Yasir Qadhi was born in Houston, Texas and completed his primary and secondary education in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. He graduated with a B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Houston, after which he was accepted as a student at the Islamic University of Madinah.
After completing a diploma in Arabic, he graduated with a B.A. from the College of Hadith and Islamic Sciences.
Thereafter, he completed a M.A. in Islamic Theology from the College of Dawah, after which he returned to America and completed his doctorate, in Religious Studies, from Yale University. Currently he is teaching at Rhodes College, in Memphis, TN.
In this video, Shaykh Yasir Qadhi divulges explicit details on the life and times of Abu Ubaidah ibn al-Jarrah or commonly called Abū ‘Ubaydah ‘Āmir ibn ‘Abdillāh ibn al-Jarāḥ.
This great Sahaba who is amongst the Ashara Mubashara was an embodiment of humility, integrity, honesty and modesty. But this was in sharp contrast to his personality on the battlefield where he displayed immense strength, valour and bravery.
An interesting anecdote is shared by the Shaykh that illustrates this very aspect during the battle of Uhud. Abu Ubaidah RA had to part with his two front teeth which came as a result of the piercing of the Prophet ﷺ blessed head due to his own helmet. Abu Ubaidah bin Al-Jarrah was unable to stand and witness this misery and hence, after seeking permission from the Prophet ﷺ to be allowed to do the honour of relieving him of his pain.
The life of Abu Ubaidah saw him in the wake of an intense test of his commitment for Islam at the battle of Badr . it was almost incomprehensible as to how this could ever be achieved if not for the utter love for Allah SWT and Muhammad SAW. Abu Ubaidah bin Al-Jarrah was face to face with his own father who was making every possible attempt to attack the Prophet ﷺ which shocked him no end. Nevertheless, he kept his faith strong and annihilated his father without any remorse or regret only for the sake of the Prophet ﷺ.
When Abu Ubaidah was in Jabyia he became severely ill due to plague and was almost on his deathbed, he advised his army the following - “Let me give you some advice, which will cause you to be on the path of goodness always. "Establish Prayer, fast in the month of Ramadan, give charity, perform the Hajj and Umrah, remain united and support one another, be sincere to your commanders and do not conceal anything from them. Don't let the world destroy you for, even if man were to live a thousand years, he would still end up with this state that you see me in. Peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah."
For many more such stories , military conquests and details on hadith, please listen to the above talk with diligence.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi elucidates on the life and times of the next great Sahaba who was promised paradise - Saad Ibn Abi Waqqas. We will be acquainted with his lineage, his personality, his outstanding traits and what was his contribution in the way of Islam. A few hadith will also be explained citing the greatness of this great man to have walked the face of this earth.
Saʿd ibn Abī Waqqās stepped into this world in Mecca in the hands of Abu Waqqas Malik ibn Uhayb ibn Abd Manaf ibn Zuhrah from the Banu Zuhrah clan and Hamnah bint Sufyan ibn Umayya ibn Abd Shams ibn Abd Manaf.he had around 40 children and prominent among them were - his sons Umar and Aamir and his daughter A'isha. He was the seventh to have converted to Islam at the tender age of 17 at the hands of Abu Bakr As-Siddiq RA and left this world at the age of 80.
Sa`d RA was an embodiment of generosity, gratefulness, loyalty and benevolence. He was blessed with farsightedness and had a short and hairy physical attributes. He is commemorated in Islam to have been the first to shed blood in the way of Islam . he was credited with the nickname - Mustajab ud Dua - his Dua never missed acceptance, or his Dua was always answered.
He was a military genius which is clearly demonstrated in his leadership acumen in conquering the Sassanid Empire with a display of immense skill and prowess. His command in The Battle of Qadisiyyah and in the conquest of Persian empire displayed a force to reckon with.
Allah has revealed a verse highlighting the firm resolve of Saad RA in the wake of his mother’s rage towards her son for having accepted Islam. It is hence revealed: "But if they (both) strive with you to make you join in worship with Me others that of which you have no knowledge, then obey them not ." [Surat Luqman: 15]
When the Prophet ﷺ saw Sa'd RA giving a firm fight in the Battle of Uhud, he praised him, "Throw O Sa'd! May my mother and father be sacrificed for you!" . The Messenger of Allah SAW made Dua for him too for him -"O Allah! Make his arrows hit the target and make his prayer acceptable!"
For many such interesting Hadith and anecdotes, please listen intently to Shaykh Yasir Qadhi .
Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi addresses the topic of domestic violence which is prevalent and rampant in all sects of society. He delves on matters related to the position of the Qur'an and Sunnah when it comes to prohibition of violence against women, the types of abuse (physical, emotional) women have to deal with and what should be one’s stance in the wake of being the subject of domestic violence.
Islam in no way supports this un-Islamic and toxic practice and if anyone resorts to this demeaning act, it is only because of defects in his behaviour and not because of religion.
A'ishah RA said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ never struck a servant of his with his hand, nor did he ever hit a woman. He never hit anything with his hand, except for when he was fighting Jihad in the cause of Allah.”
Treat your wives with kindness. The Shariah does not condone the abuse of wives. In light of the ideal man who is the Prophet ﷺ, we should imbibe and inculcate the Hadiths given to us and stand firm on the teachings of Qur'an and Sunnah.
The final Khutbah made by the Prophet ﷺ addresses women :
“O People, it is true that you have certain rights with regard to your women, but they also have rights over you. Remember that you have taken them as your wives only under Allah’s trust and with His permission. If they abide by your right then to them belongs the right to be fed and clothed in kindness. Do treat your women well and be kind to them for they are your partners and committed helpers. And it is your right that they do not make friends with any one of whom you do not approve, as well as never to be unchaste.”
This talk sees Shaykh Yasir Qadhi delve into the life and times of another great Sahaba to have ever walked the face of the earth - AbdurRahman Ibn Awf RA.
Abdur-Rahman ibn Awf stepped into this world in the Banu Zuhura clan which had a similarity in the fact that it was also the tribe of the Prophet's ﷺ mother, Aminah RA. Prophet Muhammad ﷺ gifted him the name - Abdur-Rahman Ibn ‘Awf, which means Servant of the Most Merciful One (Allah).
We are also made aware of the richness that Allah had bestowed upon him and yet how his life was an embodiment of extreme humility and gratitude.he always set himself the target of using his wealth to benefit the religion of Islam and to please Allah and took profound measures in ensuring so.his love for charity knew no bounds. Abdur-Rahman had extreme proximity with Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and so it comes as no surprise about his profound knowledge of Islam and his eagerness to spread the message of Islam everywhere.
Explicit details are shared and delved upon by Shaykh Yasir Qadhi on the early life of Abdur Rahman Ibn Awf RA, the reason behind his success and the lessons we can imbibe and emulate from his benevolent personality.
AbdurRahman Ibn Awf RA left for his heavenly abode at the age of 75 years during the Khilafah of Uthman Ibn Affan RA.
This video unravels the life and times of Az Zubayr Ibn Al Awwam RA and how he was an indispensable part of Islam in an enthralling talk by Shaykh Yasir Qadhi.
Zubayr ibn Awwam father’s name was al-Awwam and his mother was Safiyyah bint Abd al-Muttalib who was the aunt of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Hence, he was also the cousin of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. He had another relation where he was the blessed nephew of Khadījah RA. In another way,he was also the husband of Asma who was the daughter of Abu Bakr as-Siddique RA. his two prominent sons who find a place in the history of Islam are - Abd Allah ibn al-Zubayr and Urwah ibn Zubayr.
Zubayr ibn `Awwam ibn Khuwaylid ibn Asad ibn `Abd al-`Uzza ibn Qusayy RA is credited with the nickname “The Disciple” of the Prophet ﷺ. He played magnanimous roles in the different battles prominent in Islam such as the battle of Badr, the battle of Uhud, battle of the Trench, battle of Yarmuk and so many more. He has to his valiant credentials the glory of never having missed a campaign or battle that was led by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He was an embodiment of honesty, trustworthiness and self-sacrifice.
Az-Zubair bin al-Awwam RA was the blessed companion of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and was among the early people who had accepted Islam as their religion. As is well known, he also had the bliss of being amongst the Ashara Mubashara. He has the privilege of honour to unsheathe the sword in the path of Allah for the first time. A famous narration certifies this fact and has been explicitly covered by Shaykh Yasir Qadhi.
One of the numerous Hadiths that have been discussed in the above talk and that which illustrate the stature of this great Sahabi is elucidated in the following narration:
In the battle of Badr, the Prophet ﷺ said on seeing a yellow turban tied around the head of Az-Zubayr Ibn Al-Awwam “Verily, the angels [also] came down from heaven [to assist the believers] in the appearance of Az-Zubayr”.
We are acquainted with details on his death and how it was the most tragic events that transpired at the time. When Zubayr ibn al-Awwam left the Battle of the Camel in the initial rounds and was returning, he encountered Amr ibn Jurmuz and in a lowly level of deceit was stabbed and killed by him.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi takes on the topic of conflicting challenges faced by the modern generation and the generation of our parents or the previous generations.
Being Muslims, we should adopt the approach of understanding our society around us and not just focus our energy on building our own community. Of course, it is a necessity but it should be done in a balanced way such that we lay equal emphasis on our role in the framework of the huge nation that we are a part of.
Who is voicing the concerns or the troubles faced by the Muslim ummah? The past supporters of Islam did provide us with quintessential support to the best of their ability. But today, where are the influential Muslim voices? The youth of our Islam religion should step up and realise their role in the upliftment of Islam and confront their fears while reminding themselves of their large part to play as a part of the population of this nation.
The flourishing of Islam is also because of our previous generation and we should be always proud of that culture and the efforts that went into the realisation of their dreams.
In this video, Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi unravels details about the life of Talha Ibn Ubaydullah who is one among the Ashra Mubashra.we are also provided with explanations about the concept in question -"Ashara Mubashara" or the "Ten promised Paradise."
Narrated Sa’id Ibn Zayd: Abdur Rahman Ibn Al-Akhnas said that when he was in the mosque, a man mentioned Ali r.a. So Sa’id got up and said: I bear witness that the Apostle of Allah ﷺ that I heard him say: Ten persons will go to Paradise. The Prophet ﷺ will go to Paradise, Abu Bakr will go to Paradise, Umar will go to Paradise, Uthman will go to Paradise, Ali will go to Paradise, Talhah will go to Paradise, Az-Zubayr Ibn Al-Awwam will go to Paradise, Sa’d Ibn Malik will go to Paradise, and Abdur Rahman Ibn Awf will go to Paradise. If I wish, I can mention the tenth. The People asked: Who is he. So he kept silence. They again asked: Who is he. He replied: He is Sa’id Ibn Zayd. [Abu Dawood]
The 10 Companions of the Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وآله وصحبه وسلم are promised Paradise:
Abu Bakr As-Siddiq
Umar bin Al-Khattab Al-Faruq
Uthman bin Affan, Dhun-Nurayn
Ali bin Abi Talib
Talha bin Ubaidullah
Zubair bin Al-Awwam
Abdur-Rahman bin Awf
Sa’d ibn Abi Waqqas
Sa’id ibn Zayd
Abu Ubaidah Aamir bin Abdullah bin Al-Jarrah
The Prophet ﷺ said about Talha:“He, who desires to see a martyr walking on the ground, let him look at Talha bin Ubaidullah.” [Mishkat, Ibn Hisham]
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ once wore two coats of armor and tried to get up on a boulder, but was unable to. so Talha squatted under him, lifting the Prophet such that he could sit on the boulder. Allah was so pleased with Talha’s help and the Prophet informed Talha that Paradise was now obligatory on him. He came to be known as “Talha the Generous” and “Talha the Good” for his generosity. He is remembered for his prominent roles in the Battle of Uhud and the Battle of the Camel.
Talhah Bin ‘Ubaydullāh bore a special relation with the family of the Prophet ﷺ.He had married Hamnah Bint-e-Jahsh who was the sister of Zainab Bint-e-Jahsh. Thus, Talhah Bin ‘Ubaydullāh was also the husband of the wife’s sister of the Prophet ﷺ.
Talha Bin Ubaidullah was killed during the battle of Jamal by Marwan bin Al Hakam.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi divulges on details pertaining to the blessings of marriage and the key factors that help in its sustainability.
Each spouse finds Sakeenah through the other spouse. Each completes the other. In Surah 30, Verse 21 of Surah ar-Rum, Allah tells us that he regards the creation of spouses - the husband and wife - as a sign of His greatness. Not only has Allah created these individuals, but He himself has placed love and mercy between them so that they can live a life of tranquility, peace and harmony.
Both husband and wife need mutual respect and love, care and understanding. The husband has the right to attain respect from his wife in exchange for love and adoration towards the wife. We should submit to Allah and be just and balanced in all our relationships.
The Prophet ﷺ was the role model for husbands on how to treat wives and not once in his life did he subject his wives to domestic abuse or violence. A Hadith by him reasserts this very fact where he says that the one who abuses his wife is not among the best Muslims.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi delves on the concept of sending Salat upon Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
“Indeed, Allah confers blessings upon the Prophet, and His angels [ask Him to do so]. O you who have believed, ask [Allah to confer] blessing upon him and ask [ Allah to grant him] peace.” - Surah Al Ahzab, Verse 56.
In this lecture, we can see the Shaykh touch base on the following topics:
Blessings and meanings of sending Salat upon Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
What does it mean when Allah sends His Salat upon Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
Meaning of Du'a e Ibrahim.
What are the occasions on which we are to send Salat on the Prophet ﷺ.
Allah Salat on the Rasulullah ﷺ has the following meanings:
To mention the name of Rasulullah ﷺ to exalt his honour in front of the angels.
The Mercy of Allah.
Maghfirah
To raise his ranks higher and higher in Jannah.
No other human being on the face of the planet has been qualitatively and quantitatively praised as our Prophet ﷺ at any given instance.
The one who sends one Salat on the Prophet ﷺ, Allah sends 10 Salat upon us.
Whoever recites Salat on the Prophet (SAW) 10 good deeds will be rewarded to us, 10 sins will be washed away and ten ranks will be raised in Jannah.
The worries and problems will be solved of the person who sends Salat on the Prophet ﷺ.
The angels will tell the Prophet ﷺ our name when we send Salat upon the Prophet ﷺ.
The one who sends Salat on the Prophet ﷺ will have the path of Jannah be made easy to attain for him.
As we dive into the final video on Ali Ibn Abi Talib RA, Shaykh Yasir Qadhi packs in various Hadith and sayings of this great Khalifa of Islam and also details are shared on the death of Ali RA.
Although Ali enjoyed the staunch support of his people,Alī RA authority was weakened during the last two years of his Khilafat. A number of prominent Muslims even met in Adrūh with the thought of deposing both Alī and Muʿāwiyah and appointing Abdullāh as the next Khalifa.
The Khārijites had made plans for the assassination of Alī, Muʿāwiyah, and ʿAmr ibn al-ʿAṣ. This decision was met with success as Ali RA was struck in the back of the head with a poisoned sword while praying in the Masjid of Kufa. He died two days later and was buried in Al-Najaf.
We are also made to understand various Hadiths with regards to Ali Ibn Abi Talib RA:
Narrated by Abu Hazim:
A man came to Sahl bin Sad and said, "This is so-and-so," meaning the Governor of Medina, "He is calling 'Ali bad names near the pulpit." Sahl asked, "What is he saying?" He (i.e. the man) replied, "He calls him (i.e. 'Ali) Abu Turab." Sahl laughed and said, "By Allah, none but the Prophet called him by this name and no name was dearer to 'Ali than this." So I asked Sahl to tell me more, saying, "O Abu 'Abbas! How (was this name given to 'Ali)?" Sahl said, "'Ali went to Fatima and then came out and slept in the Mosque. The Prophet asked Fatima, "Where is your cousin?" She said, "In the Mosque." The Prophet went to him and found that his (i.e. Ali's) covering sheet had slipped of his back and dust had soiled his back. The Prophet started wiping the dust off his back and said twice, "Get up! O Abu Turab (i.e. O. man with the dust)."
Narrated by Ubaida:
Ali said (to the people of 'Iraq), "Judge as you used to judge, for I hate differences (and I do my best ) till the people unite as one group, or I die as my companions have died." And narrated Sad that the Prophet said to 'Ali, "Will you not be pleased from this that you are to me like Aaron was to Moses?"
Narrated by 'Uqba bin Al-Harith:
I saw Abu Bakr carrying Al-Hasan and saying, "Let my father be sacrificed for you; you resemble the Prophet and not 'Ali," while 'Ali was laughing at this.
In this video, Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi unravels details about the Kharijite group, their interactions & tensions with Ali Ibn Abi Talib RA and the statements made by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ regarding this particular group of people.
The Messenger of Allah said: They kill the Muslims and spare the idolaters. If I live to see them I will kill them like the killing of (the people of ‘Aad). [Bukhari and Muslim]
Ibn Taymiyyah writes:
The Kharijite sect was the first to declare Muslims to be unbelievers because of their sins. They charged as unbelievers whoever disagreed with their innovations and they made lawful the spilling of blood and the taking of wealth. This is the condition of the people of innovation, that they invent some religious innovation and then they excommunicate whoever disagrees with them concerning it. Rather, the people of the Sunnah and the community follow the Book and the Sunnah and they obey Allah and His Messenger and follow the truth. They have mercy upon the creation.

The Khawarij revolted against the authority of Ali RA after he agreed to arbitration with Muawiyah I, to decide the succession to the Khilafat following the Battle of Siffin. The Khawarij opposed arbitration as a means to choose a new ruler on the grounds that "judgement belongs to Allah alone". They considered arbitration a means for people to make decision while the victorious was determined by Allah. A Khariji later assassinated Ali RA.
More facts about them are divulged in the talk. Please do listen intently.
As we delve into the talk, Shaykh YAsir Qadhi makes us acquainted with the circumstances leading to this battle, the incidents that transpire and what was the aftermath of this battle.
The Battle of Siffin took place between Ali RA, the fourth of the Rightly Guided Caliphs, and Muawiyah bin Abu Sufyan RA, the governor of Damascus, who opposed the caliphate of Ali RA. The Battle took place in Siffin- east of ar-Raqqa in the basin of Euphrates.
The warring parties camped themselves at Siffin for more than 100 days alternating between negotiations due to lack of interest in fighting. Then due to failure of compliance between the armies, a war was waged for three days between the Iraqis under Ashtar's command and the Qurrā', in Ali's RA army.Ali RA boasted of an army of 80,000 men, including 70 Companions who participated in the Battle of Badr, 70 Companions who took oath at Hudaibiya, and 400 prominent Ansars and Muhajirin while Muawiyah had a fleet of 120,000 Syrians.
This battle finally culminated in the legendary appearance of Muʿāwiyah’s troops with copies of the Qurān on their weapons as an indication to let God’s word decide the conflict. ʿAlī agreed to bring the matter to arbitration on the basis of the Qurʾān and delegated Abū Mūsā al-Ashʿarī as his representative, while Muʿāwiyah sent ʿAmr ibn al-ʿĀṣ.
Please do watch the video to find out how the battle ended and what was the greatness in this arbitration.
Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi continues to cover the Caliphate of Ali Ibn Abi Talib RA and goes into the story of the "Battle of Jamal," the very first civil war in Islam, famously associated with tensions between Aisha RA and Ali RA.
The Battle of the Camel or Battle of Jamal took place at Basra, Iraq between allies to Ali RA -Ali and Harith ibn Rab'i and the allies to Aisha RA - Talha ibn Ubaydullah, Zubayr ibn al-Awwam
And Marwan ibn al-Hakam. The bone of contention arose from the fact that Aisha RA opposed Ali's status as Khalifa on the basis that he had not tried to find out the culprit behind the assassination of Uthman Ibn Affan RA.
The battle procures its name from the camel ridden by Aisha RA. Ali RA blamed Aisha RA due to the aftermath of the warfare and asked her brother - Muhammad ibn Abi Bakr to take her to Basra where she stayed for a few days before heading to Medina.
For more such explicit details, do watch the video.
Based on Shaykh al Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, Shaykh Dr Yasir Qadhi elaborates explicitly about the ten factors that save Muslims from Jahannam or Hell Fire.
These are as follows:
Tawbah - If one feels guilty he needs to make Tawbah. Allah created us so that we can make Tawbah and appeal to His Mercy. The one who makes Tawbah is as if he has never committed the sin.
Istighfaar - This is a verbal manifestation of the Tawbah. Allah keeps forgiving those who keep asking Him for forgiveness.
Good Deeds - Good deeds expiate evil deeds.
Du’a and Istighfaar of other believers.
Calamities, trials, tribulations, grief and anguish - If we exhibit Sabr in the wake of trials and tribulations, we earn forgiveness in the Hereafter.
Punishment of the Grave - The punishment of the grave will act as Kaffara for us and we will be saved eventually.
Punishments of the Day of Judgment - For some Muslims, the suffering of the Day Of Judgment will be an expiation.
Good deeds gifted to the deceased by the living
The intercession of the Prophet ﷺ - Whoever gets it will go to Jannah. The Prophet ﷺ said that whoever makes the Du’a after Adhan is bound to get his attention.
Allah’s Mercy on the Day of Judgment.
In this video, Shaykh Yasir Qadhi uncovers the circumstances and the situations that transpired before eventually culminating into the election of Ali Bin Abi Talib RA as the Khalifa after the death of Uthman Ibn Affan RA.
In the discussion that follows, we gather information that a group of the companions of the Prophet ﷺ - Talha RA and Zubair RA, went to Ali RA and offered to swear allegiance to him. It was met with complete refusal and an offer was made instead to swear allegiance to one of them and to serve as his Wazir.
Eventually, in the wake of their unified pressure and his duty toward Islam, Ali RA submitted himself to take the oath of allegiance. The people swore allegiance to him in unison.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi delves deeply into the concept of standing firm on the principles of Islam - primarily, equality.
When the elite of the Quraysh requested for a change in the clause of Islam which was to get rid of Bilal RA, Ibn Masud RA, Suhaib Ibn Roomi RA and other non Arabs from the sitting in which the elites would be housed, they cited a possible chance of accepting of Islam by the elites like Mutim Ibn Adi.
A discussion ensued in Dar Al Arqam. Should a compromise be put into place for this principle clause? What was the outcome at this gathering? Listen intently to discover the happenings there.
The pomp and arrogance of the elites could not win over the heart of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and the piety of the ordinary people. The Prophet ﷺ openly declared that His Lord, Allah SWT has said that he will be amongst the wrongdoers if he obliges to this clause thus, outright rejecting the elites.
Shaykh Dr Yasir Qadhi acquaints us with his state of mind regarding the horrific bombing incident near Masjid an Nabawi in Medina in the month of Ramadan and on the last of the odd nights. He is in a state of shock as to how someone could indulge in a demeaning act of such lowness and words fail him.He is appalled at the state of mind of the bomber who had the audacity to attempt to harm the city of Madinah which is the city of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.
Madinah is the city that Allah chose for the Prophet ﷺ to do Hijra, to plant the tree of Islam, the forbearer of the Revelations of Allah and much more. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Madinah is sacred between the two mounts of Ayr and Thawr. Whoever causes any deviation or helps any deviation shall incur the curse of Allah, and the curse of the angels, and the curse of all of mankind! Not a single obligatory or nafl good deed shall be accepted of him."
The Shaykh begs Allah to protect the people of Madinah and to protect the Ummah from such misdeeds and straying away from the pure religion of Islam. He asks of Allah to guide everyone to the ultimate truth of Islam and stay clear of deviation and remain steadfast in this quest of not straying ever. Aameen.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi delves into the topic of the Greatest or Grandest Name of Allah (Ism-Allah Al-Adham).
There are a few authentic Hadith which mention the Greatest Names of Allah:
The Prophet ﷺ saw somebody make Dua and said "You have asked Allah with His Grand Name, this is the Name if asked using it, Allah will grant and Dua is answered."
A person made Dua and the Prophet ﷺ said "This man has invoked Allah's Grand Name, when it is used, Allah responds and when Dua is made, Allah gives"
The Prophet ﷺ said: "The grand name with which when Dua is made,it is granted is found in 3 Surahs - Baqarah, Ale Imran and Taha"
The Prophet ﷺ said the Grand Names were Ar-Rahman, Ar-Raheem and Hayyul Qayyum.
It is beneficial to say all of the Names at once to ensure nothing is skipped by saying - "Al-Ahad, As-Samad, Al-Mannan, Al-Bari, Dhul Jalali Wal Ikram, Al-Hayy Al-Qayyum.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi delves into explicit detail regarding the names Al-Fattah and Khairul-Fatihin which are one of the many Names of Allah SWT.
This name occurs once in the Qur'an - Al Fattah. Fataha means opening and it also means a victory and also means judgement.
The following meanings are implied from this particular Name:
All doors of Allah’s Mercy are opened.
Allah is the best Judge.
Whoever places the trust in Allah, He will make a way out for them from ways he didn't expect.
Al Fattah is used in times of difficulty and troubles.
Our Tawakkul and Yaqeen can reach infinite heights when he hear and invoke this Name of Allah.
Shaykh Dr Yasir Qadhi delves upon the opposite and complementary pairs of the Names of Allah SWT. The Names of Allah occurs in pairs most of the time. Together, they embody the Perfection of Allah.
The following are the opposites:
Al-Awwal (The Pre-Eternal), Al-Aakhir (The Last)
Ad-Dhahir (The Clear/Evident), Al-Batin (The Hidden/Concealed)
Al-Mubdi (The One who Begins), Al-Muweed (The One who Continues)
Al-Mueez (The One who gives Honor) , Al-Mudheel (The One who Removes Honor)
Al-Hayy (The One who is Perfect in Life), Al-Qayum (The One who gives Life)
Al-Ghani (The One who has no need of anyone), Al-Kareem (The One who provides for all)
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi discusses the name of Allah that is Al Wahhab.
The name occurs 3 times in the Qur'an and comes from the word Wahaba, which means to give (as gift) to somebody else something you own and without wanting anything back in return. Al-Wahhab gives and continuously gives what is His to us from His Generosity.
Since Allah is Al Wahhab, He gives without asking. What happens when we actually ask Allah? Shaykh Yasir Qadhi answers.
A Halal Dua is responded in 3 ways:
What we ask is given to us.
What we ask, Allah stalls it since it was not beneficial at the time or to save us from a disaster.
Allah grants us an even better gift on Yawm Al Qiyamah.
Thus, the Name of Allah Al Wahhab should be invoked to achieve the greatest and highest of everything because it will release spiritual and family blessings.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi delves on the Name of Allah which is Al Afuww. This means that Allah overlooks and neglects a sin committed by us as if it never took place and overlooks it as if it never happened.
Al Afuww is mentioned 5 times in the Qur'an. Allah being Al Afuww necessitates our deepest gratitude and thanks to Allah.
The best example of exhibition of Afuww is seen in the story of the slander of Aisha RA. Abu Bakr RA, her father had a relative by the name of Mistah bin Uthatha who was being helped by Abu Bakr RA in terms of monetary relief. But he was the prime candidate involved in this demeaning act against his daughter. When Abu Bakr RA heard of this, he was dejected and resorted to cutting off all ties with him in every way.
But Allah SWT revealed verses of Surah Nur relieving her from the accusation and in verse 22 of Surah Noor Allah revealed: ‘And let not those among you who are blessed with graces and wealth swear not to give (any sort of help) to their kinsmen, Al-Masakin (the poor), and those who left their homes for Allah’s Cause. Let them pardon and forgive. Do you not love that Allah should forgive you? And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.’
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi discusses the Names of Allah - At-Tawwab and Qabil At-Tawb.
The name At Tawwab has been mentioned 11 times in the Qur'an and it is paired the most times with Ar Raheem.
Tawbah is obligatory upon us and should be adopted mandatorily. Allah does not place a barrier on our Tawbah and hence, sincere repentance is the key to absolve us of our sins and misdeeds.
What does the Name At Tawwab entail?
The One who blessed us with the concept of Tawbah or coming back to Allah. It is the best blessing that we have been gifted with.
The One who blesses with coming back to him.
Allah accepts our Tawbah and forgives us.
Allah will continually forgive us. A genuine Tawbah forgives all.
Tawbah brings us back to where we should be.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi discusses the names of Allah - Al-Khaliq, Al-Baari and Al-Musawwir which are so beautifully harmonised together.
The Name Al Khaliq occurs at least 8 times in the Qur'an.
What does Al Khaliq entail?
Creator of living and inanimate objects
Allah’s khalq does not require any time and effort.
Allah’s creation wills it into being - Kun faya kun
Allah creates when he wishes to create, how he wishes to create, what he wishes to create.
The name Al Bari occurs once in Qur'an. What does it mean?
The One who brings out the creation into reality.
The One who has made the same creation, each one different from the other.
The One who has created the creation such that they can heal themselves.
The Name Al Musawwir means the One who gives shape to the creation.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi delves upon the meaning of two of the Names of Allah - Al Kareem and Al Akram.
The meaning of Karam is that act of extreme generosity that invokes goodness within yourself about giving. Al Kareem is the One who gives without asking anything in return and gives without reason or gives without being asked. He gives to all and doesn’t concern Himself whether the one who is receiving is righteous or not, a believer or not.

This atrocity should not be encountered with unnecessary explanations and apologies as we were not a part of it to begin with. Islam has a very thorough moral and ethical foundation and hence, we cannot be made to be a part of this nuisance.
We as Muslims need to exercise extra precaution and care when it comes to these matters and should take steps to overcome these untoward happenings in our lives. Ali RA had no ill will towards Abu Bakr RA and this statement is the crux of the talk in the video above. [Musnad Ahmad]
Jabir RA reported that funeral of a man was brought before the Prophet ﷺ that he may lead the funeral salah. But he did not pray over it. Someone said: "O Messenger of Allah, we have never seen you neglect the salah over anyone before this". He said: "He bore hatred for Uthman, so Allah is angry with him.”
[Sunnah Tirmidhi: 3729]
Ibn Umar (RA) reported that Allah’s Messenger ﷺ mentioned a fitnah (trial), He said, "This innocent one will be killed in that, referring to Uthman bin Affan RA."
[Sunan Tirmidhi: 3728]
May Allah have mercy on Uthman RA. We shall be forever grateful to him for being steadfast and keeping the door of fitna closed and secured for however long he could. May Allah grant Jannah to his wife, his servants, Hasan RA and the unnamed Sahaba and citizens of Medina who defended him till the last day. Ameen.
In this video, Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi steps into the final league of the assassination of Uthman Ibn 'Affan RA.
We are transported into that period when there is an altercation of sorts between Uthman RA and the rebels and how Uthman ceaselessly reminds them about the various deeds accomplished successfully by him and also how the Prophet ﷺ himself has given him his allegiance.
Attempts were made by Ali Ibn Talib RA, Abdullah Ibn Salam, Abu Hurayra, Ibn Umar, Hassan ibn Ali and Marwan Ibn Al Hakam RA to avert a disaster and in the best interest of the Muslim Ummah. But nothing seemed to work and all attempts at reconciliation reached a dead end.
The final part of the video divulges details on the eventual death of Uthman Ibn Affan RA and numerous facts are elucidated . Some of these that would be beneficial to share are as follows:
The night before his death, Uthman RA saw the Prophet ﷺ, Abu Bakr RA and Umar RA in a dream, where the Prophet ﷺ said "break your fast with us". So Uthman RA fasted that day and told his wife Nailah that today he would meet the Prophet ﷺ.
On Friday 12th of Dhul Hijjah, 35 AH, Uthman RA insisted all the Sahabah to leave the house. He opened up his door and began to recite the Qur’an which led to people barging into his room. They indulged in holding and pulling his beard and eventually striking him with a stick. One among them struck Uthman RA with a sword, which caused his hand to be cut off and blood to spill onto the verse of the Quran “Fasayakfi Kahumullah” (And Allah will take care of them for you).
Uthman RA said to them “Woe to you, that was the first hand that wrote down the Qur’an down”. The rebels continued until Uthman RA was struck on the neck and that blow eventually led to his demise.
Uthman RA was buried in the Baqi’. His death sparked the formation of two separate groups of people - the Khawarij and Shi’a.
In this video, Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi uncovers more details on the assassination of Uthman Ibn 'Affan RA. in this talk, details are shared on the treachery that was meted out against the Khalifah by groups that arrived from Egypt, Basra and Kufa that was attempted to set into action a resignation.
Various conditions were set forth by these people and Uthman RA sent Ali RA to negotiate and bring these to the fore. Shaykh Yasir elaborates on these.
Three positions are discussed in this talk regarding the letter that was sent by Uthman RA more of which can be learnt from the video above.
In the remaining part of the video, Shaykh Yasir elaborates on the events that transpired between the rebels hoisted outside Uthman RA home and himself and what was the result of this.
In this video, Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi delves about the assassination of Uthman Ibn 'Affan RA and also shares with us the numerous complaints that were made against the third Caliph.
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ had made predictions pertaining to the trials between the Sahabas and numerous hadith support these statements as have been shared with us by the Shaykh.
A significant one among these is a statement made by Hudhaifa RA who says - "The start of the trials is the murder of Uthman, and the end of it is when the Dajjal comes"
Next, Shaykh Yasir analyses the imploring conditions that led to the assassination of Uthman IBn Affan RA and enlists the magnanimously overblown and convoluted complaints registered against the Khalifa.
Prominent amongst these are - burning of the Mushafs, lack of participation in Battle of Badr, fleeing the battle of Uhud, preventing people of Madinah from using public land for pasture, performing 4 rak'ahs instead of 2 at Mina during Hajj and many more. Each complaint brings to the fore the reasons behind these doings which is explicitly dealt with by Shaykh Yasir Qadhi.
In this enlightening video, Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi attempts a detailed discussion on the assassination of Uthman Ibn 'Affan RA while also encompassing important facts relating Abu Dharr Al-Ghifari.
To summarise the above talk, we gather information on Abu Dharr Al Ghifari and the circumstances that led him and his entire tribe to accept Islam. We understand about his contribution in the Battle of Tabuk.
Abu Dharr is considered to be among the four pillars for Twelve Shia's. Abu Dharr was a man that led a life of simplicity , truthfulness and completely abided by what Allah had ordered upon us and had told us to beware of in Surah Taubah of the Noble Qur'an. Similar such anecdotes and incidents are shared by the Shaykh on Abu Dharr which are really worth listening to.We are also explicitly made aware of Abu Dharr’s death.
Some misconceptions regarding the treatment of Uthman Ibn Affan RA towards Abu Dharr are explicitly elaborated and one should also make himself aware of the same in order to avoid greater harm.
In this video, Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi enlists and explicitly explains the accomplishments of Uthman Ibn 'Affan RA.
Some that deserve a fair mention amongst many are the discussions on the political conquests of Uthman RA (Sassanian empire, Azerbaijan, Turks, Russian Republic). Many more can be heard in the above video.
Perhaps, the potentially significant accomplishment has to be the uniting of the entire Muslim Ummah via a single Mushaf (compilation and preservation of the Noble Qur'an) which is used till date by Muslims the world over. He maintained the "ahruf" [wording] and dialect of the tribe of Quraysh in this Mushaf.
