The U.S. Senate, not recently known for its courage or willingness to stand up to President Donald Trump, sent the entire Trump Administration an acid rebuke on Thursday when it voted to stop funding for U.S. support of the War in Yemen and passed a resolution declaring that Saudi Crown Prince Mohamed bin Salman was responsible for the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi. At the same time, reports appeared that suggested it the Mueller probe will soon dig deeper into Gulf efforts to manipulate the Trump administration. For Gulf allies who rejoiced when Barack Obama left office thinking that was a low point in the relationship, what's ahead will likely be much, much worse. David Sanger of the New York Times discusses how the Trump Administration's decision to pull out of the INF Treaty because of Russian non-compliance may be just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the unwinding of the foundational nuclear agreements of the past several decades. He describes why the INF was widely regarded as a successful agreement and why the rise of new powers may make it hard to put back together again. Responding to the reports of Michael Cohen's Trump Tower Moscow lies and guilty plea, the rising star Congressman from California, Rep. Eric Swalwell, reveals where the new Congress is likely to take investigations into Trump's business ties and their consequences when it assumes office in January. He asserts the Congress will examine Trump Organization money laundering that his colleagues have reason to believe took place and that Mueller may not be exploring as closely. He says instances of suspected lying to the Congress suppressed by Rep. Devin Nunes will be immediately forwarded to Mueller. He suggests the president and his family's financial ties to Saudi Arabia are comparable to those with Russia and will get similar investigative treatment. He does not hesitate to say collusion took place. Anyway…the title refers to Donald Trump’s New-Improved-Yuge-Better-Than-Ever NAFTA which he has rebranded the USMCA (pronounced Us-Muck-Uh.) But what it really is the old NAFTA with a new paint job. Still, it’s better than a sharp stick in the eye (or the collapse of the old NAFTA). The only question is what does it mean for the future of US trade policy—especially with China and the EU. The political furor around the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court may seem like pure domestic US politics, but the implications for America’s role in the world are serious. Not only does the chaos in the US symptom send a disconcerting message to those who once emulated us and an inviting one to our enemies, but the politics behind the nomination hint at bigger issues to come. America is growing more divided between less populated, less diverse “red” states that are disproportionately empowered by the US Constitution and the more diverse, less xenophobic, more urban “blue” states. Donald Trump's track record as an international deal-maker is perfect. He still has not made one major deal of any sort anywhere with anyone (except maybe with a nice gentleman in Moscow, but we'll leave that be for now.). He has undone a bunch of deals--from the Paris Accord to TPP to the Iran nuclear deal. He has announced some deals that weren't really deals--from the "breakthrough" with North Korea to the "breakthrough with Europe" on trade to the "breakthrough" with Mexico on trade. And he has also promised some deals that never materialized--from getting Mexico to build the wall to a Middle East peace agreement. Donald Trump has wrapped himself so tightly in the flag he could be America’s first July 4th mummy but while his true colors may be red white and blue it increasingly appears they may look more like the Russian flag than Old Glory. First, he showed this when at a school appearance he was unable to color in a flag properly.
