Yasir Qadhi was born in Houston, Texas and completed his primary and secondary education in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. He graduated with a B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Houston, after which he was accepted as a student at the Islamic University of Madinah.
After completing a diploma in Arabic, he graduated with a B.A. from the College of Hadith and Islamic Sciences.
Thereafter, he completed a M.A. in Islamic Theology from the College of Dawah, after which he returned to America and completed his doctorate, in Religious Studies, from Yale University. Currently he is teaching at Rhodes College, in Memphis, TN.
This talk by Shaykh Yasir Qadhi highlights the lessons we can learn, imbibe and inculcate from the hijrah or Emigration.
We are acquainted with the story of Umm e Ma’bad and how her husband and she accepted Islam and what made them to do this. The Prophet ﷺ made da'wah even along his way , inviting people to Islam and thinking about saving people.
What can we learn from the Hijrah? What does it try to teach us?
The meticulous planning and preparation for the Hijrah as is cited in numerous instances and the sheer thought process into the detailing is something to be admired if not be mesmerised by given the dire and most trying of circumstances they were in.
Abu Bakr RA is the ONLY sahabi whose companionship has been testified by Allah in the Qur'an and to go against him is to go against the Word of Allah SWT.
Why did Allah choose Yathrib(Madinah) as the destination for the Hijrah over all the places in the world, say for example, Abyssinia?
Strategic location and proximity to Mecca.
Magnanimous city from a military viewpoint.
Indomitable spirit of the people of Madinah made it the perfect group to propagate Islam.
Many blessings have been ordained for the city of Madinah, among which are:
The Prophet ﷺ made Dua for Madinah - "cause us to love Madinah as much us we loved Mecca or more than this".
It has the mountain of Uhud where the Prophet SAW said "this is a mountain we love and it loves us". The Prophet ﷺ said Uhd is one of the mountains of Jannah.
The Prophet ﷺ also blessed the food of Madinah.
The Prophet ﷺ said "make Madinah double the blessings of Mecca".
The Prophet ﷺ said "whoever amongst you is able to die in Madinah let him do so, because I will intercede for him on the day of Judgement" Which implies that it is a huge blessing to die in Madinah.
In this video by Shaykh yasir Qadhi, we get acquainted with the Hijrah - Emigration to Madinah and its various facets. The incident of Hijrah is difficult to chronologically assimilate and hence, we rely on authentic sources to make a chain of events as they unfolded.
The Prophet ﷺ was among the final people to emigrate to Madinah. The actual Hijrah took place on Monday, 26th Safar of the 13th year of the Dawah which tallies with the 1st year of the Hijrah. What happened on the day? What made the Prophet ﷺ think of taking this step? Who accompanied him on this Hijrah? It was the good fortune of Abu Bakr As Siddiq RA to have the coveted honour and privilege. When our beloved Prophet ﷺ received permission to take Abu Bakr RA , it was only then that he was given the nod to accompany him.
Abu Bakr RA had a plan on how to undergo this important journey. Abu Bakr RA planned to stay in the cave for three nights and appointed three people to manage three tasks. The first was his son Abdullah whose job was to supply them food and drink inside the cave and gave information about the people of Mecca and the whereabouts of the expeditions to track them down. The second person was Amr ibn Hufayra who was a freed slave and he had to make sure the footsteps of Abdullah ibn Abu Bakr are wiped away. The third man was Abdullah ibn Arkat and he was given the job to lead them to Madinah through a secret passage.
What were the happenings in the cave of Thawr? Listen intently and get mesmerised by the ways in which Allah SWT showers his rahmah on his beloved people.
In this video, details are disclosed on the early steps towards migration to Madinah and how the Ansar were a force to reckon with. The Ansar were developing their Iman and strength in Allah. They were the ones who said, "For how long will we let the Prophet ﷺ beg tribes for protection, why don't we adopt him and take him on?" And then they were the ones who volunteer "why don't we launch an offensive attack?" such was their keenness to protect the Prophet ﷺ.
The Prophet ﷺ had said after the conquest of Mecca "were it not for the Hijrah, I would of been a man of the Ansar, and if the Ansar went in one direction, and all of mankind went in another, I will follow the Ansar".
After the treaty of Aqabah, the Prophet ﷺ made an announcement to the Muslims, and he said "Allah has shown me the land you shall immigrate to. It's a land of date palms between two volcanic planes". And indeed Madinah is in the middle of two volcanos on either side. The reason for this is that the Quraysh would not willingly let this happen.
It's said the first person to immigrate was Abu Salama, the husband of Umme Salama. Suhayb ar Rumi, Umar RA's two companions- Hisham ibn Al As, the brother of Amr ibn Al As and Ayyash ibn Abi Rabiah were also among the people who moved to Yathrib.
When the Prophet ﷺ migrated, he made dua for them and said, "Oh Allah save Ayaash, save Hisham, send your punishment on the Quraysh". And he kept on asking the Muslims "who will volunteer to save Ayaash etc". Saving them meant walking into Mecca itself which was full of Quraysh. However, finally Al Waleed ibn Waleed, Khalid's older brother volunteered and said "I will do it". And so he travelled to Mecca and Allah blessed him to find out where the dungeon was, and he was able to break into it, rescue both of them and bring Ayaash and Hisham back.

Shaykh Yasir Qadhi divulges details on the treaty of Aqabah in this amazing video.
2 years before the Hijrah, 10 people from the Khazraj and 2 from the Aws came and met with the Prophet ﷺ and a formal conversion to Islam took place. Ubad ibn Samit was among those who witnessed this first formal covenant called the first covenant of Aqabah.
Ubad Ibn Samit said, "I was of those who participated, and it was the 'oath of the women'". This was an oath that had no political connotations. When women converted the Prophet ﷺ only asked them to live good lives and be worshippers of Allah and hence, this oath was called the 'oath of women'.
The conversion of two people in particular led to a mass conversion. They were the upcoming leaders of the Khazraj - Usayd ibn Hudayr and Sa'd ibn Mu'adh. With the conversion of both, the entire tribe, the Banu 'Abd al-Ashhal, that was a sub tribe of the Khazraj, converted. And this was the largest mass conversion to happen until then.
There was however one exception - Usayreen who was the only pagan of the tribe of Banu 'Abd al-Ashhal and he refused to convert. Abu Hurairah RA says, "He is Usayreen of the Banu 'Abd al-Ashhal. " He remained firm on his paganism until the day of Uhud. On the morning of this battle he decided to convert, and when he fought his people said, 'Oh Usayreen we have no need of you'. But he said 'I am here to fight'. They said, 'Are you fighting for tribal loyalty, or for Allah and His Messenger?' They realise victory is from belief in Allah only. So they quiz him and Usayreen said 'I am now a muslim and I fight for Allah'. And he embraced Islam after Fajr and before Zuhr he died. So the Prophet ﷺ said, "he did very little, but was rewarded a lot, with Jannah"
There were 72 men and 2 women whom the Prophet ﷺ took allegiance verbally. How did this come into being? What were the series of incidents before it culminated in this manner? Listen intently and be mesmerised by Shaykh Yasir Qadhi and his enlightening talk on this aspect.
In this video, we see how Prophet Muhammad ﷺ began his initial steps towards planting the seeds of Yathrib. Shaykh Yasir Qadhi embarks on a tell all of the events that transpired and the culmination happened in Yathrib.
The Prophet ﷺ had been abandoned by his own tribe and the Quraysh were not happy with the situation where Mut'im was siding with the Prophet ﷺ. Mut'im passed away within a year before the battle of Badr. So the Prophet ﷺ realised that he needs to leave Mecca and head elsewhere so that he can promote the religion of Islam. The Prophet ﷺ approached many tribes but all of them rejected the message like the tribes of Kindah, Banu Shayban and many more.
The city of Yathrib was composed of three main groups of people. Two of whom were Arab, and one large group of Jews. The Arab tribes were the Aws and the Khazraj. And the Jews werel: Banu Nadir, Banu Qaynuqa the Banu Quraytha.
Of the six who accepted Islam from the tribe of Khazraj (the Prophet ﷺ had explained to them the teachings of Islam, recited the Qur'an, explained tawheed, warned against shirk etc) were some of the famous Ansar: Uqbah ibn Amir, Jabir ibn Abd Allah, As'ad bin Zurara. And they converted and went back and spread the message until in the next few months everybody in the city of Yathrib had heard of the new message and knew some of their people had reverted.
In this final part on the series of Isra Wal Miraj, Shaykh Yasir Qadhi divulges details on what transpired with the Prophet ﷺ after his meeting with Allah and what were the scenes that he witnessed.
The Prophet ﷺ narrates that after he received the command for salah he entered into Jannah. And he saw tents made out of pearls and the soil was made out of musk (perfume). It is noteworthy that the Prophet ﷺ said he 'saw Jannah' - and seeing is not actually entering Jannah. So he did not enter but just surveyed Jannah. The Prophet ﷺ saw many punishments of Hell spread over several hadiths. In each hadith he saw the punishment and then asked Jibreel "who are these people?" In one hadith the Prophet ﷺ said that he saw the punishment of the one who stole an orphans money. That they had noses like that of camels; and they were eating coals made out of fire. Their mouths would swallow the coals and it would come out of their anuses.
Did the Prophet ﷺ see Allah? Aisha RA has said "whoever says the Prophet ﷺ has seen his Lord has said a huge lie against Allah" because Allah says in the Qur'an "eyes cannot encompass Him".
Another question debated by some early scholars and still today: Was al Isra wal Mi'raj a dream, or an actual physical journey? Listen intently to unearth valid pointers and a detailed discussion on the truth behind this.
When he came back to Mecca, the Prophet ﷺ went back to sleep and woke up in the Haram. This shows therefore the actual Isra took place from the Haram to Bait ul Maqdis and then back to the Haram. He said, "When I woke up I felt an anxiety in that how am I going to tell the people about what has happened to me, what will they say? They will reject me!". This shows the human nature of the Prophet ﷺ; it also shows Allah instructed the Prophet ﷺ to tell the people as he wouldn't have told them without Allah's permission.
Some benefits of the Isra wal Mi'raj:
The event is mentioned in the Qur'an and its narrated in the Mutawatir - the authentic narrations that have been narrated by many companions. Anyone who denies this event denies the authenticity of the Qur'an and the authentic hadith.
This miracle and gift occurs at a time at great sadness and was completely unexpected. The gift came after the Prophet ﷺ lost his wife, his uncle and was rejected and stoned by the people of Ta'if. This shows us with every difficulty there is ease; the greater the difficulty the greater the ease if we remain patient and steadfast. The Prophet ﷺ had to suffer so much to obtain the gift of the Isra wal Mi'raj.
What are the theological benefits behind this miraculous journey?
Allah is above us - the very fact that the Prophet ﷺ went all the way up .He is above us.
Heaven and Hell right exist now as we speak.
The fitrah is the purity represented by milk; Islam fits in with our being and creation and it doesn't corrupt us.
In this video regarding the night he went to Isra wal Mi'raj, Shaykh Yasir Qadhi delves more into this miraculous journey and begins with attempting to put a chronological order for the narration of events as it happened.
Who were the people he met as he ascended upwards towards the Divine Throne? What is Sidratul Muntaha? What is its significance? What is the symbolism that has been tried to convey to us by Shaykh Yasir Qadhi? What is Baitul Ma’mur? Who did the Prophet ﷺ meet there?
Ibn Masud said when the Prophet ﷺ saw Jibreel AS , it is referred in the Qur'an that the Prophet ﷺ "saw Allah's major signs". Indeed the Prophet ﷺ saw three things in succession: What were they? Why was it so important? Find out in this video.
Narrated in Muslim, Ibn Masud said the Prophet ﷺ stopped at the Sidratul Muntaha in the sixth heaven, and then the Prophet ﷺ was given three things: What were they?
Next we are acquainted with the gist of al Isra wal Mi'raj - the Divine Appointment of the Prophet ﷺ with Allah SWT Himself. Furthermore, Shaykh Yasir delves into the story of how the number of Salah reduces from 50 to 5 eventually.
Why does our beloved Prophet ﷺ see all the numerous things he saw on his descent after the meeting? The wisdom here is obvious. Be enamored with the answers provided.
Listen intently to see how the Surah reflects the events and what each verse comes to mean.
This video is the beginning in the 3 part video relating to the miraculous journey undertaken by our beloved Prophet ﷺ. After the year of sorrow and the trial of Ta'if , when our Prophet ﷺ was at his lowest emotionally, it was only natural the Prophet ﷺ was gifted by a miracle from Allah and that is the incident of al-Isra wal-Mi'raj.
We are acquainted with the initial verses of Surah Isra and we come to realise that it speaks explicitly about the Isra. Why did Isra wal Miraj happen? Who was it for? When did it occur? Where did it happen from? Listen intently to get mesmerised with the answers provided by Shaykh Yasir Qadhi.
As for the Mi'raj in the Qur'an, Allah references it in Surah Najm. The reason for al Isra wal Mi'raj was for the Prophet ﷺ alone. It was a personal gift for him and him alone. We just hear about it as a blessing to the Prophet ﷺ. And the timing is perfect . How so? Find out in this episode of the Seerah. We also get clarifications on the difference between samaa' and jannah. It is truly enlightening to listen to this as well.
We are next acquainted with the occupants of each layer of the physical heavens. What is the reason for this order of arrangement of the Prophets alayhisalaam? What is the symbolism and wisdom behind this?
The Baitul Ma'mur (the frequented house) is discussed about in this video and the only authentic hadith pertaining to this is shared and elaborated.
Why was Ta’if chosen to be the place for migration after it became almost impossible to live in Mecca after having been withdrawn of any protection from Abu Lahab? What happened in Ta’if when our Prophet ﷺ reached there along with Zayd Ibn Harithah RA? Answers to these questions and more in this episode of the Seerah by Shaykh Yasir Qadhi.
Dua is the weapon of the believer. As long as we have dua, we will find a way out of our problems. Dua grants what nothing else grants. The only thing that changed Qadr is the dua that the Prophet ﷺ said when he was completely dejected having no support in Mecca and also facing rejection in the city of Ta’if. The incident of Ta'if is a complete bag of wisdom which we can derive from, in sha Allah.
Mut'im ibn Adi is the chief of the Banu Nawfal and his protection given to the Prophet ﷺ when he sought to enter Mecca after visiting Ta’if. He was a pagan and remained so till his death. What was the wisdom behind his remaining a pagan in spite of being a supporter of the Prophet ﷺ?
The Prophet ﷺ remained under Mut'im's protection for 1.5 or 2 years. But he realizes the difficulty and the delicateness of the situation. And the Prophet ﷺ kept looking for another way until Allah finally allowed him to do Hijra.
A point to contemplate upon is this - The Prophet ﷺ is all alone outside of Mecca. He has had 2 rejections. So he could have tried another city; migrated to Abyssinia where Najashi would definitely have accepted him; but he still wanted to live in Mecca, the land of persecution. Why?
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi answers this question in the most befitting manner possible.
This video is elaborated by Shaykh Yasir Qadhi dealing with the 3 great calamities that happened post the boycott. Because of these three calamities, this whole year is called the 'Year of Sorrow'.
What do we know of Abu Talib's death? There are many lessons of his life and death. What are they? We are also acquainted with the uncles and aunts of the Prophet ﷺ who accepted Islam.
Indeed these two - Abu Talib and Khadijah RA were very important to the Prophet ﷺ. Abu Talib protected him externally; Khadija RA gave the Prophet ﷺ support and protected him internally inside the house. And the death of these two was so immense a void that this whole year is aptly called - the Year of Sorrow.
When Abu Talib died this proved to be a very difficult time politically for the Prophet ﷺ. Why?
What was the evil plot hatched by Abu Jahl to strip our Prophet ﷺ from the protection of Abu Lahab now that Abu Talib had died and he being the senior most member of the family had a brief change of heart? What made our Prophet ﷺ leave Mecca and move to the city closest to Mecca - Taif?
Listen intently and reveal the answers to these questions.
This video commences with Shaykh Yasir Qadhi delving on the fact that why did the Prophet ﷺ want the Muslims to remain in Abyssinia when he was in power, winning battles etc.
Meanwhile, in Makkah, two major conversions took place after the second immigration to Abyssinia. The first of them was Hamza ibn Abdul Muttalib - the uncle of the Prophet ﷺ. Its reported that just three days later Allah blessed the Muslims with the conversion of Umar ibn Al-Khattab RA. Listen to know more about how these conversions took place and the incidents that transpired before them.
With the two conversions, both Hamza and Umar RA, the Quraysh felt defeated and humiliated. Firstly, the bulk of the Muslims fled to Abyssinia. This was threatening and disgraceful. And second two of the most prominent and powerful men had left them and joined Islam.
The Quraysh did not leave this and instead opted for the most strict of methods to make the Prophet ﷺ tread the difficult path and that was the boycott. The Muslims were to not get any food or water and all marriages were cut off along with business transactions etc. It was a complete boycott. This resulted in a type of exile being imposed on themselves and moving to a valley outside of Mecca. In order to solidify this boycott, the Quraysh wrote a treaty amongst themselves that nobody will basically socialise with the Banu Abd Munaf/Banu Hashim.
A number of incidents happened that finally brought about the boycott to end.what were they and how did they come into existence? What nullified the treaty and made the Banu Hashim return to Mecca? Listen intently and revel in Allah’s Qadr.
The Prophet ﷺ and the Sahaba returned after 2.5 years of the boycott; around the 10th year of the Dawah when the Prophet ﷺ was roughly 49 years old.
And then Allah tested him with the most difficult and traumatic tests - the death of Abu Talib and Khadijah and then Taif. This was the lowest period of the seerah of the Prophet ﷺ.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi discusses the details of the second migration to Abyssinia and the events that transpired in the course of this happening.
As discussed earlier, the Muslims returned from Abyssinia due to the rumour of the Satanic verses which proved to be wrong. The main point is that, from the immediate sahaba, Umar RA was still not Muslim, Uthman RA immigrated and Ali ibn Abi Talib was too young to immigrate.
How about Abu Bakr RA? He initially decided to immigrate and accompany Uthman. But he saw a change in plan when the leader of the neighboring tribe, Ibn Ad-Daghin offered protection to Abu Bakr RA. So he stayed back in Mecca. But later he was removed from this protection. Why did this happen? Listen to unravel the details.
The incident of Uthman ibn Madhoon and the famous poet, Labeed is another interesting story that should be heard to fully fathom the firm belief of the Muslims in the message of the Prophet ﷺ from Allah.
So the situation in Mecca remained status quo, and the Quraysh continued to torture and persecute the Muslims, so the people saw it in their best interest to go back to Abyssinia. The Quraysh; the strongest tribe, the strongest, the custodians of the Haram considered this to be the ultimate embarrassment and hence decided that they cannot allow this immigration. So they decided to send two people to Abyssinia and appeal directly to the Najashi - the leader of Abyssinia. The Najashi - the leader of Abyssinia named Ashuma, Amr ibn Al-As RA and Ja'far ibn Abi Talib RA are the key people in this monumental dialogue that transpired in Abyssinia.
What was the outcome of this conversation? How did Islam emerge victorious once again even in the wake of the ultimate bribery methods sought by the Quraysh?
Shaykh yasir answers all of the above.
This video entirely delves into the incident behind the Satanic Verses with reference to Surah Najm and Shaykh Yasir Qadhi explicitly clarifies every single version pertaining to these verses and what is the understanding behind these versions, which of them is authentic and which is a fabricated one.
Shortly after the immigration to Abyssinia the Muslims came back to Mecca. So much so it is narrated they came back in the month of Shawwal. Thus, they immigrated in Rajab but came back just 3 months later. They all returned - so what happened to cause them to change their mind and come back to the very land of torture? This incident was the famous incident called the 'satanic verses'.
The controversy comes over whether this incident is authentic or not. And further how we understand this incident. Therefore, Shaykh Yasir discusses the different versions of the story that exist.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi's opinion is also elucidated upon and makes for a very informative and knowledgeable mention.
In the end all verses have been accounted for, those two verses are not in the Qur'an anyway - NO ONE says they are and so as Allah says He has made His verses crystal clear.
In this video, Shaykh Yasir continues the difficulties that were arising in the quest for Islam and how our Prophet ﷺ sought to make adjustments but never once thought of abandoning our Deen.
For the spread of Islam to the farthest extent possible, the Prophet ﷺ realised he needed a place to congregate with his supporters. So, how did he choose an appropriate place for this purpose and what was the wisdom behind the choice? Shaykh Yasir elaborates.
The next major incident was the first immigration to Abyssinia which is in Africa. When these tactics of torture and humiliation continued at the hands of the pagans, the Prophet ﷺ suggested to the Sahaba of migrating to Abyssinia. One has to imagine how difficult and utterly demotivating was the situation in Mecca for them to prefer going to Abyssinia over staying in Mecca. What were the wisdoms of choosing Abyssinia as the safety net? Listen intently and be mesmerised by the sheer intellect of our Prophet ﷺ.
When the Prophet ﷺ gave this command, 15 people migrated in total, 11 men and 4 women. Who were they and what criteria was to be met for the selected people to migrate?
Watch this episode of the Seerah for interesting details.
The series on the Seerah continues and Shaykh Yasir divulges numerous details on the torture and persecution of the weak. We are also acquainted with some famous names who set a praiseworthy example of bravery and dedication to the pursuit of Islam even in the wake of hardships and trials.
The famous incident that occurred relating to the jews was their challenge to the Prophet ﷺ to answer three questions - no one would know the answer except a true prophet from Israel:
The young men who entered a cave and slept a long time - only a prophet would know the details.
A man who travelled the world from the east to west.
Ask him about the ruh and what it is made of.
Eventually, Allah SWT revealed Surah Kahf to answer all these questions and Prophet ﷺ emerged victorious once again.
The first seven to revert to Islam were Ibn Masud, Abu Bakr, Ammar ibn Yasir, his mother Sumaya, Suhaib ar-Rumi, Bilal and al-Miqdad. As for the Prophet ﷺ, Allah protected through his uncle Abu Talib. As for Abu Bakr RA, then Allah protected him through his own tribe, the Banu Quhafa.
How Bilal ibn Rabah RA was tortured incessantly and how he kept a brave face in the wake of this torment and as a reward, how Allah raised his status in Islam makes for an interesting listen and should be heard to feel the greatness of these Sahabas who walked the face of this earth.

The other well known sahabi who reverted very early is Suhayb ar-Rumi and his torment and torture is also explicitly explained.
The punishment for the wrongdoers is made very evident and makes us affirm the justice of Allah is imminent.
In this video, Shaykh Yasir delves on the various other ways in which the Quraysh sought to oppose the message of the Prophet ﷺ and his quest for the propagation of Islam. Chief among these was putting a ban on the recitation of the Qur'an and advocating numerous ways to stop it from being heard by the people.another way was to to ridicule the Prophet ﷺ and his believers.
We also gather insight on the famous story wherein the three leaders of Quraysh went in secret to hear the recitation of the Prophet ﷺ. It makes for an interesting listen and is not to be missed.
The narration of the famous incident of outright bribery that transpired in connection with Utbah ibn Rabi'ah is up for discussion and numerous details come to the fore. Utbah was from the Banu Hashim and was a man of wisdom and he was a distant cousin of the Prophet ﷺ. Major lessons in facing trials can be inculcated through this story and should be listened to fully fathom the greatness of our Prophet ﷺ even in such trying circumstances and not leaving the side of Islam even for a second.

Next up for discussion are the uncles of the Prophet ﷺ and how each one is different from the other. Four people, all sons of the same father, and all uncles of the greatest to live. All of this goes to show that our fathers and uncles and sons will not help us. This is the basic message the Prophet ﷺ said, "Nobody can help you against the punishment of Allah - you must save yourself".

Numerous questions come to the fore and each question is explicitly elaborated upon with impeccable answers. For instance, how was Surah Muddaththir revealed? What verses were revealed to the Prophet ﷺ from this Surah initially?
What exactly is a revelation? How does it occur? It is a direct communication from Allah to mankind. Ibn Qayyim said the Prophet ﷺ was inspired by 7 different means which are elucidated by Shaykh Yasir and we are left in awe. The Shaykh also discusses the reason for the 30-40 day gap before the second revelation.
Some scholars claim that our Prophet ﷺ became a Nabi with Iqra. When he got second revelation, he became a Rasul. What is the difference between them? There are four opinions in this regard and Shaykh Yasir divulges details elaborately.
What is the purpose of prophets? Why do we need them? Who were the first and earliest reverts to Islam? Who were the batch of converts who had converted directly at the hands of the Prophet ﷺ? And who had the similar privilege at the hands of Abu Bakr As Siddiq RA?

One such explanation can be seen in the following :
The Prophet ﷺ was asked about fasting on Mondays and he said: “That is a day on which I was born and on it my mission began – or Revelation came to me.”
In this video, Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi elucidates in immense detail the genealogy of the Prophet ﷺ, the incident of the discovery of Zamzam and the Year of the Elephant.
As many as 20 generations can be traced back in the name of our Prophet Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Abdul-Muttalib bin Hashim bin Abd Manaf bin Qusai bin Kilab bin Murah bin Ka'ab bin Lu'ay bin Ghalib bin Fihr bin Malik bin An-Nadr bin Kinanah bin Khuzaimah bin Mudrikah bin Ilyas bin Mudar bin Nizar bin Ma'ad bin Adnan. Nobody had a more noble and prestigious lineage than our Prophet ﷺ.
Details are divulged of the various generations and special names are highlighted to understand the essence of these names.
The three important events that transpired in the lifetime of Abdul Muttalib are next in the line of discussion. Also, his family is mentioned by way of the names of his children.
The story of the lineage of the Prophet ﷺ proves without an iota of doubt that something momentous was to follow and every person in the lineage of the Prophet ﷺ provides momentous value whether it is economic or political or monumental discoveries.
A hidden symbolism is also made to ponder on with the protection of the Ka'bah in the context of the story of the year of the elephant and how in all retrospection it was the Prophet ﷺ that Allah was protecting who was inside the Ka'bah in the womb of his mother Amina RA.
In this video by Shaykh Yasir Qadhi, we gather insight on the religious status of the world pre-Islam and before the advent of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. The reason behind this need is that we will appreciate the Prophet ﷺ more if we see the pre-Islamic Jahiliyyah.
When and where did paganism begin? How did idolatry come into being? Who were the exceptions to the norms of idolatry? Shaykh Yasir Qadhi answers these questions impeccably and with utmost clarification.
The story of Naailah and Assaf on Mount Safa and Marwa is another interesting addition to show the extent of Jahiliyyah. Shaykh Yasir also delves into the three major strands of Christianity. The story of Salman Al Farsi makes for a very morally enriching experience - whoever is sincere will be rightly guided if their heart is pure.
We are also astonished and wonder how Waraqah bin Naufal, Uthman bin Al-Huwairith, Zayd bin ‘Amr and Ubaidullah bin Jahsh managed to keep away from paganism even in the wake of mass herd mentality of the people then. An interesting listen , so please do not miss it.
We also get answer to the question - who was the one man ummah without any Prophet ?
Get answers to all of our most pertinent questions concerning idolatry and paganism.
In this lecture in the Seerah of the Prophet ﷺ, Shaykh Yasir Qadhi attempts to unravel the actual meaning of Seerah and what is its significance. We are also acquainted with the innumerable benefits of the Seerah or why we should study the Seerah.
Firstly, Allah has commanded us to know the Prophet ﷺ and hence, primarily the one way to increase the love for the Prophet ﷺ and to demonstrate our love for him can only be made possible with the detailed understanding of the Seerah. Without it, we cannot also attempt to appreciate the Qur'an and follow the Noble Book in all earnestness ever. We can always defend the Prophet ﷺ by studying the Seerah.
Where does one study the Seerah from? What are the sources of Seerah? The number one source of the Seerah is inevitably the Noble Qur'an, the second is hadith and third has got be from the chain of narrators (isnad) - Ibn Ishaq and Ibn Hisham.
Pre-Islamic Arabia is the next subtopic in this amazing lecture on which light is shed upon and explicit details have been provided to have a clear indication of the genealogy (for instance, the types of Arabs) and it is advised to listen intently and be educated immensely.
As the series continues, we join Shaykh Yasir Qadhi in his quest to divulge ample details on the physical appearance of the Prophet ﷺ which was an amalgamation of perfect mannerisms and images.
We are acquainted with various statements made by the Sahabas attempting to describe his physical attributes. Ka’b ibn Malik compares the Prophet ﷺ to a full moon while Ar-Rubayya compares him to the rising sun. Amr ibn Al-A’as RA says that there was nothing that was more sweeter and beloved to him than to stare at the face of the Prophet ﷺ. He also mentions that along with this desire to stare at him there was also this awe and reverence that he had to lower his face.
The spiritual characteristics emanating from the Prophet ﷺ were no less in magnitude and stature. Exudance of humility, modesty, bravery, generosity, impeccable manners, a great sense of humour showing humanity was what came naturally to the Prophet ﷺ and was mesmerising to the people around him which has been indicated in various accounts. He was an embodiment of dignity and composure in the face of hardships, conflicts and calamities.
We also realise the extent of the love of the Prophet ﷺ for his Ummah and how he sacrificed his dua for his Ummah and how he would utilise it at the right time.
May Allah SWT bless us with possessing genuine love for the Prophet ﷺ.
As the Seerah of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ commences, we embark alongside Shaykh Yasir Qadhi to concentrate on the life and times of the greatest human being to have ever walked on the face of earth.
Some of the broad characteristics of the Prophet ﷺ, the Shama'il (the appearance) and the Khasa’is unique and specific characteristics only attributed to him) will also be discussed at length and one is surely left mesmerised and wanting to know more. The stature of this great man is gathered and understood with evidences of how Allah SWT name and the Prophet ﷺ name is always mentioned together.
As many as 250 names have been given to him such as Muhammed, Ahmad, Mahi, Aqib and many more. No one is more praised more than him. When will the ultimate form of praise be given to him? What is Maqam al Mahmud? Shaykh Yasir answers these questions explicitly.
Details are also divulged on how the names of the Prophet ﷺ - Muhammad and Ahmad - are used to signify different meanings and what is the context in which they are used.
Of the innumerable Khasais of our Prophet ﷺ are that- he is the final Prophet of Allah, he has been given the largest Ummah among all the Prophets, the powerful miracle of the Quran has been given to him, the miracle of Isra wal Miraj, blessed with the highest level of Jannah and many more.
Do listen intently to get acquainted with the Prophet ﷺ.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi divulges information on the topic of Shirk and provides a critical analysis of Shirk in immense detail.
The topics that are brought to the fore are basically related to the theoretical implications of Shirk and a vast canvass of thoughts are discussed.
The Qur'an is quoted in various parts of the lecture to help us achieve a clear understanding on the topic of Shirk and what it means to indulge in the same in the light of Islam.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi discusses the categorization of Shirk in a practical manner which is most apt to benefit us.
The topics discussed here are -
The Definition Of Shirk.
The Dangers Of Shirk.
Categories Of Shirk- Major and Minor
Tawheed Preceded Shirk.
The Futility Of Shirk - how the Qur'an, Sunnah, Aql and Fitrah demonstrate the same.
The Most Important Reasons For Shirk.
What Is The Ruling On The Person Who Commits Shirk.
The Most Important Evidences Used To Justify Shirk.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi sheds light on the topic of Dua being the weapon of the believer. He has also compiled a book on the same topic which can be read for interesting insights.
In this lecture, we are acquainted with the meaning of Dua, the types of Dua, the categories of people making Dua and the status and blessings of Dua.
What is Dua? Linguistically, Dua means to call out. In the Shari’ context, Dua means to request and implore Allah for something that is of benefit or that some calamity be removed or prevented. Dua is a form of worship. It is the essence or crux of worship depicting a clear sign of one’s Iman.
The types of Dua are - Dua Ul Mas’alah (Dua of asking) and Dua ul Ibadah (Dua of worship). These types are familiarized to us in explicit fashion and is truly enlightening.
The categories of people who do Dua:
Reject both types of dua
Do dua ul ibadah but reject dua ul Mas’alah.
Do dua al Mas’alah but don't do dua ul ibadah.
Do both Dua al mas’alah and Dua Ul Ibadah.
Status and blessings of Dua:
Dua is the most noble and best act of worship in the eyes of Allah.
When we make Dua, we obey Allah’s command.
The one who makes Dua makes Allah close to him.
Allah cares and loves us because of our Dua made to him.
It is a sign of Allah’s generosity.
Every single Dua will be responded to by Allah.
Dua is the weapon of the weak and the oppressed.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi now moves on to discuss at length about the preconditions of Dua, the etiquettes of Dua and the acts that are disliked during Dua.
Some of the preconditions of Dua are as follows:
The realisation that only Allah responds to the Dua we make.
Sincerity in Dua to Allah alone.
To perform Tawassul properly.
Dua for things that are good and to have good intentions.
Prayer upon the Prophet ﷺ.
That the Dua doesn't interfere with something important.
Some of the etiquettes of Dua :
Praising Allah SWT before the Dua and praying upon the Prophet SAW.
Raising one’s hands while making Dua.
Facing the Qiblah
Performing Wudu.
To expect the best from Allah.
To pray with humility and fear and to complain only to Allah.
To say Aameen.
Some of the acts that are discouraged during Dua:
Poetry in Dua.
Transgressions in Dua.
To pray for matters of this world only.
Dua to expedite punishment.
Dua for evil and hastiness in Dua.
To imply that one will not ask anything else.
To look upwards while making Dua.
To rely on others to make Dua.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi extrapolates for us the recommended timings of Dua, the factors that increase and decrease the chance of getting a Dua accepted.
The recommended timings of Dua:
Dua in the last third of the night.
Dua when the Adhan is called.
Dua between the Adhan And the Iqamah.
Dua while prostrating.
After Al Fatihah.
Dua during the Night of Decree.
Dua at Safa and Marwa.
Dua on the Day of Arafah.
Conditions during which Dua is answered:
The person who has been wronged.
The one in severe circumstances.
After a calamity.
The traveller.
The father against or for his son.
The one who is fasting or performing Hajj, Umrah or Jihad.
The factors that increase the chances of a Dua being answered:
Utmost sincerity and expecting the best from Allah.
Doing good deeds and fulfilling the rights of the parents.
Repenting from previous sins.
Dua at holy places.
Humility
The factors that decrease the chances or prevent the Dua from being answered:
Haram Sustenance
Sins
Being hasty and becoming tired.
Asking for something prohibited.
Abandoning the etiquette of Dua.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi talks about two topics - the wisdom behind a delayed response and the relationship of Dua with Qadr.
Every Dua is responded to and as opposed to what we normally assume.
Some wisdom behind a delayed response are as follows:
Allah is the Malik.
Man does not have a right over his Creator.
A delay in response is a trial.
Allah is the Most Wise.
The matter might bring evil.
Allah’s Choice is better than the choice of the servant.
Man does not know the result of his Dua.
Trials bring one closer to Allah.
Dua is the means that one uses to achieve the desired goals that one has, and this means in no way contradicts the destiny that has been written for that person. Divine Decree or Qadr cannot be made as an excuse to not make Dua. Dua is intrinsically related to Qadr so much so that it is a part of Qadr.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi gives an amazing lecture on the tree of Iman that reaps numerous fruits and benefits.
Important fruits and benefits of Iman:
Entry into Paradise (Jannah) - Allah has explicitly conveyed to us the message that Jannah is only for Muslims and not for the Kafir.
Protection from Hell (Jahannam) - whoever passes the bare minimum of Iman, he shall bypass Jahannam.
Good deeds rewarded in Hereafter - this is not the same for the Muslim who was only interested in worldly affairs. He didn't ask for the rewards in the hereafter and hence, his good deeds will be granted in this life only and will be left high and dry in the hereafter.
Forgiveness of sins - having firm Iman is a catalyst to forgive our sins and misdeeds.
Allah will defend us if we ensure we are blessed with a strong interest in Iman.
Fearing nobody except Allah - courage - having Iman blesses us with courage and fortitude that makes us fear no one.
Finding comfort in one's faith (Islam) - faith is synonymous with calming the psyche, battling negativity in our lives in the face of trouble and calamity and the with it comes the comfort of religion and also the belief that there is no soothing mechanism better than this.
A winner in every situation (never a loser in any situation) - when mankind is blessed with good, he thanks Allah and when he is in the face of a calamity, he maintains Sabr and shows perseverance.
Finding a way out in every difficulty .
Raises a person's rank in this world and Hereafter.
May Allah keep us steadfast in our goals towards reaffirmation of Faith.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi delves into a complete, precise and elaborate discussion on the famous book - Kitaab At Tawheed which was written by Muhammad Ibn Abdul Wahhab. The book is considered as the spearhead in the renovation of Islam devoid of Shirk and innovations.
What is meant by Tawheed? Shaykh Yasir elaborates on the linguistic and Islamic meanings of this profound word based on the contents of the book and makes for a very informative listen.
There are three types of Tawheed:
Tawheed Ar Ruboobiyah.
Tawheed Al Uloohiyyah.
Tawheed Al Asma Wa Sifat
We also are acquainted with the definition for Shirk and the different manifestations of the same. Also, we are made aware of what is the trait that defines a Muslim and what are the characteristics of Jinns. Moreover, the concept of Taghut is one which receives explicit treatment and we are clear on the topic via numerous analogies.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi begins the lecture with chapter of two of the book, Kitaab At Tawheed,on the topic of Tawheed with regards to the excellence and superiority of Tawheed in that if someone is able to perfect his Tawheed, then all his sins are forgiven.
Allah SWT said: "It is those who believe (in the Oneness of Allah and worship none but Him Alone) and confuse not their belief with Zulm (wrong i.e. by worshiping other besides Allah), for them (only) there is security and they are guided ones."
We are acquainted with the concept of Zulm and how avoiding it, perfects our Tawheed.
Anas RA said: He heard Allah's Messenger ﷺ saying: "Allah SWT said: “O son of Adam, were you to come to Me with the world full of sins, and meet Me without making anything partner to Me (Shirk), I would come to you with a similar amount of forgiveness."
This chapter of the book deals with numerous topics that highlight the concept of Tawheed. Of them are:
Abundance of Allah's favour.
Tauhid recompenses sins.
The Hadith narrated by Ubadah bin As-Samit RA and how this Hadith clearly elaborates on the meaning of La ilaha illa Allah .
There are seven earths like seven heavens which are comprised of all kinds of creatures.
Confirmation of the Attributes of Allah and reflection and consideration of the shared characteristics of Muhammad ﷺ.
Knowing the merits of belief in Paradise and Hell.
Knowledge that Al-Mizan (the Scale) consists of two sides.
What is meant by the mention of the "Face" (of Allah).
The chapter 4 deals with the fear of Shirk. Jabir RA narrated that Allah's Messenger ﷺ said: "Whoever meets Allah (on the Day of Judgement) not having associated anyone with Him (in worship), shall enter Paradise; and whoever meets Him having committed Shirk in any way will enter the Hell-fire."
Fear of Shirk (polytheism), showing off (Riyaa) being a type of Shirk ,falling into minor Shirk (Riyaa) being more fearful to the righteous and pious people than other matters (because of the ease, one can fall into it due to its being so subtle) and many other points are brought to the fore in this particular lecture.
The Call to testify that there is nothing deserving of Worship in truth except Allah makes up the beginning of this lecture of Shaykh Yasir Qadhi on the next chapter of the book - Kitab At Tawheed.
Ibn Abbas RA narrated: When Allah's Messenger ﷺ sent Mu'adh RA to Yemen, he said, "You will come upon the People of the Book, let your first act be to call them to testify that -There is nothing worthy of worship in truth but Allah."
Numerous pointers to gain from chapter 5 - the need to stress upon sincerity of intention, for many who supposedly call to the truth merely call to themselves, Calling people to Allah with sure knowledge is obligatory, being free of any blasphemy towards Allah, the need to spend Zakat (obligatory charity), the need to beware of the supplication of the oppressed and how it is devoid of any barrier to the supplication of the oppressed one (to be accepted) and many more such topics.
Chapter 6 deals with an explanation of Tawhid and the Testimony: La ilaha illa Allah. The Prophet ﷺ said: "He who professed that there is no God to be worshipped but Allah and made a denial of everything which the people worship besides Allah, his property and blood become inviolable, and his affair rests with Allah."
This chapter deals with concepts related to the meaning of La ilaha ilIa Allah and how it is insufficient to simply understand its evident meaning and words, to acknowledge it, or even to call on none other than Allah, Who is Alone and without partners but also rejects all else that is falsely worshipped besides Allah.
Chapter 7 deals with adopting Shirk via means of a ring, twine or similar items for prevention of Harm or Affliction.
Uqbah bin Amir RA narrated that Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: "Whoever wears talisman or an amulet would never see his wish fulfilled by Allah. And whoever hangs a sea shell would never get peace and rest." In an another version the Prophet ﷺ is reported to have said: "Whoever wears a talisman has committed Shirk (polytheism)."
The points highlighted in this chapter are related to the strict forbiddance of wearing rings, twines etc,the intense disapproval of whoever does the same, the declaration that whoever attaches something to himself will have that thing put in charge of him and the proof of the recitation of the verses of the Qur'an by Hudhaifa RA dealing with the major Shirk to condemn minor Shirk.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi moves on to discuss chapter 8 of the book that deals with Ruqa (incantation), Talismans and Amulets.
Abdullah bin Ukaim narrated, "Whoever uses, attaches or wears a talisman to himself, will have that talisman put in charge of him.”
This chapter explicitly sheds light on the topics such as incantations (Ar-Ruqa) and amulets (At- Tama'im), the explanation of bewitchment (At-Tiwalah), the benefits of reciting an incantation (Ruqyah), using words of truth, for seeking protection from evil eye or scorpion bite and that it is not like Shirk, the reward of a person who cuts off an amulet of someone and many more such relevant details are brought to the fore.
Chapter 9 deals with the issue of seeking blessing through a tree, a Stone, or the likes of it. We are provided with explanation of the verse 19 of Surah An-Najm, the two types of Shirk - major and minor, to put an end to all possible ways leading to Shirk (polytheism), prohibition of any resemblance with the people of ignorance (disbelievers) and many more such similar topics.
Chapter 10 deals with the topic of slaughtering for other than Allah SWT.we are acquainted with an explanation of the verse: "Verily my prayer, my sacrifice..." and of the verse: "Therefore turn in prayer to your Lord and sacrifice to Him only.",the beginning of the principle of cursing from those who sacrifice to other than Allah, the different situations and actions when done in which a person is deemed cursed and much more.
Chapter 11 deals with making no animal sacrifice for Allah in a place where sacrifice is made for other than Allah . here we see that disobedience of Allah leaves impressions on the earth as does obedience, how vows can be specified for a particular place so long as that place is free from anything that would prohibit doing so, how it is prohibited to fulfill the vows in a place where disbelievers had celebrated any of their recurring festivities even it was stopped since a long time and how there is no valid vow in disobedience to Allah.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi begins the discussion by divulging details on chapter 12 which is on the topic pertaining to vowing to other than Allah being an act of Shirk .Since it is approved that making a vow is an act of worship to Allah, then directing a vow to other than Allah is committing Shirk. Any vow based on disobedience (to Allah the Almighty) is impermissible.
Chapter 13 elaborates on seeking refuge in other than Allah being a part of Shirk. An explanation of the verse from Surah Al-Jinn is given and how dependence on others to seek refuge is ultimately Shirk itself though one may have gained some worldly benefit from it such as prevention from a harm or evil.
Chapter 14 deals with seeking help in other than Allah (Istighatha) or to invoke other than Him being an act of Shirk. To attach supplication or invocation with seeking assistance (Istighatha) through conjunction and calling others for help besides Allah is of no benefit in this world and it is disbelief (Kufr).
Chapter 15 elaborates on the story of Uhud, the details on the Qunut (supplication) of Allah's Messenger ﷺ in the prayer (against someone) and saying Amin of the Companions RA behind him, the meaning of the statement of Allah: "He turns in mercy to (pardons) them or punishes them" and many more such topics.
Chapter 16 deals with what the Lord has said. Here numerous topics are discussed some of which are related to the explanation of the Verse 34:23 which is a proof for the invalidation of Shirk, and how Jibreel AS is the one who conveys the revelation to wherever Allah commands, the eavesdropping of heavenly discussion by devils, the state of standing of Jinns atop of one another, falling down of shooting stars, affirmation of the Divine Attributes of Allah, the trembling and shaking of the heavens is due to the fear of Allah and that the angels fall down in prostration for Allah.
Chapters 17, 18 and 19 are elaborated upon in this lecture of the book by Shaykh Yasir Qadhi.
Chapter 17 deals with the topic of intercession. Here various topics are discussed such as the descriptions of rejected and affirmed intercession, the "Greatest Intercession" being the intercession of the Prophet ﷺ, description of what the Prophet ﷺ will do on the Day of Judgement and how he will not begin by making intercession but will prostrate and when he is given permission he will intercede, the blessed and the happiest of people who will be blessed with the intercession of the Prophet ﷺ, failure of intercession who committed Shirk and much more.
Chapter 18 deals with the topic of how Allah guides whom He wills. Here we are acquainted with numerous topics among which are explanations of many verses such as : "Verily, you (O Muhammad) guide not whom you like, but Allah guides whom He wills. And He knows best those who are the guided ones." (28:56) ,the eagerness and intense desire of the Prophet ﷺ to convert his uncle to Islam, the harmful influence that evil companions can have on people, the harm of over praising ancestors and important personalities, how the arguments of falsifiers are the arguments of Jahiliyyah and much more.
Chapter 19 deals with the topic - Excessive Dogma in the Righteous Persons is the Root Cause of Infidelity of Mankind and its deviation from True Religion. Here the topics brought to the fore deal with the explanation of the verse in Surah Nuh (71:23), how human nature towards the truth weakens in the heart while falsehood increases, confirmation of the sayings of righteous predecessors that heresy (Bid'ah) is the main cause leading to Kufr (disbelief) , excess and exaggeration (in the righteous ones) is prohibited, and knowledge of what it leads to, the harm of seclusion at the grave even with the intention of performing a righteous deed, the prohibition against statues and the wisdom in destroying them and many more such points.
Shaykh Yasir Qadhi divulges explicit details of Chapters 20 to 23 which highlights the stance of the Shariah on the acts of showing veneration towards graves of Prophet, saints and other holy people.
The Prophet ﷺ said: “May Allah curse the Jews and the Christians, for they have taken the graves of their Prophets as places of worship.”
Jundub reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say five days before he passed away, “I stand acquitted before Allah that I took any one of you as an intimate friend, for Allah has taken me as His intimate friend, just as he took Abraham as His friend. Had I taken any one of my nation as an intimate friend, I would have taken Abu Bakr as my friend. Verily, those before you turned the graves of their prophets and righteous into places of worship, so do not take graves as places of worship. I forbid you from doing that.”
Jabir reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prohibited plastering the graves, sitting upon them, and building structures over them.
Abu Sa’id al-Khudri reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “The entire earth has been made a place of prayer, except for graveyards and washrooms.”

Here numerous topics make the cut such the explanation of the verse in AI-Baqarah (2:165) and in At-Taubah (9:24), how we must love Prophet Muhammad ﷺ more than ourselves, families, and wealth, how Iman has a sweetness that is sometimes tasted by a person and sometimes not, how no one can get the friendship of Allah and relish of Iman until and unless he possesses four "actions" of the heart -love for the sake of Allah, hate for the sake of Allah, friendship for the sake of Allah and enmity for the sake of Allah, the threat of punishment for the person who loves more the "eight" than his religion which means his ancestors, descendants, brothers, spouses, clan, wealth, trade and habitat and that whoever takes a partner (to Allah) for whom he has as much love as he has for Allah, has committed major Shirk.
Chapter 32 deals with how we should fear Allah Alone. Topics that have been discussed in detail are - explanation of the verse in Al-'Imran (3:175), At- Taubah(9:.18) and in Al-'Ankabut (29: 10), how there is a fluctuation in the Faith, the signposts of a decline in the strength of Iman, the reward of a person who fears Allah Alone with utmost sincerity and the punishment of a person who does not have fear of Allah.

Chapter 38 tells us that whoever obeys the Scholars and the Rulers, forbidding what Allah has made permissible and permitting what He has made forbidden, has certainly taken them as Lords (besides Allah). The topics that are addressed here are - pointing out the meaning of worship that was initially denied by Adi RA and how conditions have changed to the point that the worship of monks has become the best of deeds under the name of Al-Wilayah (sainthood), while the worship of learned men in religion is considered knowledge and understanding.

Chapter 40 is about those who denies any of the Names and Attributes of Allah.
