around to the greatness it once was.

We tried to talk as little about running as possible, but it turns out that Emma Bates is a pretty good runner (2nd at Chicago, 5th at Boston), so it kind of snuck in at times. We did talk about life during breaks between marathon blocks, living in Colorado, martini preferences, and more.

Injuries are a common refrain as runners, and often times, we try our worst to limit them. So what's why we wanted to talk to Dr. Eoin Everard, a chartered physiotherapist with a PhD in Biomechanics. Professionally he has lectured in Ireland for over 10 years on Sports Medicine and Biomechanics publishing several peer reviewed studies.

On this episode, we talk about everything from stretching to warn-ups to the secrets to a healthy spine. From a competitive perspective he has won 5 national senior running titles and has represented Ireland on the international stage from 800m to 10k cross-country. He is a sub-4-minute miler and ran sub-14 minutes for the 5k last year. Finally, he is the current indoor 3000m European O35 champion.
