Yasir Qadhi was born in Houston, Texas and completed his primary and secondary education in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. He graduated with a B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Houston, after which he was accepted as a student at the Islamic University of Madinah.
After completing a diploma in Arabic, he graduated with a B.A. from the College of Hadith and Islamic Sciences.
Thereafter, he completed a M.A. in Islamic Theology from the College of Dawah, after which he returned to America and completed his doctorate, in Religious Studies, from Yale University. Currently he is teaching at Rhodes College, in Memphis, TN.
Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi lays out what the Sharia says about humour and joking.
Numerous Hadith are cited that support the humorous stance of the Prophet ﷺ:
The Prophet ﷺ used to joke with the small child of one of the Sahabah called Abu Umayr, who had a small bird he used to play with. One day he saw the child looking sad, so he said, "Why do I see Abu Umayr looking sad?" The Sahabah told him, "The nughar which he used to play with has died, O Messenger of Allah." The Prophet ﷺ began to gently joke with the child, saying, "O Abu Umayr, what happened to the nughair?"
A man came to the Prophet ﷺ asking him to give him something to ride. The Prophet ﷺ jokingly said, "I will give you the offspring of a she-camel to ride." He said, "O Messenger of Allah , what will I do with the offspring of a she-camel?" The Prophet said: "Are riding-camels born except from she-camels?"
Zahir was one of the Sahaba for whom the Prophet ﷺ had a deep fondness. One day the Prophet ﷺ came to him while he was selling some goods. He embraced him from behind. Zahir, unable to see who he was, said, "Let me go! Who is this?" Then he turned around and recognized the Prophet SAW and then he tried to move closer to him once he knew who it was. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Who will buy this slave?" Zahir said,"O Messenger of Allah, you will find me unsellable." The Prophet ﷺ said, "But in the sight of Allah SWT you are valuable."
Conditions and etiquette for cracking jokes:
There cannot be anything intrinsically Haram in it.
One cannot terrify the other believer with his jokes.
We should not laugh excessively as it deadens the heart.
It is Haram if we joke against Allah and His Messenger ﷺ.
There cannot be blatant lying in the jokes we make.
When our Prophet ﷺ migrated from Makkah to Madinah, as he entered the city, he gave a prophetic advice which has been recorded in vivid detail by an eyewitness account who was none other than the chief rabbi of Madinah - Abdullah bin Salaam.
Narrated in an authentic hadith in at-Tirmidhi, 'Abdullah bin Salaam said:
"When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ arrived- meaning in Al-Madinah – the people came out to meet him. It was said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had arrived, so I went among the people to get a look at him. When I gazed upon the face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, I knew that this face was not the face of a liar. The first thing that he spoke about was that he said: 'O people, feed the hungry, spread Salaam (greeting of peace), maintain your kin relationships, and pray at night while others are asleep. With this, you shall enter Heaven in peace.'" [Sahih]
Due to its grave importance and captivating lessons, it is called the hadith of Salaam.

Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi's gives a mesmerising lecture on 'Unity in the Muslim Ummah and the Islamic Brotherhood'
The Islamic brotherhood transcends cast, colour, race & nationality. Its only foundation is based on belief and acceptance of Allah as our deity and Prophet Muhammad ﷺ as His final Messenger.
Allah will ask on the Day of Judgement: 'Where are those who loved each other for the sake of My glory? Today, (on a day when there is no shade but mine) I shall shade them with My shade."
Listen intently to fully fathom the need for this quality to be embedded in our life so as to attain unity in the Muslim Ummah.
Sh. Yasir Qadhi speaks a few words from the Prophet's Mosque - Masjid Nabawi and viewing one of its beautiful minarets.
Why is Madinah Munawwarah, the City of the Prophet ﷺ so special and beloved to Muslims?
“O Allah! Bestow on Al-Madinah twice the blessings You bestowed on Makkah,” Prophet Muhammad ﷺ prayed. And lo and behold! This is exactly what we witness today. The grandeur, majesty, peace and sakina felt when we enter Madinah is unparalleled.
Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi shares some insights with us regarding the graves of the Family of the Prophet ﷺ and some of the Companions RA while standing alongside one of the minarets of the Prophet's ﷺ Mosque.
May Allah bless the Family of the Prophet ﷺ and the Companions, and allow us to be buried in the blessed graveyard of Baqi al-Gharqad!
Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi picks up from where he left in the previous video by enumerating the blessings of Uthman Ibn 'Affan RA taking support from various Hadith.
Some that warrant a significant mention are as follows:
Anas ibn Malik narrated the following hadith:
The Prophet ﷺ once climbed the mountain of Uhud with Abu Bakr, `Umar, and `Uthman. The mountain shook with them. The Prophet said (to the mountain), “Be firm, O Uhud! For on you there is a Prophet, a Siddiq, and two martyrs.” (Sahih Al-Bukhari, Vol. 5, Book 57, Number 24)
A'isha reported: Allah's Messenger ﷺ was lying in the bed in my apartment with his thigh or his shank uncovered that Abu Bakr sought permission to get in. It was given to him and he conversed in the same very state (the Prophet's thigh or shank uncovered). Then 'Umar sought permission for getting in and it was given to him and he conversed in that very state. Then 'Uthman sought permission for getting in; Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) sat down and he set right his clothes. Muhammad SAW said: I do not say that it happened on the same day. He ('Uthman) then entered and conversed and as he went out, A'isha said : Abu Bakr entered aind you did not stir and did not observe much care (in arranging your clothes), then 'Umar entered and you did not stir and did not arrange your clothes, then 'Uthman entered and you got up and set your clothes right, thereupon he said: Should I not show modesty to one whom even the Angels show modesty.
Uthman RA was a trusted member of the privileged group and was magnificently benevolent in his charity and it was unlike any other. He is also credited with the commencing of the Islamic calendar at the month of Muharram.
Shaykh Yasir also cites the story behind the appointment of Uthman Ibn Affan RA as the next Khalifa after Umar Ibn Al Khattab RA and what led to it coming into being.

Uthman bin Affan was the longest-serving of the Rightly-Guided Caliphs, leading the community for 12 years. We also gather insight on the Rawdah - nicknamed as the Heaven on earth and how it came into being. Numerous incidents are cited that illustrate different traits of this great khalifa RA.
In this video, Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi unravels the lineage and family life and delves on the early life of the third important Sahaba and Khalifa to walk on this earth -Uthman Ibn 'Affan RA.
The kunya of Uthman Ibn Affan RA was Abu Amr, later changed to Abu Abdullah after birth of a son. Uthman (RA) was a man of medium height; he was a handsome man with excellent features - wheat colored hair, a thick healthy beard, big boned and wide shouldered. Uthman RA was an embodiment of generosity and kindness, humility, modesty and piety. In spite of being affluent, he spent a life of simplicity and would often sleep, wrapped in a blanket, on the sand of the mosque.he was blessed with nine sons and five daughters.
Uthman ibn Affan was the third of the successors of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and was related to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in more ways than one. Uthman was married to Prophet Muhammad’s daughter Ruqayyah and when she died, he married Muhammad’s other daughter, Umm Kulthum.Uthman ibn Affan RA was hence, called the possessor of two lights, Dhun-Noorayn.
Uthman RA never indulged in alcohol, women or idolatry. He had always been the bearer of the beacon that was associated with the preservation, memorization and recitation of the Qur'an. His good deeds such as feeding the hungry, clothing the naked and reading the Qur'an took predominance always.
In the last session on Umar Ibn Al-Khattab RA , Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi cites numerous hadith that were narrated by the great khalifah and we have a count of 539 of them.
Numerous topics were touched base upon via these hadith by Umar RA. Some of them that can be highlighted were pertaining to Nafl prayers, ghusl during janabah, living in luxury, doubts on the janazah of a hypocrite, kissing of the Hajr e Aswad, commenting on the plague in Syria, refuting the Ansar about having two leaders and many more .
Please do watch the video to explore the various factors and conditions behind these hadith and how these touch our lives in various ways and how we should learn from them and act accordingly.
As we watch this video, we are taken on a journey with Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi who unravels and attempts to divulge details on the rulings over non Muslims as said by Umar Ibn Al-Khattab RA, Ash-shurut Umariyah - the conditions he placed on the Ahle-Kitab. We are also provided information on the death of Umar RA.
Some of the rulings and limitations set on the non-Muslims at the time of the Second Khalifa Umar RA can be summarized as follows:
Non-Muslims were prohibited from building new places of worship and had to make do with only the pre-existential ones.
Shirk was prohibited in public and had to be exercised only in in seclusion.
Absolute prohibition of criticism and spying of Muslims.
Though these rulings may be deemed controversial or unfair in this era, Umar RA had set these conditions at a time when conservation was at its peak and hence, we may deem these rulings as progressive and liberal. We are also made to explicitly understand that these rulings cited by Umar RA have no founding to be a necessity of the Shariah and hence, it is not binding and compulsory on the entire Ummah.
As was his dua' in his lifetime of dying as a Shaheed (martyr) in Madinah, he met the same fate via an attack by Abu Lulu Al-Majusi (Firoz), a Persian slave, after Salat Fajr with a poisoned dagger and passed away on a Wednesday, 26th or 27th of Dhul-Hijjah, 23rd year of Hijrah, at age of 63 which was synonymous with the age of Abu Bakr RA and Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. His wish was to be buried alongside his two companions during his lifetime - Abu Bakr RA and Prophet Muhammad ﷺ - and this wish was duly adhered to and fulfilled by Aisha RA.
As Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi delves upon the lives of the noble companions, some of the greatest and most blessed human beings to ever live after the death of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, he brings forth information and facts on the lifestyle, humility and famous statements recorded by Umar ibn Al-Khattab RA.
Highlighting a few below which were said by Umar RA himself are as follows:
The most beloved of you to me are those who point my errors out.
Umar RA went searching for a single camel that had gone missing and reminded Ali RA that Allah may question Umar RA about it.
Always take account of yourself before Allah does, and always take account of your own deeds before Allah does.
Umar RA spoke about his grumbling belly during a khutbah -Whether you grumble or not, you shall remain hungry as long as the Muslims remain hungry.
Some facts about his lifestyle which are worth emulating and imbibing are listed by the Shaykh as follows:
Umar RA chose one garment for winter, one for summer, food for his family and one animal to ride to Hajj/Umrah as his salary on being appointed as the second Khalifa.
Umar RA had no special pavilion or tent pitched for him during his journey to Hajj.
He gave himself less from war booty than others.
His positions and rulings on Mu'tah marriage, Hajj Tamattu and Talaq.
Institution of Taraweeh during Ramadan.
In this motivational talk, Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi culminates the other major battles that were fought under the able leadership of and during the reign of Umar ibn Al-Khattab RA.
Dr. Qadhi discusses the conquest to conquer the capital city of the Persian Empire which was by far the largest and most populous city at the time - Tesifon (Al-Madain). The intriguing aspect of this conquest was that it was achieved in the absence of an actual battle.
Also mentioned in this video are the critical details of the battle of Nahawand in 640CE, 21 AH, which is often nicknamed as the "Conquest of all Conquests." We are also made to reflect on the astonishing fact that this mighty superpower - the Sassanid Empire that was ruling over the world since time immemorial, was annihilated in a matter of just ten years at the hands of our powerful and great Sahabas RA.
In this enlightening talk, Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi attempts to unfold the conquest of the Persian (Sassanid) Empire which had reached the pinnacle of success during the time of the Prophet ﷺ and the battle of Qadisiyah that took place in Sha'ban 15 AH, 636.
The interesting details about the conquest are a direct premonition of sorts by the Prophet ﷺ much before the actual event occurred via various hadith which are elaborated in great detail in the talk by the Shaykh.
Start watching the video to acquaint yourself with this conquest of conquests which marked the almost unimaginable and unbelievable victory of the Muslims and also set a precedent for future battles to come.
In this talk, Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi discusses at length about the major conquests of Umar ibn Al-Khattab RA.
Here, we are made to ponder and reflect at the sheer inability of comprehension of the defeat of the major powers in this era at the hands of a handful of Muslims who fought united against the Persian and Byzantine might and yet, emerged victorious. It is nothing but the will of Allah that saw this shocking event unfold and is beyond human understanding and intellect and hence, continues to perplex historians worldwide.
For more information, do watch the video as Shaykh Yasir Qadhi attempts to diligently and honestly analyse and unfold the incidents that led to these conquests and their details.
Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi analyses the goals of Islamophobia in America and the need for Muslims to comprehend the tricks game being adopted for the same. He advises a spiritual and pragmatic approach to be adopted.
Shaykh Yasir goes on to examine the reason for this xenophobia and Islamophobia that is widely prevalent around us. The unprecedented hatred against the Muslims in this land, the rise of anti Islamophobic crimes and much more can be attributed largely to ignorance of the people and also due to genuine worry and fear for their own kith and kin.
The hatred, animosity and misinterpretation that we see around us is actually the result of the people being terrified and scared due to the thought of having to part with his freedom and being jeopardised. At some level, they want to protect their civilization and this hatred is coming from this aspect.
The oppositions are of two kinds :
Genuinely deluded, scared and yet sincere people who we can hope to change for the better.
Bonafide bigots and racists whom we should leave to Allah to deal with.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi shares tidbits regarding the impact of the rise of feminism in the modern era. Here he breezes through topics like rise of religious feminism, violence against women and much more.
Can we argue for the rights of women within the paradigm of Islam?
Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi shares with us his innermost thoughts on the San Bernardino killings and advises the Muslim community to stay safe and depict their best Islamic behaviour and character in the surrounding.
Calamities and tragedies are an inevitable part of life that tests the true strength of a believe when he turns to Allah in humility and submissiveness leaving his affairs in the Hands of Allah affirmative that Allah will make the best plan for him.
Yet more often than not, we wonder - "Why do bad things happen? Why can't life just be good!!"
Shaykh Yasir enumerates the wisdom behind such calamities.
In this talk on Umar Ibn al Khattab, Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi enlists the blessings (fadhail - praiseworthy traits) and virtues of this great man to have walked the face of this earth.
'Umar Ibn al Khattab is an embodiment of various achievements and this has been due to the following traits he exhibited in times of ease and hardship. This is the man whose name is synonymous with justice and truth, strength and courage, and asceticism and godliness. He is the ultimate when we think of piety, observing and fearing Allah, and crying out of fearing Him.He is renowned for his intuition and intelligence, of being conscientious, and of conquering the desires of the self.
Ibn al-Jawzi said, “You should know that ‘Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, is one of those for whom the good has preceded from Allah. He was honored both in Islam and in the pre-Islamic period.” (The Enlightenment 1/415)
May Allah be pleased with ‘Umar ibn Al-khattab and may we emulate and imbibe the qualities of ‘Umar ibn Al-khattab and all the guided caliphs and the companions of our prophet.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi answers the most pertinent question that crosses and emanates from the mind of the doubters - did Prophet Muhammad ﷺ fabricate Islam to get women?
The doubts would not emanate if one read the biography or Seerah of the Prophet ﷺ and witness proofs of his modesty and chastity.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi ponders on our nature of trivializing the sins committed by us and being completely ignorant of being thankless of the bounties of Allah SWT.
How do we get rid of these sins? Only and only by performing Tawba and Istighfar (repentance and forgiveness) because of our sins.
Four of the major sins committed by Muslims:
Shirk
Having the feeling that the Help of Allah will not arrive
Feeling safe from the potting of Allah
Feeling despair from the Mercy of Allah.
The Prophet ﷺ said, “Every son of Adam commits sin, and the best of those who commit sin are those who repent.”
Allah (SWT) likes us to be constantly repentant. Allah’s Messenger ﷺ said, “Allah is more pleased with the repentance of His slave than anyone of you is pleased with finding his camel which he had lost in the desert. ”
Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger ﷺ saying: "Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, said: My mercy excels My wrath".
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said, "A believer sees his sins as if he were sitting under a mountain which, he is afraid, may fall on him; whereas the wicked person considers his sins as flies passing over his nose and he just drives them away like this (and he moved his hand over his nose in illustration).
Just as we need the forgiveness of Allah for our own sins and mistakes, we must also practice forgiveness toward those who have wronged us.
In this interesting and reflective video, Shaykh Yasir Qadhi attempts to shed some light and get acquainted with the meaning of the companions (the Sahaba) and the Sunni Muslims' beliefs about the Sahaba from the Qur'an and the Sunnah.
We are made aware of the classification of the Sahabas and how there are 12 categories that can be enumerated and are as follows:
Those who accepted Islam from the beginning of Makkah, for instance, Abu Bakr RA .
Those who accepted Islam in Darun Nadwah such as Umar Ibn khattab RA.
Those who emigrated to Abyssinia.
Those who gave the first Uhd Al Aqabah
Those who gave the second Uhd Al Aqabah.
Those who emigrated to Madinah.
Those who are amongst the Badriyoon.
Those who emigrated between Badr and Hudaibiyah.
Those who participated in Baiah Ridhwan.
Those who emigrated after the Treaty of Hudaibiyah and before the conquest of Makkah such as Khalid Ibn Waleed RA.
Those who converted to Islam after the conquest of Makkah.
Those who were the young children who were not baaligh but had seen the Prophet ﷺ and had memories of him.
For further explanation on these categories and much more, do listen to the talk which is a revelation of sorts on the great companions who have walked the face of this earth.
In this amazing talk, Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi continues on the biography of Umar Ibn Khattab RA and shares some Quranic verses and hadith pertaining to him. He was one of the leading proponents of Islamic moral values in the wake of persecution by the non believers. Similar to Abu Bakr Siddique RA, Umar Ibn Khattab RA were gifted with the immense privilege of having participated in all of the Prophet’s ﷺ battles. This was granted due to the intelligence and foresight of Umar RA.
"Among the nations before you there used to be people who were Muhadathoon (Divinely inspired, though they were not prophets). And if there is any of such a person among my followers, it is 'Umar." [Sahih al-Bukhari]
Abdullah Ibn Masud described the importance of Umar’s RA conversion to Islam by saying:"Umar’s becoming a Muslim was a conquest."(Ali ibn al-Athir, Usud al-Ghabah, IV, p. 151)
"O Muslims! This is Umar Ibn Hattab. He is a great Migrant and Helper of migrants. I have taken him as my assistant and counselor. He is so worthy that he admits and speaks the truth even if it is painful. He never seeks to avoid criticism in matters involving Allah’s command and prohibitions. Satan flees from him. Stone and iron melt in the face of his majesty. He is a person praised by the dwellers in Paradise.
Abu Bakr is the pillar of the religion. Umar is the lock on corruption. There can be no corruption so long as Umar is alive.
When satan sees Umar Ibn Khattab he will fall on his face from his majesty!”
“O Allah, strengthen Islam with one of two men whom you love more: Amr ibn Hisham [Abu Jahl] or Umar ibn Al-Khattab.”
Narrated Aslam: Ibn Umar asked me about some matters concerning Umar. He said, “Since Allah’s Apostle died, I have never seen anybody more serious, hard working and generous than Umar bin Al−Khattab (till the end of his life).” [Sahih Al-Bukhari – Book 57 Hadith 36].
To learn more about such riveting ahadith and anecdotes on the life of Umar Ibn Khattab RA, do watch the enlightening talk.
In this informative talk about the early life of the second Khalifa Umar Ibn-Al-Khattab RA, Shaykh Yasir Qadhi helps us gather deep insights on his illustrious journey and the various incidents that set precedent for a fine advocate of sorts of Islam.
He was born in Banu Adi family, a tribe of Quraish in Makkah. His name is Abu Hafs, Umar al Faruq Ibn Khattab Ibn Nufayl Ibn Abdil Uzza Ibn Adi Ibn Ka’ab who was white skinned, tall and stout, sturdy, and strong. He was educated by his father, al Khattab. He was obliged to herd his camels every day. He endured a difficult and exhausting life which inevitably moulded him into a harsh man. Before embracing Islam, Umar was among the harshest man in his hostility to Islam.
Shaykh Yasir also divulges facts on this noble man’s character. He was an intelligent person and a renowned public speaker and successful ambassador of Quraish. Umar (RA) is an embodiment of justice, principles, piety, humility, bravery, strength and character. He performed all his roles whether personal or professional with intensity.
This talk takes us on a journey that shall cite the various factors that turned this harsh man towards Islam and how he played a great role in spreading Islam.
In this video,Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi sheds light on the strange narration about Umar RA and his daughter and critically analyses the facts and fiction.
An uncanny narration started making the rounds before the advent of Islam about Umar Ibn al-Khattab RA burying his own daughters alive as per the custom of the pagan Arabs of his time. The story tells us how an innocent little baby girl playing with her father's beard and her father Umar RA mercilessly buries her in the scorching desert whilst she was still alive!
Was Umar Ibn al-Khattab really ever guilty of this crime? Listen intently to fully comprehend this narration.
Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi ponders over the recent backlash on the Muslims after the recent Paris bombings. Dr. Qadhi assists the Muslims via ways to overcome such trials and tribulations in any part of the world.
Our Prophet Muhammad ﷺ has said: "Later times are going to be afflicted with trials you are going to find difficult to bare" and "Every time one comes, it will make the previous one look trivial". The people will say "this is the one, this is the one" thinking it is much more than the previous.”
The above Hadith is the reality of the hour with Islamophobia at its peak. The reality of the hour is also the need for the Muslim Ummah to step up. We should let go of our nonchalant and ignorant attitude towards these trials and adopt a constructive approach filled with propagation of the truth of Islam for the betterment of Islam. The approach should be by two means - religion and activism.
These trials of Fitan have only been brought down into this trivial world to purify the hearts of the hearts of the believers and reinstall undying faith and love for the religion of Islam. Hence, it is our primary duty to do whatever it takes within permissible limits to ensure that our Deen does not suffer at the hands of these monstrosities.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi delves into a comparison of the faculties of thought and emotion - the brain and the heart. He goes on to say that if the heart is pure , then the rest of the body is also consequently pure.
By ascribing the Iman to our Qalb or heart, Allah signifies its importance. Allah has written directly written Iman into our hearts and it is indeed a great blessing.
Allah mentions in the Quran in Surah Al Hujurat, verses 7 -8:
‘But Allah has endeared to you the faith and has made it pleasing in your hearts and has made hateful to you disbelief, defiance and disobedience. Those are the [rightly] guided. [It is] as bounty from Allah and favor. And Allah is Knowing and Wise.’
Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi revives the true method of dressing like the Prophet ﷺ and following the Sunnah the way our Prophet ﷺ wanted us to follow his Sunnah.
What constitutes the real Sunnah method of dressing? The common clothing of our Prophet ﷺ was a turban, sheep-wool thawb and leather slippers/shoes. Sometimes, he would wear a two-garment dress which bore resemblance to the Ihram of the pilgrims.
However, there is difference of opinion among the Muslim community where some believe in adopting similarity in dressing style so as to make Islam known whereas some Muslims do not believe in this thought process.
Listen intently as Shaykh Yasir breaks down the nuances of essential method of dressing in Islam.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi gives us an insight on the life and times of Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (RA) and how his virtues and good traits have been explicitly explained via numerous hadith on and by him. Many attributes can be imbibed and emulated from the life of this great companion like his generosity, kindness, truthfulness, loyalty to Allah and His Messenger ﷺ. A few that can be enlisted are as follows:
Amr ibn al-’As, (RA), narrated that he asked the Prophet ﷺ “Who is the most beloved person to you?” He said, ‘Aisha.’ I asked, “Among the men?” He said, ‘Her father.’“ [Agreed upon]
Abu Said al-Khudri, (RA), narrated that the Prophet ﷺ said, “There is no one who has done more favor to me with his life and property than Abu Bakr ibn Abu Quhafa. If I were to take a Khalil (very close friend), I would certainly have taken Abu Bakr as one but the Islamic brotherhood is superior. Close all the small doors in this mosque except for that of Abu Bakr.” [Agreed upon]
Anas (RA) said, “The Prophet ﷺ ascended the mountain of Uhud and he was accompanied by Abu Bakr, ‘Umar and ‘Uthman. The mountain shook beneath them. The Prophet ﷺ hit it with his foot and said, “O Uhud! Be firm, for on you there is none but a Prophet, a Siddîq and two martyrs”. [Reported by al-Bukhari 3686]
Jubair bin Mutim narrated that a woman came to the Prophet ﷺ who instructed her to return to him again. She said, “What if I came and did not find you?” as if she wanted to ask, “If I found you dead?” The Prophet said, “If you should not find me, go to Abu Bakr.” [Agreed upon]
Ali, (RA), said, “The best people after the Messenger of Allah are Abu Bakr and ‘Umar. Loving me and hating Abu Bakr and ‘Umar do not gather in the heart of a believer.” [Reported by at-Tabarani in Al-Awsat (the Middle)]. Ibn Al-Qayyim, therefore, said, “It is sufficient for us to abide by the words of Ali (RA). We have accepted for our world what the Prophet ﷺ has accepted for our religion [The Benefits by Ibn al-Qayyim, pp. 111-112].
Abu Huraira [RA] reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ has said, “Who has observed fast among you today?” Abu Bakr replied, “It is I.” He (the Prophet) said, “Who among you followed a funeral today?” Abu Bakr replied, “It is I.” He (again) said, “Who among you visited an ill person today?” Abu Bakr said, “It is I.” Upon this the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Anyone in whom these good deeds are combined will certainly enter paradise.“ [Reported by Muslim 1028]
Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi delves into a very uncomfortable topic in which he unabashedly deals with the most controversial allegations on Prophet Muhammad ﷺ: Fraud or Messenger of God!
From time immemorial, our Prophet Muhammad SAW has been accused of numerous falsities such as- "A mad man!", a liar, deluded and possessed and even to the extent of classifying him as a deceitful sorcerer! His image and his impeccable legacy and a miraculous one at that, has been tarnished time and time again throughout history.
But this did not deter the multitude of his true and pure followers who continued to listen and tread on his imminent path of Islam. His teachings have influenced the average believer to reach astounding heights of undying Iman and gratitude towards Allah for sending him as a Messenger on the face of this earth. The result of this undying belief was only one - his opponents declined in number surrounded by their exasperation, frustration and fury.
Listen intently to be mesmerised by the lecture and reaffirm our Sunnah.
As we embark on an emotional ride with Shaykh Yasir Qadhi , we are enlightened on the details of the death of Abu Bakr RA and the appointment of 'Umar b. al-Khattab RA as the next Khalifa.
This talk makes us aware of the two major battles fought against Syria ( As Sham) and Iraq which toppled entirely the oldest and magnanimous civilizations of the time - the Roman Empire and the Sassanid Empire. These are discussed to great lengths and many mind blowing facts come to light which further illustrates the greatness and military genius of Abu Bakr RA .
Shaykh Yasir also presents us with the opinions of the historians who find these conquests nothing short of major anomalies as these battles were fought by the almost new Muslim civilization against the those that had achieved mastery.
Their lack of getting around these conquests and the simultaneous success of the Muslims arises from a simple question - How could an army that was so new, under equipped, malnourished, under armed and complete lack of training topple the two great civilizations of all times? We are then made to realize the power of Allah Almighty into seeing these things happen which is beyond human comprehension.
Also, there is ample discussion on the great warrior of all time, Khalid Ibn Waleed RA , who was described by the Prophet ﷺ as the ‘ Unsheathed Sword of Allah’. His dominance in destroying the civilizations prevalent in Syria and Iraq , which were bastions of Roman and Persian dominance, is firmly etched in our minds via vivid details and imagery.
Finally, we are enlightened on the details of the death of Abu Bakr RA, his conditions and statements before his death and how he set an example and adhered to the Sunnah even in his last moments is worth a listen.
May Allah SWT gather us with the beloved Sahaba of Allah on the Judgement Day and the Hereafter.
Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi begins the talk on why the Muslim world is lagging behind and how we must push ourselves to ponder over the reason and why is it that our young brothers and sisters are struggling.
It is a common occurrence where every convert brother or sister who comes into the religion of Islam is countered with almost 10 times the number thinking of leaving Islam.same is the case with Friday prayers where there are a few Muslims who simply do not care about Islam at all.
In today's challenging atmosphere, we encounter many Muslims having apprehensions, doubts and uncertainties regarding their Deen and a blanket of skepticism and agnosticism takes precedence and often succeeds in poisoning the Muslim Ummah from inside.
This talk takes us through the political and military conquests of Abu Bakr Siddique RA and the reasons behind these battles which were fought for expansion of Iraq and As Sham.
How did the Sahaba ensure that masses accept Islam? Shaykh Yasir Qadhi enlists for us the beautiful ways in which this was achieved.
The selfless acts of encouraging the masses to accept Islam is beautifully illustrated citing the conversation that transpired between Rabi Ibn Amir and the Persian king Rustum, which briefly summarized, was for the sole purpose of negating false religions, banishing idolatry and submitting oneself to the life in the Hereafter.
In this mesmerizing talk, Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi sheds light and elaborates on the compilation and preservation of the Qur'an by Abu Bakr As Siddiq (r).
The Shaykh seeks to illustrate the effects and lessons that we imbibe from the Battle of Ridda discussed in the previous talk - the eminent one being the conservation and preservation of the Qur'an.
He also attempts to answer the pertinent questions in our mind - Why wasn't the Noble Qur'an gathered until then? Who compiled the Qur'an? Who was the motivating factor behind Abu Bakr RA finally compiling the Qur'an?
Zayd Ibn Thabit is elaborately talked about in this talk with emphasis on his expertise in memorization of the Qur'an and how his prowess was utilized even at a time of utmost importance.
The Qur'an was compiled by many learned individuals and there was some difference in each one's compilation due to legitimate reasons about which we are enlightened by Shaykh Yasir Qadhi.
In this enthralling series on Abu Bakr, Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi continues his talk on the battles of Ridda.
We are introduced to another false prophet- Tulayha Al Asadi who was key in the battle of the Trenches but accepted Islam later and then made huge contributions in the battles of Yarmouk and Qadisiyah.
In this talk, Shaykh explores the people who regarded themselves Muslims but did not give Zakah and how Abu Bakr RA addressed and raised concerns about this issue and how it was sorted eventually.
Differences in interpretation are discussed at length which make it clear how the events that led to refusal of Zakah by the Muslims transpired. Citing a connect between Eeman and Amal, the incidents that happened are shed light upon.
We are also acquainted with the types of people in connection with Eeman and Amal:
Believe and Action - True Muslims
Lack of Belief or Action - Non Muslims
Belief is prevalent but Lack of Actions - Hypocrites
What is required from Zakah and Salah to be a Muslim? This question has been answered with support from the Qur'an through various pairing up of verses.
The conversations between Umar RA and Abu Bakr RA, Khalid Ibn Waleed and Malik Ibn Nuwayra, the Chieftain of Banu Tamim is given a mention and how it sows the seeds for laying importance on the giving of Zakah and how blood money is only paid to Muslims, showing the status of people who refused to pay Zakah.
The Shaykh explains that people who withhold Zakah due to greed will be classified as sinners and rebels.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi delves into what comprises the correct theology in Islam.
Many of us come across individuals who get into debates about different discussions on theology from an academic standpoint. But the more we try to contextualise and put historical boundaries around these advanced theologies and concepts , the more we realise that at the end of the day, the scholars were all having one common aim - to defend the Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ.
Is it Haram to feel attached to a Nation? What is the concept of nationalism in the view of Islam? What are the rulings on this? Is it Islamic or un-islamic? Can a middle path be adopted? When and towards whom should my loyalty be? Shaykh Yasir Qadhi extrapolates answers and gives us answers.
Tribalism, nationalism and swearing of allegiances are topics that bring out a sense of conflict in our mind and we get into a conundrum of sorts whilst choosing between this and our faith. In this case, a middle path of moderateness is advised.
What proof is there that God exists? What do we respond to a person who questions God’s existence? What is the ruling on this from an Islamic perspective and paradigm? Wouldn’t it be nonsensical to enumerate the uncountable proofs all around us that show us the same? What is Fitrah or the spiritual DNA of a person inclined to do?
There is no God but Allah (SWT). What can we take from the Qur'an and Sunnah on proving that Allah (SWT) exists? Also, what scientific proof can we give to one asks this question?
Shaykh Yasir explains what would be the best way to handle these questions.
Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi shared a platform with dignitaries at one of the imminent conventions where he was questioned about the recent death threats made against him and whether it affects his commentary on Islamic viewpoints or does it embolden him in his criticism of the ISIS.
He ponders on how elated he is that his points that are being raised against ISIS is bringing about such a difference and irritating them no end such that they feel the need to eliminate him.
Listen intently to this video and stare into the face of undying confidence, Iman and Taqwa.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi discusses the need of the hour and the revival of the legacy of our beloved Prophet ﷺ - building women friendly mosques and hence, empower women to also have equal rights to enter the Masaajids.
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said "Do not prevent the female servants of Allah from the Mosques of Allah."
As opposed to the ancient times, when women were never allowed to enter a Masjid and pray in tranquility, times have changed for the better. People are striving to get women to frequent the Mosques and it is a prominent and welcoming change.
Hence, the onus is now on the Islamic heads and authorities to ensure that the mosques are women-friendly and that women are as involved as men in the decision-making process of the mosques. This is best achieved by appointing women in the governing bodies of the mosques.
Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi speaks truth to power and stands up for the rights of the oppressed by putting a brave face against oppression and injustice.
Muslim all over the globe are victim of oppression to the maximum extent what with the plethora of innocent women, children and men being killed in attacks which is the effect of tyrannical leaders and biased politics. The ignorant media is also party to the crime by tainting our faith and our Prophet ﷺ galore.
In order to survive amicably and to protect one’s loved ones,Muslims never criticize people who misinterpret Islam and tarnish our Deen no end. This has to end if we are to present before our future Ummah, a religion that is laced with peace and mercy and it is a religion that needs to be spread all over the world to have some hope of recovery from the vices of people of power.
In this interesting talk, Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi directs his discussion on two fundamental aspects - issue of Fadak and the Battles of Ridda.
We understand that an agreement was mutually consented on between the people of Fadak and the Prophet ﷺ for avoiding an attack and how the remuneration received was utilized by the Messenger ﷺ for the betterment of the Ummah. Also, issues pertaining to inheritance of the wives and the daughter of the Prophet ﷺ, Fatima RA are elaborated in the talk by the Shaykh. The next point of discussion is the role played by Abu Bakr RA in dealing with this and how it affected the relation between Fatima RA and Abu Bakr RA.
The next topic that the Shaykh delves into is the battle of Ridda and the reasons for its commence. The acceptance of Islam by many tribes was never for their love of Eeman and Islam. They had hidden intentions some of which were:
Reintroduction of Jahiliyyah and idolatry.
Introduction and belief in new Prophets in spite of behaving entirely like Muslims such as Musaylamah and Sajjah.
Cessation of Zakat amongst people.
Stories and incidents during this battle are explained in great detail whilst highlighting the eminence and role of a great warrior known for his military tactics and prowess, Khalid Bin Waleed RA.
Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi commences part four on the life of Abu Bakr as-Siddiq [RA} by divulging important information regarding the Khilafa of Abu Bakr [RA], who was appointed as "Khalifatu Rasulullah". Also, Shaykh shares with us the incidents of the "Army of Usama ibn Zayd" and Ali RA not giving his Bayyah (allegiance) to Abu Bakr RA and also facts about what led to reversal of this decision.
A brief biography of Usama ibn Zayd is reflected upon which includes his lineage, his family and his nickname. The Shaykh then describes the key points of the army of Usama Ibn Zayd of whom he was appointed the leader. Hadiths are shared at this point in the lecture which authenticate the above statements. Clearly, the decision was met with criticism considering his age and maturity on the topic of war. It is at this time that Abu Bakr RA advice was sought and he dealt with this pressing issue in the most powerful, delightful and sane manner possible as you shall confirm when you hear the talk.
The next topic discussed is that of Ali RA not giving his allegiance to Abu Bakr RA until six months. Here, we get our attention drawn to various Hadith highlighting the issue of allegiance, the conditions during which allegiance is said to have happened and and how finally, there was acceptance and allegiance sworn to the Khilafa of Abu Bakr, Umar ibn al Khattab and Uthman ibn Affan [radhiAllahu anhum ajma'een].
In this enlightening video, Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi uncovers the blessings and battles concerning the Great Sahaba and the first Caliph - Abu Bakr As Siddiq RA.
Numerous facts and Hadith come to light as we see Shaykh Yasir unravel them in a mesmerizing manner.
Some among them are
Participation in every battle that the Prophet ﷺ was a part of.
Comparison of Prophet Isa AS and Abu Bakr RA regarding softness in character and behavior during the battle of Badr.
Strong defense of the Prophet ﷺ in the battle of Uhud even after facing disagreement from the opposing Sahabas.
Display of huge amount of sadness and regret on the issue of slander of Aishah RA during the Battle of Khandaq. So much so that Allah (SWT) revealed Surah Nur to set the matter to rest after having revealed verses clarifying the matter and clearing Aishah RA of any misdeed.
Advice to the Prophet ﷺ in the battle of Hudaibiyah to only fight when the situation demanded and also where Abu BAkr RA displayed anger in the wake of absolute necessity and not for the sake of it.
Competition with Umar RA regarding the maximum charity of wealth at Tabuk and also where he asks the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to make dua for rain to occur.
Display of anger towards Aishah RA for having raised her voice against the Prophet ﷺ.
Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi lays stress on the topic of parenting children in today’s times and also shares his experiences of Muslim kids involved in drugs, pornography and pre-marital sex.
We often naively neglect the environment around us in which our child is being raised. But with all the exposure to indecency, it is no longer time to be politically correct and hide in our conservative Muslim shells and be self-destructively naive that "It won't happen to my son and daughter!"
If we treat our children with the maturity, intelligence and respect they deserve and hand out responsibility to them, we have far better chance of raising individuals who can lead much better lives making conscious decisions and staying away from the filth of the society.
Dua to Allah to instil Iman in our children.
The number one source of education for our children is us parents. If we do not set the bar for our children, we will be the one who will have to bear the ill-consequences.
Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi implores upon us to break free from the bounds and territories of ignorance, arrogance and divisions while enamouring the humility of knowledge through tolerance and acceptance.
Acquiring knowledge should never imply that one would begin to despise, curse, and belittle our fellow Muslims. Rather it would only cement the fact that we have indeed very little knowledge as it is evident that one would not exhibit fanaticism if he had been blessed with beneficial knowledge.
The more one acquaints himself with sound knowledge, the more humble and tolerant of other people and opinions one becomes. As a corollary of this, the more ignorant and arrogant a person is, intolerance and divisiveness are his marked characteristics.
Our Shariah is ample proof for proving the humility of knowledge. When the Qur'an and Sunnah was sent down in the midst of a group of ignorant and arrogant people, it moulded them into a generation of humble worshippers that tolerated differences and respected their fellow compatriots as opposed to being ignorant and arrogant.
Listen intently in order that we may also imbibe and inculcate the positive traits of our forefathers.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi delves into the topic of eclipses and acquaints us with the factors that come into place when an eclipse takes place. What is the Islamic position on the solar and lunar eclipses and the Qusoof and Khusoof prayers prayed at the time of the occurrence of an eclipse?
History of Islam considers the death of the beloved son of the Prophet ﷺ as one of the most tragic incidents to have transpired in the life time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.
What seemed even miraculous on that fateful day was the eclipse of the sun which people attributed to the death of the Prophet's ﷺ son. When the Prophet ﷺ heard of these rumours, he said: "The sun and the moon do not eclipse because of the death or life of someone, but they are two signs amongst the Signs of Allah. So, if you see them, offer the Prayer (of eclipse in praise of Allah)".
Eclipsing is a supremely profound and awe inspiring celestial happening and it goes on to certify the Signs of Allah's Might and Power.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi delves into the virtues of the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah and the good deeds that can be done during the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah.
These are the days that are more superior than the blessed month of Ramadan and Fridays.
The Prophet ﷺ said: "There are no days in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than these ten days." The people asked, "Not even Jihad for the sake of Allah?" He said, "Not even jihad for the sake of Allah, except in the case of a man who went out to fight giving himself and his wealth up for the cause, and came back with nothing."
Some of the good deeds that can be performed in these blessed days are as follows:
Performing Hajj and UmrahFasting in these daysSaying the Takbeer oftenTo repent to Allah SWT from our sinsExtra prayer, Qur'an and DhikrSacrificing an animalPray the Eid prayer - it is obligatory upon every Muslim - man or womanAppreciate the blessings of Allah ,thank Allah for what he has given you and ask Allah for forgiveness for the sins committed.
Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi implores us to awaken the streaks of humanity within ourselves to address the growing crisis of refugees all across the world and the subsequent ill treatment that they face at the hands of the oppressors.
Information about their state of affairs, their deplorable plight and current situation is analysed for us to fully fathom and comprehend the extent of the atrocities being meted out at them with no sign of respite from the oppression.
Through the video, we are acquainted with numerous ways in which we can reach out to those who need the help and ease their pain and suffering to the best of our means and ability.
Shaykh Dr Yasir Qadhi discusses the idea of one Ummah devoid of racism and bigotry referencing to Surat Al-Hujurat.
In the past, the colour of the skin and tribal lineage were mandatory markers to decide one’s status in the society.
The Prophet ﷺ eradicated racism and bigotry and said in his final Khutbah -"There is no superiority of an Arab over a non-Arab, nor of a non-Arab over an Arab, nor of a white over a black, nor a black over a white, except by taqwa (piety and god consciousness)."
Hence, it is binding upon us to inculcate and imbibe these imminent set of values within ourselves and tackle the predicaments of the society full throttle so that we live in a better place and the future of the Muslim Ummah is also shining bright.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi explains explicitly about the Day of Judgment in light of Surat Ad-Dukhan and Surat Al-Jathiyah.
Belief in Yawm al Qiyamah is the most talked about in the Qur'an after Tawheed. 40 names are mentioned in the Qur'an for Yawm Al Qiyamah. There are scientific, ethical, philosophical biological and rational concepts of the Day of Judgement.
Of a few descriptions of Yawm al Qiyamah is that people’s hearts will be in their throats meaning that they will be terrified beyond measure. young men will turn into old men.People will be assumed to be in a drunken state but they will not be actually drunken rather they are in a state of daze. On that day, the righteous will be saved and will pass through this day in a duration which is that between Asr and Maghrib. But those who had rejected Islam will have the day equal to 50000 years.
