Yasir Qadhi was born in Houston, Texas and completed his primary and secondary education in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. He graduated with a B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Houston, after which he was accepted as a student at the Islamic University of Madinah.
After completing a diploma in Arabic, he graduated with a B.A. from the College of Hadith and Islamic Sciences.
Thereafter, he completed a M.A. in Islamic Theology from the College of Dawah, after which he returned to America and completed his doctorate, in Religious Studies, from Yale University. Currently he is teaching at Rhodes College, in Memphis, TN.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi commences this video delving into the life and times of another great Sahaba,Abdullah Ibn Umar RA, the son of the second Caliph of Islam, Umar Ibn Al Khattab RA and Zaynab Bint Madhun.
The most striking feature and noble trait that merited Ibn Umar RA was his generosity, asceticism and piety all encompassed into a magnanimous example of neutrality and unbiasedness. He could always face people with the absolute truth even when he was getting opposed in the wake of oppression with an unwavering attitude. His behaviour towards the Hujjaj is an example enough to prove this aspect of Ibn Umar RA.
He was a man who considered wealth only a means to satisfy the bare necessities of life and never indulged in exuberance, extravagance and simplicity the estimated value of all his belongings stood at no more than a hundred dirhams, which showed that anything beyond a meagre value was instantly given away as charity.
An interesting illustration of his simplicity is elucidated in the following incident. One of his acquaintances from Khurasan once brought him a fine and elegant thawb:"I have brought this thawb for you from Khurasan," he said. "It would certainly bring coolness to your eyes. I suggest that you take off these coarse clothes you have and put on this beautiful thawb.""Show it to me then," said Abdullah and on touching it he asked: "Is it silk?" "No, it is cotton," replied his friend. For a little while, Abdullah Ibn Umar RA was pleased. Then he pushed away the thawb and said: "No! I am afraid for myself. I fear that it shall make arrogant and boastful. And God does not love the arrogant boaster."
Abdullah Ibn Umar RA participated in every battle starting from the Battle of Khandaq. Abdullah bin Umar RA had the most prestigious and coveted position in the wake of Tafsir, Fiqh and the Hadith. He has narrated 2630 hadiths, thus, entailing his dominance as the narrator of the most Hadiths second only to Abu Hurayrah RA.
Abdullah Ibn Umar RA was once sleeping in the mosque when he dreamt that two angels took him to Hell and he began to say “I take refuge in Allah from Hell. I take refuge in Allah from Hell. I take refuge in Allah from Hell. Then an angel met us and told me not to be afraid. He then told them to leave me.” Hafsa RA, who was married to the Prophet SAW narrated one of his dreams to the Prophet SAW who told her: "Abdullah is a good man. I wish he prayed the night prayers." Post that conversation, Abdullah Ibn Umar RA hardly sleep and spend most of his lifetime in prayers and fasting.
Abdullah Ibn Umar left for his heavenly abode in 73 H at the age of 86 years.
This video by Shaykh Yasir enamors us with a deep understanding on the life and times of greatest Sahaba, Abdullah Ibn Masud RA.
Abdullah Ibn Masud was one of the earliest converts to Islam, the most knowledgeable when it came to Quranic recitation and the founder of the earliest Madrasas - The Kufa Madrasa- which produced distinguished luminaries, chief amongst whom was Abu Hanifa (rahimahullah). He is attributed with short stature, thin body, very dark skin and having a sparse beard.
He as also the first to have recited the Holy Qur'an by reciting Surah Rahman publicly in front of the Kaaba which was a huge step in that time with the Quraysh revolting every move made in the way of Islam. He was penalised heavily by being beaten and bruised badly but that did not deter him the least and he vowed to recite the Qur'an in the same place the next day no matter what the result. Abdullah Ibn Abbas RA had the ultimate prestige of having ended the life of Abu Jahl in the battle of Badr.
The first meeting with the Prophet ﷺ was an interesting one and he quotes: I was a young shepherd boy responsible for the sheep of Uqbah lbn Abu Mu’ait. The Prophet ﷺ once came with Abu Bakr and said, ‘O boy, do you have milk for us to drink?’ and I said, ‘I can’t let you drink their milk.’ The Prophet ﷺ said, ‘Do you have a virgin sheep that has never mated with a male?’ I said, ‘Yes’ and brought it to them. The Prophet ﷺ caught it and stroked its udder and prayed to Allah till the udder filled. Abu Bakr brought him a concave rock into which he milked the sheep. Abu Bakr drank the milk, and then after that the Prophet said to the udder, ‘Shrink,’ and it did. I went to the Prophet after this incident and said to him, ‘Teach me this kind of talk.’ The Prophet ﷺ said, ‘You are already a learned boy.’
Eventually, thus, it came as no surprise when he was so mesmerized with the Prophet ﷺ that he earned himself the trust and companionship of the Messenger of Allah SAW in every walk of life, for instance, he would accompany him in all his journeys and expeditions,Waking the Prophet ﷺ, carrying the Prophet's staff, siwak, slippers, bedroll, and water for purification amongst many other chores. It is said that he bore marked resemblance to the Prophet ﷺ in his traits and character. Thus, he was awarded with the nicknames of Saheb-e-Siwak (bearer of the siwak), Saheb-e-Nalain (bearer of the slippers), Saheb-e-Mutahara (bearer of the water) and also Saheb-e-Wisadah (bearer of the bedroll).
There are many Hadith which were narrated with Abdullah Ibn Masud as reference. The Prophet ﷺ said, 'Learn the Qur'an from four people, Abdullah Ibn Masood RA, Salim Maula Abi Huzaifah RA, Ubayy Ibn Kaab RA and Muaz Ibn Jabal RA.' The Prophet has also said, 'Read the Qur'an in the same manner as Abdullah Ibn Masood teaches.'
Umar RA once said: 'One night the Messenger of Allah was having a conversation with Abu Bakr RA about the situation of Muslims. I was with them. When the Prophet ﷺ left, we left with him also and as we passed through the mosque, there was a man standing in Prayer whom we did not recognize. The Prophet stood and listened to him, then turned to us and said,"Whoever wants to read the Qur'an as fresh as when it was revealed, then let him read according to the recitation of Ibn Umm Abd." After the Prayer, as Abdullah Ibn Masood رضى الله تعالى عنه sat making supplications, the Prophet said, "Ask and it will be given to you. Ask and it will be given to you."this showed us that Abdullah Ibn Masud was the epitome of perfection in the Qirat Al Qur'an.
For more such amazing anecdotes and stories, do listen to the video intently and be enlightened.
It is reported in the Sahih of Imam Muslim that one day our Prophet Muhammad(S) was once sitting on one of the houses of Medinah. He looked around and said to the Sahabas: Do you see what I'm seeing They said What oh Messenger of Allah The Prophet answered: I see trials and tribulations falling upon your houses like the drops of rain. The frequency, the quantity will affect everybody
In another Hadith, our Prophet(S) said that towards the end of time, trials would become repetitive by nature. Every time a trial/calamity would come, the believers would become scared and terrified. They will say that we cannot pass this trial. The Prophet(S) said Allah will open up the doors and let it go away. Then another will come, they will say "This is my destruction" and so on and so forth.
Nowadays when we look at how many incidents are taking place, how many issues that are rising day by day. We can see the difference of the how the world was before and what it has become now!
Shaykh Dr Yasir Qadhi divulges various pointers when it comes to the importance of family ties in Islam in relation to the Ayah from Surah An Nisa below where Allah says:
‘O mankind, fear your Lord, who created you from one soul and created from its mate and dispersed from both of them many men and women. And fear Allah, through whom you ask one another, and the wombs. Indeed Allah is ever, over you, an Observer.’
This Ayah clearly implores us to seek Taqwa in Allah through whom alone you are provided with worldly necessities. The providers of these necessities are more often than not one’s immediate family. Hence, it is of supreme importance and paramount that we take care of our family no strings attached. Just as are vigilant of the rights of Allah, so should we be aware and vigilant of the rights of the family.
Hence, it can be concluded that both go hand in hand and should be handled efficiently and effectively. Our family has a high status and importance, second to Allah. And within the family, the one whose rights supersedes everyone else’s is that of the parents.
Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi acquaints us with the blessings and virtues of being good to family & relatives. He also provides us with practical tips to deal with difficult family members.
The concept of the term ‘family', its composition and the stature of a family is illustrated explicitly in this video.
Of the people whom Allah has cursed in the Qur'an is cutting off from one’s family is one of the things that invites Allah Lanah which is worse than His Adhaab. It is the worst punishment of Allah.
What is the meaning of fulfilling the ties of kinship? It means to remain connected with your extended family in such a way that is acceptable and in the conforms of the tradition and culture of your society. It is also Mustahab to give Zakah to your extended family. We should also show love and compassion as one deems fit to our family as it has been validated in the Shariah.
Born To Die - a talk by Sheikh Yasir Qadhi. It's a frightening title isn't it? But there really is nothing to be frightened about. Certainly not once you've listened and absorbed the information imparted to you.
Despite what the movies portray, there is no immortality on this Earth. All that breathes must leave but what you need to know and then constantly be in a state of remembrance is that YOU are in control of what you leave behind - family, deeds, legacies.
Do you plan to leave an everlasting legacy like that of Imam Bukhari whose writings are referenced daily till today? Imagine for a moment that you are leaving behind a legacy that continues, in fact persists in reaping rewards for you even after you've left this earthly abode. Wouldn't that be fantastic?
Then comes the next question-are we required in Islam to leave legacies? If yes, then what types of legacies do we leave? The answers, explanations and proof to support all this and more is addressed by Sheikh Yasir Qadhi in this profound talk Born To Die.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi provides a brief insight on what the goals of Ramadan were, and what we should carry forward beyond Ramadan for the rest of the year.
One of the main purposes of Ramadan is to reacquaint us with the beauty and the sweetness of worshipping Allah SWT. The level of our Iman is at an all time high and nothing is greater than worshipping Allah.
Yet another blessing of Ramadan is community. The pulse of the Ummah is strong even as we are surrounded by trials and tribulations. Ramadan should also make us appreciate the word of Allah - The Qur'an.
What have I got from the month of Ramadan? Will I continue to taste those same blessings that I acquired during Ramadan? These are some of the questions we should ponder upon and reinstate that high level of Iman that we have so beautifully achieved during Ramadan.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi elaborates on the Islamic principle of Qadr and why we believe in Qadr.
The belief of Qadr is based on 2 premises - firstly, Allah is in control of everything and the second is that Allah is Ar Rahman. These two pillars are mentioned in numerous verses of the Qur'an and in various Ahadith.
There are many benefits to believe in Qadr:
Our heart achieves a sense of peace and contentment.
It leads to optimism and we look at the bright side and know that there is some wisdom in any difficulty upon you.
It brings about a sense of generosity towards the orphans and the poor within ourselves.
It makes the Muslim brave. No benefit or adversity can befall you except that Allah has willed for it to happen and not in the hands of anyone else.
It brings a sense of Tawakkul and strong Iman within oneself.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi elaborates on the concept of Qadr as discussed in Surah Ad-Dukhan verses 1-3.
Laylatul Qadr is referenced twice in the Qur'an - Surah Al Qadr and in Surah Ad Dukhan. Allah describes this blessed night as the night on which every matter and command will be decided.
One of the fundamentals of Iman is to believe in Qadr. We do not try to unravel the mystery of Qadr because that amounts to rejecting our faith.
Allah announces to the angels about the aspects regarding Qadr:
Allah wrote the Qadr 50000 years.
When Allah extracted the awrah of Adam AS, it was decided by Him who is going to Heaven and Hell.
When Allah blows the Ruh into a zygote, his fate is decided - his gender and his Rizq.
Nothing changes Qadr other than Dua and hence, it is absolutely essential that we stand in prayers and make Dua for the best Qadr on Laylatul Qadr.
In this lecture, Sh. Dr. Yasir Qadhi discusses some of the blessings and virtues of being patient in times of hardship, difficulties and trials.
Presented during Ramadan on June 9, 2017 @ Memphis Islamic Center
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi delves into one of the themes of Surah Yaseen - the importance of and taking advantage of time.
Allah has asked us to ponder over the miracle of time. Time is one of the incomprehensible aspects of our life. Thus, we should take ample advantage of time if we wish to be guided. Seize the free time before it is gone.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi elaborates on the dangers of idle talk and how to protect one's tongue as referenced in verse 63 of Surah Al-Furqan.
The importance of guiding the tongue against vain talk is illustrated in the fact that it is a sign of believers. The Prophet ﷺ warned against the dangers of vain talk. When the tongue is involved in sin, it demonstrates the filth of the heart.
Things to avoid with your tongue:
We should leave anything that is not our business - gossiping
To mention something negative about a person in his absence - backbiting
Slander
Lying
Vulgarities and curse words
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi delves into the beauty and blessings of praying the Tahajjud (Qiyam Al-Layl) as mentioned in the Quran and Sunnah, and as it relates to verse 79 of Surat Al-Isra.
The best Salat after the Fard prayer is the Tahajjud. The Prophet ﷺ encouraged to pray Tahajjud as is narrated in many Hadith.
The window for Tahajjud is the time after Salat ul Isha till the Adhan of Salat ul Fajr.
The following are the benefits of praying Tahajjud:
It is the manner of the righteous people of all times.
It brings you closer to Allah.
It prevents you from committing sins.
Our sins will be forgiven.
It removes the diseases from your body.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi illustrates the 9 blessings of giving Zakah, as described in the Quran and Sunnah. We are also acquainted with some of the dangers of not giving Zakah.
Linguistically, Zakah means to purify our wealth and to grow the remaining wealth in order to increase Zakah.
There are 9 main blessings of Zakah:
Increase our wealth.
It causes our wordly distresses to be minimised and It averts calamities.
It is a proof of one’s Iman.
The highest level of believers in Jannah are those who are eager and continuous in giving Zakah.
Allah accepts our Zakat even before we hand it out to the poor and needy.
Zakat dissolves and extinguishes the wrath of Allah.
It protects us from Jahannam.
It allows us to enter into the Rahmah of Allah.
Dangers of not giving Zakah:
It sets the essence of the signs of hypocrisy creeping in.
It takes everything from us and removes Barakah.
Allah will stop sending rain and droughts will set in.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi delves into the need of building a relationship with the Quran via constant and frequent recitation.
The verses referenced are verses 57-58 of Surah Yunus where Allah SWT says (to the effect) :“O mankind, there has to come to you instruction from your Lord and a healing for what is in the breasts and guidance and mercy for the believers. Say, "In the bounty of Allah and in His mercy - in that let them rejoice; it is better than what they accumulate."
The Fadhl of Allah is the Prophet (SAW) and the Rahmah of Allah is the Qur'an. To recite the Qur'an is a sign of Iman. The one who recites the Qur'an fluently is with the noble angels in Heaven. The Qur'an will be a means of salvation on the Day of Judgement. According to a Hadith, the one who has perfected the recitation and memorization of the Qur'an will be placed in the highest level of Jannah.
5 beautiful adjectives used by Allah SWT to adorn the Qur'an with:
Mauidhah - Emotional advice
Shifa
Hudan
Burhan
Rahmah
To recite the Qur'an is a sign of Iman.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi elaborates on the Islamic principle of Tawakkul (reliance on Allah) as depicted in verse 51 of Surah At-Tawbah. This verse deals with the Battle of Tabuk and the great difficulties faced by the companions RA. Allah SWT said to them: (to the effect) "Say, nothing will happen to us except what Allah has decreed. Allah is our Mawlana and in Allah let the believers place their trust."
This verse sheds ample light on the relation between the servant and the Creator. We also get the benefit of Tawakkul and we realise that no predicament and agony of this world is going to affect us unless Allaha has willed it. Tawakkul is an internal aspect and it changes the way we feel about problems around us or our perception.
We should put in efforts to get that which will benefit us, make dua to Allah and not to be lazy. If we do not get what we desire, we should place our Tawakkul in Allah and firmly believe that Allah Alone is sufficient for us and whatever happens in the future is by the Will of Allah.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi provides elaborates on the Islamic principle of reconciling broken ties, bonds and kinship as exhibited in verse 63 of Surah Al-Anfal.
A secret group is permitted to be formed to bring good and that which gets the Ajar of Allah:
If one is coming together for a charity
Reconciliation between two fighting people or the one who have severed ties with their kith and kin.
According to a famous Hadith, there is something far better than Sadaqah, Siyam, and Salah and that is bringing those ties of kinship together.
More so, even though lying is Haram in all forms in Islam, it is till permitted to bring two people together who have not been on good terms.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi elaborates on the Islamic principle of commanding what is good and forbidding what is evil, as depicted in the story present in verses 163-164 of Surah Al-A'raf.
These verses are about a group of people committing sins and another group that warned them but they didn't listen. They were instead criticized for warning them because their advice was falling on deaf ears. They were told to not waste their time because they will be punished by Allah anyway in the end . but the group maintained that they were doing this so that they would have an excuse on the Day of Judgement in front of Allah SWT that they tried commanding what is good and forbidding what is evil. It is this characteristic of Muslims that sets us apart from the rest of mankind and this is why we are the best Ummah.
Allah has His La'nah is on people who do not stop each other from doing evil and who do not preach what is good, although they are very well aware about it. We should forbid evil by usage of tongue, hand and then ultimately, hate from the heart.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi elaborates on the purpose, benefits and wisdom behind stories in the Qur'an.
It is said in the books of Tafseer that one third of the Quran is Theology, one third is stories and one third is laws. Why so? It is verbatim, it has happened in reality, good stories and there are morals and wisdom in these stories. It also strengthens the Iman of mankind. It has warnings for the one who rejects Iman. Of the wisdoms of Quranic stories is that we can derive practical manifestations from the stories of Islamic principles that we can apply in our daily lives.
Surah Al-A'raaf primarily focuses on nothing but stories and comprises stories of 8 Prophets.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi provides useful insights and a beautiful commentary on verse 90-92 of Surah Al-Ma'idah, where Allah SWT tells the believers to avoid intoxicants, gambling, divination of arrows in front of the idols and idolatry to be successful in life.
Eat pure and do not eat from the impure .Every part of the flesh of human beings fed with Haram is going to Jahannum. Anything that is intoxicating in large quantities is forbidden even in small quantities. All of these forbidden items mentioned in the Quran are all filth from Shaytan.
Our Prophet ﷺ has said that Allah has cursed 10 categories with regards to alcohol - alcohol itself and all its manifestations and all aspects relating to it.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi delves on verse 147 of Surah Al-Nisa, where Allah asks the believers a rhetorical question - "What would Allah do with your punishment if you are grateful and believe?"
This Ayah lays the foundation as to why this world is one of pain and suffering and also what leads mankind to become atheists. This Ayah illustrates that there is pain and suffering because of a higher wisdom. Nothing happens without a cause and reason.
Of the causes we are in pain and suffering are as follows:
We are not thankful when we are in a blessed state.
To remove arrogance from within us.
In the humbling of ourselves when in calamity, we discover the necessity and sweetness of Dua.
We have to earn our place in Jannah with whatever meagre good we can do in this world. Allah will give you with much more than what you have earned.
To alleviate the pain of the Akhirah.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi delves on verse 103 of Surah Al-Nisa, where Allah asks the believers to establish prayer.
We as an Ummah have learnt the importance of performing Salah time and time again. There is no concept of Islam without Salah. Iman is connected to Salah. The Messenger ﷺ was called before the Almighty to reveal the revelation of Salah as opposed to the rest of the revelations which demonstrates its importance.
Umar Ibn Al Khattab RA was stabbed while praying Salat ul Fajr but he did not leave the Salah. This is his mindset even as he is facing certain death. What level of importance should we then lay on the establishment of Salah?
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi delves into an explanation of the verses 17-18 of of Surah Al-Nisa, where Allah talks about accepting the Tawbah of some and not accepting of others. We also are acquainted with the conditions for repentance or Tawbah.
When we commit sins or disobey Allah while in a state of ignorance.
We repent quickly for the sins committed. Allah shall accept the Tawbah of everyone till the pangs of death are faced.
Conditions of repentance:
We feel guilty and remorseful for the sins committed which is the essence of Tawbah.
We verbalise our forgiveness to Allah.
We should make a genuine attempt to stay away from the sins committed.
If you have harmed someone else, you have to make it up to that person as well.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi delves into a detailed explanation of verses 14 and verse 15 of Surah Al e Imran.
7 things have been made alluring to men:
Women
Children
Hoards of gold
Hoards of silver
Horses that are beautiful and well bred and well trained
Cattle
Agricultural land
Allah has made all these aspects permissible for us as long as we do not cross the limits of permissibility. These are temporary pleasures of this world and to Allah belongs the perfect conclusion. Those who are righteous are blessed with something better than all of the above and that is the attainment of Jannah. Good deeds will bring us the pleasure of Allah.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi reminds us of the blessings and sacredness of Surah Al Baqarah. It is beyond any other Surah. The comprehensiveness of the Surah is a miracle in itself.
The two fragrant Surahs al Baqarah and Aal e Imran will intercede for us on the Day of Judgement. And between these two, Surah Al Baqarah is supreme and is a blessing as said in a beautiful Hadith by our beloved Prophet ﷺ.
Holding on to Baqarah is barakah and abandoning it will be a threat - Prophet ﷺ.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi provides deep insight on the greatest verse in the Qur'an, Ayat Al Kursi - verse 255 of Surah Al-Baqarah and the occasions on which it should be recited.
It is the most blessed Ayah in the Qur'an because of the content, subject and style of the verses. It is about the Names, Grandeur and Majesty of Allah SWT. When should this magnificent Ayah be recited?
Before going to sleep every night.
If recited after every single Salah, we have been promised Jannah.
When we wake up in the morning and in the evening for protection from Shaytan.
Allah wishes ease for you:
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi delves into the verse number 185 of Surah Al Baqarah.
“Allah intends for you ease and does not intend for you hardship and [wants] for you to complete the period and to glorify Allah for that [to] which He has guided you; and perhaps you will be grateful.”
This Ayah is one of the overriding principles of our religion Islam. The Prophet ﷺ has mentioned numerous Ahadith relating to the ease in our religion.listen intently to unravel these beautiful Hadith.
Two categories of difficulty:
Little awkward but bearable - which can be practised.
Unbearable - that which is negated in Islam.
In this short Khatirah, ShaykhYasir Qadhi explores on the aspect of what comprises worship, why we worship Allah and how do we go about doing it? He delves on verse 21 of Surah Al Baqarah:
“O mankind, worship your Lord, who created you and those before you, that you may become righteous.”
Our primary and only purpose of existence is to worship Allah. Why should we worship Allah?
Because He is our Rabb - He is an entity is characterized by every characteristic that denotes perfection, majesty, awe and glory.
Allah created everything on this earth and He has blessed us with this beautiful life and hence, we should be thankful to HIm.
God consciousness and Taqwa is achieved and hence, our life is meaningful, orderly and purposeful.
The attainment of the pleasure of Allah which is the motivation of Jannah and the abstinence of sins by the fear of Jahannam.
Of the things we learn in this lecture from Shaykh Yasir Qadhi is the Fawat of missed prayer.
The Shaykh discusses the two instances when the Prophet ﷺ missed his prayers.
Also, numerous Hadith are shared to discuss the missing of Salatul Asr on one occasion in the battlefield.
We should make the prayers up in the order in which we miss the prayers if it is possible.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi divulges explicitly on the category of people who are exempted from fasting:
Woman in her Haidh (menses) and Nifas (post childbirth)
Men and women who are sick and travelling
Elderly men and women
Women who are pregnant and women who are breastfeeding
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi shares some tidbits on a Muslim’s loyalty towards his religion or his nation. Which should take precedence? When should a stand be taken?
The concept of nationalism and tribalism is discussed and we analyse it as being Islamic or un-Islamic. Can one be a member of the state and a member of the Ummah simultaneously? If yes, then what precautions ought to be taken and followed diligently?
Listen intently as Shaykh Yasir Qadhi puts all our imminent doubts to rest.
In this video by Shaykh Yasir illustrates the biography of Abdullah Ibn Abbas RA.
We are enamored by the information that we get about the blessing that Abdullah Ibn Abbas RA received from Prophet Muhammad SAW right at his birth - Haneeq- and the specialty was that it was done with the saliva of the Prophet SAW itself which was the ultimate barakah hat he could have received.
Abdullah Ibn Abbas RA is also said to have seen Jibreel AS twice though not in his original form. The privilege in question of seeing the angel in his true form was only granted to the Prophet ﷺ.
The Prophet ﷺ would often pray to Allah regarding Abdullah RA that, "O Lord, make him acquire a deep understanding of the religion of Islam and instruct him in the meaning and interpretation of things." He repeated this dua for him more often than not and with the barakah of his dua, Abdullah Ibn Abbas RA did become a beacon of light in the pursuit of knowledge.
Abdullah RA narrated the incident, "Once the Prophet ﷺ was on the point of performing wudu. I hurried to get water ready for him. He was pleased with what I was doing. As he was about to begin salah, he indicated that I should stand at his side. However, I stood behind him. When the salah was finished, he turned to me and said, 'What prevented you from being at my side, O 'Abdullah?' 'You are too illustrious and too great in my eyes for me to stand side by side with you,' I replied. Raising his hands to the heavens, the Prophet then prayed, 'O Lord, grant him wisdom.'
We also are acquainted with the dedication of Abdullah Ibn Abbas RA when he is sent by his father to learn salaah Tahajjud from the Prophet ﷺ in his house at night. For a detailed account, please do listen intently so that we are deeply humbled and grateful as to how this enthusiasm and zeal of Abdullah Ibn Abbas has benefited us immensely.
Narrated Ibn Abbas -’ I stayed overnight in the house of my aunt Maimuna bint Al-Harith while the Prophet ﷺ was there with her during her night turn. The Prophet ﷺ offered the 'Isha' prayer (in the mosque), returned home and after having prayed four rak'ah, he slept. Later on he got up at night and then asked whether the boy (or he used a similar word) had slept? Then he got up for the prayer and I stood up by his left side but he made me stand to his right and offered five rak'ah followed by two more rak'ah. Then he slept and I heard him make deep breathing sounds and then (after a while) he left for the (Fajr) prayer.’
“Be mindful of Allah, He will be mindful of you...” is another hadith narrated by Ibn Abbas RA that illustrates our true values that should be cultivated towards Allah and how all the Sahaba had set precedents in this domain with them even seeking Allah’s help and guidance on the most trivial and simplest of matters.
There is also a mention of a Hadith which illustrates how the Prophet ﷺ had made a premonition of the loss of eyesight of Abdullah Ibn Abbas RA in his final years of life.we also realise the true tafseer of Surah Nasr made by Abdullah Ibn Abbas RA when questioned about the same by Umar Ibn Al Khattab RA. this leads us to the conclusion that Ibn Abbas was truly gifted with the knowledge of Tafseer.
In this talk by Shaykh Yasir Qadhi, we get drawn into the life and times of Abdullah Ibn Abbas RA in more elaborate detail.
We are enlightened with details on the wives and children of Abbas RA.he was a handsome phis wife is most famously referred to by her kunya - Umm Fadhl but her actual name was Lubabah bint Al Harith RA. she is the second woman to have converted to Islam after Khadija RA.she had children from Abbas RA and the most prominent amongst them were - Fadhl RA, Qutham RA, Abdullah RA and Ubaydullah RA.
It has been said that in the times of Abbas RA, his family was attributed with the traits of beauty , knowledge and generosity. It was acknowledged by the people that Fadhl RA was an embodiment of beauty, Abdullah RA was an embodiment of knowledge and Ubaydullah RA was an embodiment of generosity or Taawun.
We are then divulged details on the Ghusl of Prophet SAW for his Janazah and how the sons of Abbas RA were amongst the key 4 people who were part of this prestigious moment - Fadhl RA, Quthum RA.
The sons of Abbas RA also fins another unique way of some connection with the Prophet ﷺ and that is in the way they share a unique resemblance with the Messenger of Allah. The gifted 4 people are :
Hassan RA
Jaffer Ibn Abi Talib RA
Qutham Ibn Abbas RA
Abu Sufyan Ibn Harith RA.
We also get to know the various Hadith that have been from the Abbas RA clan.
Narrated/Authority of Ibn Abbas:
The Prophet ﷺ said, "I have been ordered to prostrate on seven bones i.e. on the forehead along with the tip of the nose and the Prophet pointed towards his nose, both hands, both knees and the toes of both feet and not to gather the clothes or the hair."
In this amazing video, Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi divulges details on the life and times of Abdullah Ibn Abbas RA - the Habr of the Ummah and Tarjuman Al Quran and the status of Ahl al Bayt for the Muslim Ummah.
Shaykh Yasir commences the talk by the analysing the term Ahl Al Bayt and what has been set as the most apt meaning of this term by the lexicons. We also gather information on the extreme love and care that the Prophet ﷺ had for his family.
Ahl Al Bayt has come to include the following:
The wives of the Prophet ﷺ
The children of the Prophet ﷺ
Hassan and Hussain RA
The descendants of the Prophet ﷺ
Banu Hashim
Shaykh Yasir also goes on to divulge statements on the importance of the Ahl Al Bayt by quoting a Hadith narrated by at-Tirmidhi: “I am leaving among you that which, if you hold fast to it, you will never go astray after I am gone, and one of the two is greater than the other: the Book of Allah, which is a rope extended from heaven to earth, and my family, the people of my household (ahl bayti). We are introduced to Abu Lahab who was the uncle of the Prophet ﷺ and get acquainted with his sons Utbah and Utaybah who were married to the beloved daughters of the Prophet ﷺ - Ruqayyah RA and Umm Kulthum RA respectively. We also witness the grounds which led to the separation of these two pairs in the wake of Abu Lahab's utter disregard for the religion of Islam and how bad blood was exchanged and transpired between the sons of Abu Lahab and their wives and how the younger son used vulgar and derogatory language for his wife at the time of divorce.
The interesting fact to reckon is the daughter of Abu Lahab - Durrah bint Abu Lahab was the exact opposite of her brothers and eventually converted to Islam. She was married to Dihya ibn Kalbi who is known in history of Islam as a man of extreme beauty and whose form Jibreel AS used to take whenever he descended to the earth.
Next, we divulge into the details of the aunts of Prophet ﷺ, chief among whom is Safiyyah bint ‘Abdul Muttalib RA who was older than the Prophet ﷺ by 23 years. Shaykh Yasir Qadhi gives a short lecture at the holy city at Masjid Al Aqsa.
Mubarak (source of blessings) and Muqaddis (that which is blessed and sanctified) are the two adjectives to describe the holy land of Jerusalem in the Qur'an.
The miraculous journey of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ from Masjid Al Haram to Masjid Al Aqsa is explicitly explained for us to comprehend fully well the grand stature of this event in the history of Islam.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi points some questions and dialogues to Reverend Dr. James White, the director of Alpha Omega Community, to get some answers in the context of the religion of Christianity.
The Shaykh starts off with generic questions such as:
The Christian Doctrine of the Trinity and how it validates monotheism
Can God be a human being?
The necessity of a sacrificial death and many more such pertinent questions.
"No soul shall bear the sins of the other." - this is a Verse from the Qur'an. So theologically, what exactly is original sin? This question is also deeply delved upon and makes for an interesting listen.
The primary difference between Catholics and reformed Baptists is the next point of discussion and we are acquainted with interesting parallels.
The floor next opens for an amicable Q & A wherein numerous doubts are answered and also, new concepts, previously alien, come to the fore.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi discuss the differences between Islam and Christianity regarding theology and beliefs and the things that makes us wonderful as religions of Islam and Christianity. Also, how our communities will get along amicably is also the foundation of this discussion.
Firstly, the misconceptions regarding Interfaith families is addressed suitably. There are many other things beside theology that form the crux of one’s faith. The key is fruitful dialogue with passionate disagreement that can resolve long standing issues. We can remove the fear, distrust, hatred and suspicion in our hearts to begin building bridges between the two religions.
The speaker addresses a big issue amongst Christians - the biggest knowlege of Islam comes from channels for the Christians and it is important to understand what Islam is and what is its foundation. Shaykh Yasir makes us understand that it is important to bond with a Muslim and visit mosques to fully fathom the true basis of Islam.
The originality of the Qur'an and the scriptures of the Christians are the next topic on which light is shed. The element of human nature is completely absent in the Qur'an as it is the Words of Allah to us. But that is not the case of the scriptures of Christians. Only the sayings of the Prophet ﷺ has been preserved in various books called Hadiths. Also, Islamic history has also been recorded by humans. But the Qur'an is only the Words of Allah sent down via Angel Jibreel AS to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to be communicated to mankind.
Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi discusses in this lecture, some positives in the upcoming difficult times with the help of the light of the Qur'an and Sunnah.
Shaykh Yasir asks us to seek help from the Seerah by pondering over the incidents that transpired then and gain benefits from it. This way we can lay a strong and balanced foundation on how our attitude should be in the wake of troubles and predicaments.
One of the most traumatic incidents mentioned in the Seerah is related to the personal life of Muhammad ﷺ and this is the slander of Aisha RA. It tested everyone related to Aisha RA in the worst of ways and Allah revealed the Qur'an to clear up the entire matter. There is always good, no matter how much evil. It is the paradigm with which we view the world.
Of the wisdoms in the entire Seerah is that - it is in these very times of trauma that we easily discover Allah SWT.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi divulges numerous details regarding the stature of Jesus Christ in Islam with his name being mentioned about 25 times in the Qur'an.
Believing in Jesus is a fundamental requirement of being a Muslim in Islam. In this video, the Shaykh illustrates the similarities and differences in the way we and the Christians regard Isa AS.
We as Muslims believe that the mother of Isa AS is the holiest and the greatest woman to have walked the face of the earth. A wide variety of details are shared with us which makes us fully fathom the stature and blessedness of Maryam AS.

The Shaykh also shares various ways such that we do not devalue our monotheism. It makes for a very interesting and valuable listen.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi's lecture in this video is on the importance of leaving a legacy. Shaykh Yasir mentions that leaving a legacy is paramount and shares numerous anecdotes to make us understand legacies in Islam. It is the only thing left behind in this world once a person leaves for his abode.
Shaykh Yasir also discusses about the tragic death of Junaid Jamshed and implores us to imbibe and inculcate the qualities of goodness so that our legacy also resembles such.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi ensures us that we will be rewarded if the legacy left behind is indeed beneficial.
Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi delves into the most pertinent topic affecting us in recent times which is the injustice and transgression meted out to the innocent people by the leaders or rulers and what should be our modus operandi to dissolve the sufferings of the oppressed.
Injustice or Dhulm will never go unchecked and Allah will take into account the injustice that was meted out in this world and justice will be served. The Sunnah is full of warning against Dhulm and almost 120 verses mention Dhulm in the Qur'an simultaneously citing the punishment for the oppressors and transgressors.
The greatest Dhulm done by mankind is associating partners with Allah or indulging in Shirk.
Indulging in transgression will be met with the darknesses of anger, punishment and being deprived of Jannah.
May Allah have mercy on the Ummah and may all the sufferings in this world cease to exist.

In this video, Shaykh Yasir Qadhi divulges more details on the military genius that was Khalid Ibn Al Waleed RA, also known as Sword of Allah (Saifullah) and his contribution in the major battles.
Another controversy relating to Khalid RA that is highlighted that happened after the death of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ during the time of Abu Bakr As Siddiq RA. This is in connection with the killing of Maalik ibn Nuwayrah and the subsequent marriage to his wife, Layla .
The tactics used by Khalid RA showcasing his military acumen during various battles fought under him, for instance, sending his people to the land which was to be conquered and gather details about the layout of the land so that he would have a better understanding on how to station his troops, are divulged into and make for an interesting listen.
The next topic that is touched base on is the Battle of Yarmouk that took place under the leadership of Khalid Ibn Al Waleed RA although Abu Ubaidah RA was the chieftain. Khalid RA had been demoted from his leadership domain after the death of Abu Bakr RA and the succession of Umar Ibn Al Khattab RA. This battle was magnanimous in its stature and showcased the military prowess of Khalid RA to its maximum potential and it resulted in the attainment of more than 30% of the land under the Byzantine empire.
On his deathbed, Khalid Al-Walid’s old friend visited him which is when Khalid began to show his battle scars to him. Khalid then questioned his friend, “All of these scars of wounds and yet I am not dead from the battlefield. Why could I not have died in battle?” Khalid’s friend then replied, “When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ named you Saifullah, Sword of Allah, he predetermined that you would not fall in battle. If you had been killed by an unbeliever it would have meant that Allah’s sword had been broken by an enemy of Allah; and that could never be.”
Listen intently as we witness the greatness of this exemplary warrior, Khalid Ibn Al Waleed RA.
This video takes us on an enlightening journey highlighting the biography, lineage and family of Khalid ibn al-Waleed ibn al-Mughirah of Banu Makhzum tribe .
Al-Walid ibn al-Mughirah who was the father of Khalid ibn al-Waleed, was a renowned poet and amongst the richest people in Makkah. He is also credited with the name - Waheed because of his magnanimous act of paying the expenses for the replacement of the Ka'ba every alternate year.
In spite of all these positive traits, he had no respect and regard for the religion of Islam and always remained arrogant. He had also challenged the decision of sending the Quran to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in spite of he being the most influential member of the Quraysh. Allah had then revealed verses from Surah Zukhruf [31:32] that answered his allegation - And they said: “Why is not this Quran sent down to some great man [in terms of dignity and wealth] of the two towns (Mecca and Taif)?” Is it they who would portion out the Mercy of your Lord [regarding the Divine appointment of Muhammad to prophethood]? It is We Who portion out [between them] their livelihood in this world [let alone the exalted rank of prophethood] and We raised some of them above others in ranks so that some may employ others in their work. But the Mercy of your Lord is better than what they amass.
More such details are divulged in various parts of the video regarding the father of Khalid Ibn Waleed.
We also gather valuable information of the skills of Khalid Ibn Al-Waleed RA and how he was blessed to have been given elite training in matters of war. He had fought major battles alongside the Prophet ﷺ except Battle of Badr (reasons disclosed in this video). The Battle of the Trench was the last of Khalid's battles.
A controversy of sorts that transpired during the time of the Prophet ﷺ (when Khalid Ibn Al-Waleed had only basic knowledge of the Fiqh of warfare) was when Khalid Ibn Al-Waleed was sent to invite the Banu Jadhimah tribe to Islam. A misunderstanding occurred wherein Khalid RA mistook the words sab’ana ( Sabians) to mean that the tribe had become Sabians when in reality, they were reaffirming their acceptance of Islam. This resulted in Khalid imprisoning them and some even getting executed. It was not before long that he was stopped by Abdur Rahman bin Awf and this matter was brought to the jurisdiction of Prophet ﷺ. He was very sad because of Khalid’s actions and after having paid the blood money to the families to compensate the unnecessary killing of the converts, said repeatedly by raising his hands to Allah SWT - "O God, I am innocent of what Khalid Ibn Al-Waleed has done!"
Do listen intently and witness firsthand what an exemplary warrior Khalid Ibn Al-Waleed was!
Shaykh Dr Yasir Qadhi implores us to fully comprehend the concept and benefits of being grateful to Allah at all times.
Allah has reminded us to be conscious of Allah at all times as the blessings of Allah can never be fully enumerated. One of the purposes of our existence is the purpose of being forever grateful to Allah SWT.
The concepts of Shukr and Kufr are explicitly explained for us to fully comprehend. Shukr is at the top of the pyramid of Iman. The greatest ingratitude is to turn away from Allah and that is the greatest Kufr. Hence, Shukr and Kufr are antonyms of each other.
How do we do Shukr? There are a number of pillars in this :
Maintaining humility. Shukr necessitates humility.
To act upon the blessings in a manner befitting to please Allah.
To mention the blessings of Allah via humility and the right audience to share your blessings.
Rewards:
The Pleasure of Allah will be upon us.
Allah will lift the punishment from us.
Allah gives you more if you are thankful to Allah.
In this video, Shaykh Yasir divulges numerous details about the life and times of Saeed Ibn Zayd RA.
Saeed ibn Zaid ibn Amr ibn Nufayl RA was the son of an excellent individual named Zaid ibn Amr ibn Nufayl. He was the nephew of Al Khattab, the father of Umar RA.The reason for the respect that is binding upon him is his absolute detest for idolatry and his inability to fathom the reason for the irrelevant customs and traditions that were being followed by the Quraysh.
Once, while leaning against the Kabah, it is reported that Zaid Ibn Amr shouted:"O people of Quraysh! It is God Who has created the sheep. He it is Who has sent down rain from the skies of which they drink and He has caused fodder to grow from the earth with which they are fed. Then even so you slaughter them in names other than His. Indeed, I see that you are an ignorant folk."
Saeed ibn Zaid RA, hence, without an iota of doubt, had the roots of his father deeply embedded into him and it came as no surprise when he accepted Islam wholeheartedly.
Said ibn Zayd RA was relentless in his love and devotion for Islam and participated in all major battles, conquests and campaigns barring battle of Badr. Details on this can be gathered when we listen to Shaykh Yasir revealing them at great length in this talk above.
An excellent saying by the great sahaba is that he says, "Let me report you something that I heard from the Prophet: The Messenger of Allah said, 'If a person seizes a land that does not belong to him, that land will be wrapped around his neck on the Day of Judgment even if he is under the seventh floor of the earth. A person who dies for his property is regarded as a martyr.'
For more such beautiful Hadith, do listen to the above talk intently and come out enlightened immensely.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi delves on the 7 points of reflection on the election of Trump:
Humility - Our knowledge is so limited that nobody saw it coming and hence, we should exhibit humility.don't be so arrogant of what we know, as only Allah is the All Knowing.
Shock - We felt numb when the news came to the fore. We have to believe that Allah knows what we don't know. Only Allah knows what the future holds.
Hindsight - Looking back, we should analyse the mistakes that we committed.
Hypocrisy - pointing at Muslims on our values regarding women when they are clearly hypocritical in this regard.
Fear - The fear of Islamophobia is rampant on our minds ever since Trump has come into power. But we have to turn to Allah with strong Iman and Aqeedah in our hearts.
Action - We should now understand the importance of community activism more than ever.
Hope - we need to re instill undying faith in Allah that nothing will happen to us except that which Allah has willed for us.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi address the elephant in the room which is the difficulty in navigating challenges and struggles on a daily basis for the Muslim Ummah. The reason for this is the radicals which include extremist groups who have been angered by the transgressions of the political superpowers who have jeopardized our religion and its pureness and have made the word Jihad a word marred with doubts, terror and destruction.
Jihad in Islam translates to the types of struggles we discover and overcome to attain proximity to Allah. When the circumstances dictate necessity, a 'jihad' is physical, and at any given time, one must indulge in a spiritual 'jihad' against one's lower self.
Hence, to overcome this xenophobia and Islamophobia, we need to have renewed commitment and faith to uphold our religion and to commit ourselves to the Call of Allah, the teachings of the Prophet ﷺ, the Qur'an and similar aspects.
