Yasir Qadhi was born in Houston, Texas and completed his primary and secondary education in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. He graduated with a B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Houston, after which he was accepted as a student at the Islamic University of Madinah.
After completing a diploma in Arabic, he graduated with a B.A. from the College of Hadith and Islamic Sciences.
Thereafter, he completed a M.A. in Islamic Theology from the College of Dawah, after which he returned to America and completed his doctorate, in Religious Studies, from Yale University. Currently he is teaching at Rhodes College, in Memphis, TN.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi touches base on the science of Fiqh.
The concept of Aam and Khas related to Qur'an and Sunnah is explained explicitly citing numerous examples. The point is that there is no contradiction between the two.
Mutlaq and Muqayyad - This bears close resemblance to the concepts of Aam and Khas. Listen to the various examples to obtain a clear understanding.
Mantuq and Mafhoom - Mafhoom is the opposite of Mantuq. Examples are given aplenty. Mafhoom is only taken when it does not contradict the Fiqh.
Haqiqi and Majazi - when a word is used in a primary sense, it is called haqiqi and when it is used in metaphorical sense, it is called majazi. Allah’s attributes and names are all haqiqi.
The goal of the Shariah:
To protect the religion of Islam, essentials of life, sanity, property and one’s honour which includes children.
Those things that are important and make it easy to live but not absolutely essential.
Perfection of religion of Islam.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi delves into the topic of Fiqh and Usul Ul Fiqh (science of Fiqh).
What is Fiqh? It is the study of the physical rulings of the Sharia with their detailed evidences. What is Usool ul Fiqh? These are the procedures, rules and principles used to derive the Fiqh.
Where do we get these Usul Ul Fiqh or what are their sources?
The Noble Qur'an
The Sunnah - the various forms of Sunnah exhibited by the Prophet ﷺ. They are explained in detail
Ijmaa - unanimous consensus
Qiyas - analogy
Custom and culture
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi now divulges details on the topic of divorce.
Various steps of reconciliation can be made for the saving of a marriage such as advising one another and communicating appropriately. In case of ineffectiveness, one can resort to an open rebellion.
Types of divorce :
Sunnah way to divorce one’s wife
Bidah way of divorce
Conditional divorce
Vague divorce
What is the woman’s right in the matters of divorce? What is meant by Khula? What are the conditions of taking a Khula?
Shaykh Yasir also enlightens us about the ways a marriage is broken. Also, the term Iddat is properly explained and the terms and conditions relating to it are explicitly brought to the fore.
The next important topic for discussion that is chosen is the matter of the custodian of children in the event of a divorce? What does the Sharia state in this case? Shaykh Yasir Qadhi answers.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi gives us important information on the Jumuah and Janazah.
Before going to Jummah, taking a bath is strongly encouraged and also wearing special clothes. It is prohibited to speak while Imam is giving Khutbah and we should not let our mind wander and concentrate and have khushoo during the Khutbah.
Salatul Eid is compulsory to attend whether male or female. Timing for Eid is Salatul Duha.It is Sunnah to pray outside the community, take a path different from the initial path taken on your return, saying the Takbeer, eating something before one goes to prayer.
How to pray the Eid prayer? Listen intently to discover important details.
Next in the line for discussion is the funeral or the janazah wherein two acts are essential - washing of dead body and the funeral prayer. What are the rules to be exercised when one is washing or performing ghusl of the dead body?Shaykh Yasir answers. Salatul Janazah should be performed by the closest relative of the dead person so that there is more sincerity in Dua for the dead. But, an Imam can also do the same.
4 Takbeerat should be performed - 1st Takbeer should be succeeded by Surah Fatiha, 2nd takbeer should be succeeded by Durood on the Prophet (SAW) 3rd takbeer should be succeeded by dua for the dead and the 4th takbeer should be succeeded with immediate Salam on one side. The grave should be dug around 5 to 6 ft deep. There are the two ways to dig a grave - one is Lahd and the other is Shaq.
The reward for praying Salatul Janazah and attending Janazah is attainment of two mountains of rewards where one mountain is the size of Mount Uhud.
The Muslim should be buried as soon as possible and it should not be delayed and the dead must be buried in the same place as his death.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi divulges important details on the need of the hour - a clear understanding on the Fiqh of Zakah. He addresses the topic beautifully and we get the necessary assistance to give our Zakat as ordained.
Zakah is the fundamnetal pillar of Islam. Zakat means to purify. It is mentioned over 30 times in the Qur'an paired along with Salah. Zakat is something that we give out once every year, preferably in the blessed month of Ramadan.
Topics:
Zakat, Zakat ul Fitr and Sadaqah.
What wealth is ‘Zakatable’? - gold and silver, business commodities, livestock, agricultural produce and treasure troves.
How to give Zakah?
Stocks, mutual funds.
Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi shares his state of mind and gives us an honest opinion on the recent killing of the cartoonists in France. He also sheds light on the clear double-standards and hypocrisy that sets the undertone of the mindset of the people.
The Shaykh asks of these people as to what is the use of the 'freedom of expression' when clearly one does not even have his or her way when it comes to choosing one’s attire.
The Prophet ﷺ was sent as nothing but a source of immense love and mercy to the world, with his Seerah being standing testimony to the innumerable incidents of forgiveness and love. His honour has to be guarded with full conviction and mocking of the Prophet ﷺ is promised a punishment by Allah SWT like no other.
The Shaykh implores us to seriously ponder upon the context of violence, why it happens, why is the Seerah being placed out of context and much more. The political and social powers that influence the minds of the radicals need to be checked into place so that these untoward incidents do not see the light of the day. Islamophobia and institutionalized racism against Muslims has to stop if we are to be allowed to practise our religion in peace and tranquility.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi now discusses a major event that happened in the Seerah in the year 9 H and that is the Hajj of Abu Bakr As Siddiq RA.
When the tribe of Ta'if accepts Islam in 9H, the Prophet ﷺ makes the decision to send Abu Bakr RA with an official delegation from Madinah to Mecca. He does not perform the Hajj himself. Why so? He informs the reason being the performance of the Tawaf by the jahiliyyah in the naked state. And that is indeed a no brainer that the blessed Prophet ﷺ is not going to do Hajj when the mushriks were acting in this way.
Also we receive immense clarification on the topic of Tawaf being done in a naked state by the Jahiliyyah. Then Allah explicitly elaborates on this topic of Fahisha in the Qur'an and our doubts are put to rest.
The moment Abu Bakr RA left for Madinah, Allah revealed the first 3 pages of Surah Tawbah which were directed at the pagans of Arabia.
Another point of interest is when the Prophet ﷺ chose Ali ibn Abi Talib to take these verses and announce them to the people during Hajj along with the congregation that had left for Mecca. 300 people were chosen to go along with 25 sacrificial animals.
What are these verses ofSurah Tawbah? The Shaykh explains the meanings of the verses revealed in this time and gives a detailed Tafseer. It is definitely worth a listen.
'The verse of the sword' or the 5th verse of Surah Tawbah that was revealed became a huge point of misinterpretation and controversy. What was the issue? Shaykh Yasir answers.
Abu Bakr RA performed the Hajj along with Ali RA and they first recite Surah Tawbah. Then they make the following announcements:
No one shall enter Jannah other than a Muslim.
No one shall perform Tawaf naked.
No mushrik shall ever perform Tawaf ever again.
Was Ihram present before Islam? It is reported that the Prophet ﷺ explicitly commanded the Muslims to wear Ihram and this implies that Ihram is that which the Prophet ﷺ himself came with.
What is Sihr? What does it mean linguistically and theologically? How do magicians learn Sihr?
How can we detect if someone has Sihr (Black Magic) done on them? What is possession and exorcism? How to combat Sihr and Jinns? Shaykh Yasir Qadhi elaborates on a variety of such mind boggling topics that warrant our attention.
The Shaykh also discusses Quranic stories about Sihr. The first is the story of Musa AS. The other story is about Sulaiman AS and his power to control wind, Jinns and animals. listen intently to discover the pertinent details.
After Sulaiman AS died, the Shayateen claimed to have unlocked his powers and told that Sulaiman AS knew black magic. But Allah defended him explicitly in the Holy Qur'an. A very comprehensive explanation about the same is provided by the Shaykh.
Sihr was also done on the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and Aisha RA narrates that the Prophet ﷺ assumed that he needed to do a Ghusl thinking he had been intimate the night before but that was never the case. He also had a dream that gave him the solution of his assumption due to Sihr. What was it? What did the Prophet ﷺ do about it? Do not miss the explanation provided.
What lessons do we imbibe from the happenings with the Prophet Musa AS, Sulaiman AS and Prophet ﷺ?
Iman and Taqwa does not necessarily protect you from Sihr but can possibly minimise the impact definitely. The stronger the Iman, the lesser the impact of Sihr.
Most magic occurs by using body parts of the one on whom magic is done like hairs and nails and clothing items.
One of the main ways to combat Sihr is to make Dua continuously.
It is very helpful to know where the item is so that it can be destroyed.
Surah Al Falaq and An Nas are the most precious when it comes to combating Sihr.
The physical and psychological nature of Jinns is illustrated for us to alleviate fears in our minds. What is meant by Jinn? What are the roots of Jinns? Why do the Jinns do what they do? The mysteries surrounding these smokeless creations are elucidated briefly. The speed and strength of Jinns is mostly much stronger than man and they possess the capability to transform matter into energy and vice versa.
Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi delves into a topic which is extremely interesting and warrants an elaborate discussion. This topic is related to the real birth date of our beloved Prophet ﷺ.
As is the viewpoint of the majority of the Muslim Ummah, the birth of the Prophet ﷺ took place on the 12th of Rabi al-Awwal. But as we dig deeper into an academic perspective, we gather evidence and support text that substantiate the 2nd, 8th or 10th of Rabi al-Awwal as viable and respected birth dates than the earlier accepted one.
And even among these dates, the 8th of Rabi ul Awwal seems to stake the highest claim.
Listen intently and unravel the mystery for yourself with an explicit lecture on the same.
Shaykh Dr Yasir Qadhi discusses on a topic that needs immediate attention and awareness which is that of a Muslim Minority called ‘The Rohingya’ who inhabit the land of Burma.
The Rohingya are predominantly Muslims who are descendants of a civilization that used to have a kingdom 500 years ago, some of whom converted to Islam while the majority didnt. Those who did are called - The Rohingya.

For some religions, the main characteristic they attribute to their god is an angry vengeful jealous god that must be appeased else his wrath will be upon you.
On the other side of the spectrum, you have certain religions that only focus on love mercy and claim that "God is love" and with such beliefs create great injustices to themselves and those around them having no fear of accountability.
Unlike other religions, in Islam, we worship Allah (suba¸hanahu wa ta'ala) based upon three motivational factors of Love, Hope; Fear.

Hence, we can extrapolate a few important details from the above:
Salah (prayer) is a personal conversation between the slave and his Master between the worshipper and the Lord of the Heavens and the earth.

In this episode of the Tafsir of Surat al-Fatihah, Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi encourages us to delve on the following points:
The fact of the matter that our lives are consistently and completely dependent on the blessings of Allah SWT and the absolute need to comprehend this with utmost reverence and gratitude as opposed to attributing one’s achievements and bounties to the self.
The acceptance of the fact that we will never be able to fully ever count all of the blessings of Allah upon us since they are innumerable.

The fact that the name ‘Allah’ is the very first and last name mentioned in the Qur'an apart from also being mentioned in multitude in every page of the Noble Qur'an.
In this short episode of the Tafsir of Surah Al-Fatiha, Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi discusses the following key points. They are as follows:
The ever rising doubt on the inclusion of the Basmala (Bismillah) as part of Surah Fatihah or as a separate phrase in itself.
The recitation of Bismillah silently or audibly.
The difference between glorifying the "name of Allah" versus Allah Himself.
Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi now moves on to discuss the most important phrase - Bismillahir-Rahmanir-Rahim (The Basmalah). This phrase is used to bless us with the right thoughts and frame of mind and is used right after seeking protection from Shaytan with the Istihaadah.

Shaykh Yasir Qadhi now begins the Tafsir of Surah so special that Allah has made it obligatory upon us to recite this Surah in each and every rakat of the Salah - Surat Al Fatihah. Why is it so significant? Do we fully comprehend the magnanimity and grandeur of this Surah also known as Umm Al-Kitab (the Mother of the Book)?
In this particular lecture, Shaykh Yasir Qadhi analyses the meaning of the phrase - Rabbi Al Alamin. Why does this phrase garner such a profound explanation of its meaning?
Listen intently and be mesmerised.
Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi elaborates on the topic of divorce, ways to salvage a marriage from the danger of divorce and the guidelines for a divorce as the final resort.
Marriage is one of the greatest blessings given by Allah SWT and we should always try to preserve it.
The couple needs to communicate and address their issues with each other before bringing others into the turmoil.
It is binding upon the spouses to overlook some minor issues and problems.
The door of Istikhara should be approached in the event of deciding on a divorce.
Guidelines of divorce:
Divorce has been made Haram during the menses.
The husband and wife after the Talaq are required to live in the same house for three monthly cycles and she is not required to leave the house as is what is normally believed.
Three divorces in one cycle is disastrous and should not be advocated or encouraged.
Should the divorce eventually happen, then it is binding upon the husband to give a parting gift to the now ex- wife.
Listen intently to the lecture to delve deeper into the topic.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi embarks on a journey that aims to highlight several aspects of our Deen.
A strong believer is the one who has strong Iman and he is better than a weak Mumin. Not every believer has the same degree of Iman.
Allah will love a strong believer more than a weak believer.
A strong believer should adopt those characteristics which Allah loves as mentioned in the Qur'an and stay away from those which He hates.
The Prophet ﷺ has instructed us to aim for the best of Deen and Dunya in intent and resolve and that is the sign of the strong believer - he is wise.
A strong believer will always make Dua to Allah before embarking on any path because he has the realization that he needs the help of Allah for everything.
A strong believer is never lazy but instead will be hardworking in the quest to achieve strong Iman.
Three necessary conditions for success:
Intent
Dua and Prayer
Right action
A detailed discussion on the topic of Salat Al Istikhara is also one and it is indeed enlightening to listen to the Shaykh motivate us immensely to always seek Allah’s help before attempting to make new beginnings. It is the only right way there is.
Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi's explicit lecture on the Tafsir of Surah Al-Ma`un and the prominence of the month of Muharram and Ashura makes for a very interesting listen.
“So woe to those who pray (but) who are heedless of their prayer - Those who make show (of their deeds)”
[Surat Al-Ma`un, verses 4-6]
In these verses, Allah SWT admonishes those that do pray Salah but don't pay attention to it. They do not pay heed to the spiritual aspect of Salah and hence, khushoo in Salah is lost. Surely, Allah deserves infinite more respect when we stand in front of Him for Salah.
It was narrated that Abu Hurayrah RA said, The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:“The best fasting after Ramadan is the month of Allah Muharram, and the best prayer after the obligatory prayer is prayer at night.”
The Prophet ﷺ said: “For fasting the day of Ashura, I hope that Allah will accept it as expiation for the year that went before.”
Ibn Abbas RA said, “When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ reached Medina, he found the Jews fasting the Day of Ashura, so he asked them, ‘What is this day you are fasting?’ They said, ‘This is a tremendous day. Allah saved Musa and his people on this day and drowned Pharaoh and his people. Musa fasted it out of thanks, so we fast it too.’ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, ‘And we are more deserving of Musa than you are.’ So he fasted this day, and ordered that it be fasted.”
It is narrated by Ibn Abbas RA that the Prophet ﷺ said,“Fast the Day of ‘Ashura and be different from the Jews by fasting a day before it or a day after it.”
The virtues of Muharram and Ashura are highlighted and we are acquainted with it in an elaborate manner.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi delves into the Tafsir of Surah Al Ikhlas which deals with the perfection of Allah and defends the Honour of Allah. The Prophet ﷺ would begin and end his day with Surah Al Ikhlas and hence, it is the most perfect Sunnah to abide by.
Key aspects of this magnificent Surah:
Allah is unique and no one is like Him. Allah is As Samad - He is the One who is Perfect in Himself and also it means the One to whom every creation must turn to.
Allah is unique in the way that He has no children nor did anyone give birth to Him.
Allah has nothing equal or similar to Him.
A brief lecture is given on Prophet Isa AS and what is his stature in Islam and how we are different in our beliefs as opposed to other religions.
He is the only one who spoke as if he is giving a sermon from the cradle itself.
He performed miracles the likes of which no one ever performed.
His birth was miraculous as he had no father and even then, his mother Maryam AS was not humiliated or asked about this birth.
He was raised by Allah after a failed assassination attemptat the hands of the Jews. He was not killed or crucified contrary to Christian belief.
Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi delves into numerous magnificent Quranic verses and Hadith of the Prophet ﷺ pertaining to the stark, temporary reality of this world as opposed to the permanence of the Hereafter.
"And the life to come: that is the real life, if they but knew!"
This verse of the Qur'an forever reminds us of the world being a place of delusion, enticement, persuasion and temptation enamoring us by the foolishness of indulging in materialism. Yet our weak Iman fails to ignite the true worry for the Hereafter and part with the transience of this world and how we should be in the pursuit for its preparation.
As is also narrated in a Hadith reported by Abu Huraira RA, the Prophet ﷺ said, “Wretched is the slave of gold, silver, fine clothes, and garments. If he is given he is pleased, but if he is not given he is displeased.”
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi discusses the inevitable reality of death and how we should prepare for it.
Death is a necessary part of our life and we cannot deny it no matter how much we are averse to talking about it. Death is as much a reality as is your life.
Of the mysteries of death is the timing of our death and no one can change the timing of death and the location is also kept a secret even from the angel of death.
The first sign of death is the Sakaratul Maut or the pangs of death. They are the precursor to the arrival of the angel of death.
The death of the righteous is different from that of a Fasiq. The entourage that greets these two types of Muslims is very different. The righteous sees angels of mercy that will be calming him down and reassuring him of care for his family in the world.
Angels Munkar or Nakeer will come to you in your grave and ask the following questions:
Who is your Lord and what is your religion?
Who is Muhammad ﷺ?
How did you live your life?
What happens to a disbeliever? What do the angels of punishment do to him? Shaykh Yasir Qadhi explains explicitly on the torture that he will be faced with. Listen intently to save ourselves from it when there is the time.
Our Prophet ﷺ said, 'Frequently remember the destroyer of pleasures' implying death.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi discusses at length the origin of Salah and its profound necessity in our lives. Every single pillar of Islam was ordained by Allah through Jibreel AS to the Prophet ﷺ. But only for Salah, Allah communicated directly with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in His Divinity. Such is the stature of Salah.
While Prophet Ibrahim and Ismail AS are building the Ka’bah, Ibrahim AS says, “O my Rabb make ME amongst those who establish the Salah, me and my children, Our Lord, and accept my supplication.” Surah Ibrahim
The very first commandment that Allah gave to Prophet Musa AS, He said, “I am Allah, there is no deity worthy of worship except Me so worship Me and establish the Salah to remember Me. ” Surah Taha
The infant Prophet Isa AS said, “I am a servant of Allah, Allah has granted me the wisdom and given me the book, and He has made me a Prophet, and He has made me Blessed wheresoever I may be and He has commanded that I pray and give charity as long as I live.”- Surah Maryam
The Prophet Muhammad’s ﷺ Seerah is sufficient enough to highlight the prominence of Salah. The Night of Isra Wal Miraj gave us the blessing of 5 times Salah in a day.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi hence, implores us to establish prayer and get rid of all the invalid excuses we make to not obey this most important command of Allah. We will be questioned about Salah before anything else on the Day of Judgement.
“The Prayer Prohibits you from vulgarities, obscenities and other sins.”
[Surah Ankabut]
The last words of the Prophet ﷺ on his deathbed are, “As-salaah, as-salaah! Wat-taqullah fee ma malakat aymanukum.”
Hence, his only request to the Muslim Ummah even during his final moments was only and only to establish prayer sincerely and never lose track of it.
Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi explicitly elaborates on the importance of having good manners in Islam. What constitutes good manners? Some of them are listed below.
Our Prophet ﷺ said, "Verily, I have only been sent to perfect good manners."
Whenever someone came to the Prophet ﷺ for advice, it always was more often than not related to perfection of good manners.
People can be never given a better blessing from Allah than good manners. It is the best treasure one can have.
The Prophet ﷺ said that a righteous Muslim can achieve the level of an elite Muslim who is firm in fasting and praying by simply having good manners.
Our Prophet ﷺ said that having good manners is a sign of Iman.
Allah loves good manners and He hates debased manners.
Good manners are the weightiest and heaviest things on the Meezan on the Day of Judgement apart from Iman and Taqwa.
Our Akhlaq will dictate our closeness with the Prophet ﷺ on the Day of Judgement as is mentioned in a Hadith.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi delves into the topic of family and children in this important lecture.
Children are one of the greatest blessing from Allah but with every blessing comes responsibility. How do we take charge of status of the relationship between ourselves and our children? How do we raise our children in the most impeccable manner so that they too make the best of families?
Taking care of children transcends religion. For instance, when our Prophet ﷺ was engaged in Salah in the most humble position of sujood, his grandchild Hassan RA jumped onto his back and our Prophet ﷺ lengthened his sujood so that Hassan RA would not fall off and get hurt. Our Prophet ﷺ loved children and he would often show his love by kissing his grandchildren Hassan RA and Hussain RA and playing with them.
Why do we coerce our parents into praying Salah at its stipulated times with utmost authority? The reason is a very selfish one and Shaykh Yasir explains that it is because we make our children understand that there is an authority that is above parents too and that is Allah SWT.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi discusses in this Khutbah a short tafseer of Surah Ash-Sharh. Allah’s love for His worshippers is shown by putting them through trials and tribulations in this world.
We are reminded of the things Allah has bestowed upon us which include innumerable blessings. Hence, it is binding upon us to be thankful for them and always look at life with a positive outlook and have a productive life. Each blessing bestowed upon our Prophet ﷺ is also a blessing for us.
Never does Allah send down something difficult that simultaneously He sends down the ease too. With every difficulty that is sent, comes two ease. It is also essential to remember that if we assign our ultimate goal to solely be the pleasure of Allah, then the problems of this dunya will sound so trivial and most of the time cease to exist. He who has Allah has everything. We are the owners of the treasure that has been handed out to us being Muslims.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi delivers a beautiful lecture with regards to Surah Al Qalam and we get acquainted with the different aspects of the positive uses of wealth by analyzing the story of the Companions of the Garden in the Surah. The Surah bears testimony and highlights the magnanimity of the Prophet ﷺ as opposed to the misguided who reject him and his guidance.
The story being discussed here is that of a family from Yemen who inherited their father's wealth but did not inherit his character. It bears numerous lessons for the Muslim believer in every phase of his life. Some of them can be summarised as below:
The blessedness of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ - his noble character and emphasis is laid on it.
The evil behaviour and the devious and treacherous ways of the non believers is brought to the fore.
A mention of the people of Paradise as opposed to the evil polytheists.
The Day of Resurrection and the disbelievers torments and punishments that will be meted out to him.
A word of comfort to the Noble Prophet ﷺ to persevere and exercise patience against the evil men.
The glory of the Noble Qur’an.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi dedicates this lecture to an oft-neglected topic of how does one’s heart harden over time and how to cure the diseases of the heart and make them soft, pure, calm and peaceful.
"The day that neither wealth nor sons will be of any benefit except for he who comes to Allah with a pure heart."
[The Noble Qur'an, 26:88-89]
Strong Iman is reflective of a pure heart and weak Iman reflects a hard heart.one should perform a reality check on how prepared and ready we are to enter Jannah, given the condition of our heart.
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said, "Verily, Allah does not look at your appearance or wealth, but rather He looks at your hearts and your deeds."
It is incumbent upon us to cleanse our hearts of the inherent evil which we feed it in order to relish the sweetness and purity of true faith and submission to our Almighty SWT.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi explicitly elaborates on the blessings and etiquettes of Khutbah and the day of Jumu'ah.
Blessings of Jumu'ah:
Jumu'ah is the leader of all the days of the week. It is our day of the Eid.
Jumu'ah sees new beginnings such as the creation of Adam, Adam is sent to Jannah and much more.
The only day mentioned in the Qur'an is Jumu'ah.
It is a blessed day even in the HereAfter.
Many blessings in Jannah on Jumu'ah are seen - Souq Al Jannah.
Etiquettes of Jummah:
Salat ul Jumu'ah with the Khutbah
It is Wajib to attend.
It is not allowed to run businesses during Jumu'ah.
Jumu'ah makes it obligatory to take a bath, wear our best dresses and look our best.
It is preferred to walk to the Masjid for Jumu'ah.
It is forbidden to talk during Khutbah.
Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi in this riveting and eye opening lecture, explicitly delves into the topic of unity amongst Muslims and how unity can be achieved when the Ummah is divided in their various interpretations of Islam as we speak.
The Prophet ﷺ said, "My Ummah will divide into seventy-three sects all of which except one will go to the Fire, and they (i.e. the Saved Sect) are those who are upon what I and My Companions are upon."
Using the above Hadith, many overtly enthusiastic and ill-knowledge youth and members of the Muslim community bring about various conversations that tend to malign the peace and beliefs of the Muslim Ummah leading to a natural divide and barrier that is very hard to annihilate.
Even as we say so, one major question comes to mind - Are the majority of the Ummah misguided? does every deviation direct one to the Hell Fire?
And the final million dollar question along the lines of the aforementioned Hadith- Which group is ‘ The Saved Sect’?
Listen intently and get those doubts answered once and for all.
Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi acquaints us with the reality of Jinn in the Qur'an and Sunnah.
What is meant by Jinn? What are the roots of Jinns? The mysteries surrounding these smokeless creations are elucidated upon in explicit detail.
Characteristics of Jinn:
Jinn was created before man. From what is it created? We have proofs in the Qur'an that Jinns are formed from Maarij Naar and Naar As Samooh.they do not have a particular shape or form and hence, take any shape they choose. They can enter our paradigm of living but we cannot do the same. They marry and have children. They also eat and drink. The speed and strength of Jinns is much stronger than man and they possess the capability to transform matter into energy and vice versa. They have much longer lives than and are much more in quantity than man.
The story of Prophet Sulaiman RA and the Queen of Sheba is explained to highlight the aspect of Jinns. All the Jinns were subservient to Prophet Sulaiman RA. It makes for a very interesting listen.
Intellectual characteristics of Jinns:
They possess much less wisdom than man.
Iblis and his progeny have an inferiority complex towards man.
They eavesdrop on the angels.
Forms of Jinn:
Some are in the form of snakes and dogs.
Some are flying in the air.
Some camp and then go away.
What is an Ifreet of a Jinn? It is a type of Jinn that has strength above that of other Jinns. The reality of Ghoul is also a topic that is touched base upon.
In this heart wrenching and motivational talk, Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi deals with the issues of humans being afflicted and swamped in sins and its after effects.
O you who have believed, respond to Allah and to the Messenger when He calls you to that which gives you life!
[Surat Al-'Anfal, verse 24]
The gist of the lecture is that if we remain steadfast in the path of Allah SWT, then our physical and spiritual existence will be of significance and merit. But if we deviate from the path of Allah and the teachings of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, then our physical and spiritual existence is doomed and it will culminate in the hardening of our hearts and we will be held accountable for it on the Day of Judgement.
We should find comfort and solace in the belief that every predicament, calamity and distress will only be sent down such that we turn to Allah for guidance and help and He will not resolve it. These trials and tribulations test the true strength of a believer which is marked by his turning to Allah in humility and submissiveness and advocating complete Tawakkul in Him.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi explicitly acquaints us with the benefits, blessings, sacredness and significance of the last two verses of Surah Baqarah of the Qur'an which is also known as Khawatim Baqarah.
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Recite the Quran, for on the Day of Resurrection it will come as an intercessor for its reciters. Recite the two illuminated chapters, Surat al-Baqarah and Ali Imran, for on the Day of Resurrection they will come as two clouds, or two shades, or two flocks of birds pleading for their companions. Recite Surat al-Baqarah as there is blessing in it, there is sorrow in leaving it, and the sorcerers cannot defeat it.”
Every single facet of Islam is explained in this Surah comprehensively. The last two verses are explained in vivid detail and should be adhered to religiously and should be said when we sleep in the night.
Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi and Dr. Nabil Bayakli discuss the history of Palestine from 1914 till the present day in this riveting lecture.
The greatest real estate theft in the history of humanity has definitely got to be that of Palestine, no questions asked. The loss of Palestinian land from 1946 to 2000 is shocking and deplorable.
The Palestinian struggle is a struggle for humanity, given that they have been at the receiving end of everyone’s betrayal, treachery and deceit. It is binding upon us to educate ourselves and those around us about the struggle of Palestine. We need to be more proactive regarding Palestine and speak about them at any occasion and at every opportunity.
Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi embarks on a meaningful, necessary, enthralling and enlightening journey to acquaint us with the occurrences a hundred years ago that preceded the beginning of the modern Muslim world.
The year of 1914 was a landmark year of sorts in terms of abolishment of the Islamic Caliphate and the division of Muslim lands into the modern countries of the Middle East that we are well aware of. This happened primarily due to a series of catastrophic political and social changes in the world.
As a lesson that we as Muslims need to imbibe and inculcate , is that we need to learn from our past mistakes that happened in those 100 years and make genuine efforts to refrain from repeating them. The deceit, betrayal and treachery of European powers and also by the local Muslim leaders of the time should teach us to get our act straight before it is too late.
In this lecture, Shaykh Yasir Qadhi gives a detailed account of Al Mahdi which is one of the most oft discussed topics of Islam.
What is the meaning of the word Mahdi? Who is Mahdi? The Mahdi is a title and it means the one who is guided and who guides others. His name is Muhammad Ibn Abdullah and he is from the Ahlul Bayt. He is one of the signs of the Day of Judgement. The coming of the Mahdi is the link between the minor and major signs of the Day of Judgement.
Where shall the Mahdi come from? No one has a clear idea and one should not estimate. What will be his location? The Mahdi will come from Madinah to Makkah.
He shall fight the forces of Dajjal and will be the leader of the Muslims and they will stand united as one Ummah until the arrival of Prophet Isa AS.
