Two legends in the music industry, Larry Chance and Billy Vera announce their rendition of the timely classic, Stand By Me. It was a simple enough gift, but within it’s pages it opened the world to me. It was only an 1 inch thick. It’s glossy pages often stuck together, until they were carefully separated by my small fingers, where their colors and magnificence unveiled and burst forth. The pages smelled of ink and what I imagine a photographer’s dark room must smell like, chemicals and developing fluids. My grandmother had bought me a year subscription for National Geographic, and I fell in love with photography. Month after month my mailbox brought me another gift. The gift of seeing the world, imagining the far off places. I would spend hours, laying on the floor, slowly flipping the pages. My imagination could not be contained, and I made up stories from the photographs that I saw. This is a story for all of you artists out there who have a dream, but are overwhelmed by the seemingly massive obstacles to overcome to reach those dreams Debbie Wileman rose to fame during the pandemic when all the creatives - got creative! Debbie used her instrument (her voice) as an outlet and created ‘a song a day’ which simply were videos of her dressed in character and singing. The videos were posted on her personal Facebook page and were only intended to uplift and inspire her friends in the height of the pandemic (at the time it was 300 some odd friends) Now she nearing max capacity on a personal page! Anywho, back then, she pledged to post 'a song a day' - That went on for 100 consecutive days. Among these videos were her spot on Judy Garland impersonations (in addition to Dusty Springfield, Patsy Cline, Liza Minnelli, Shirley Bassey, Adele, Lady Gaga and many other luminaries). Her song a day videos went viral and garnered over 1 million hits in no time. The videos also caught the attention of Steve Orich, the Grammy Award winning orchestrator (Jersey Boys) and manager / promoter/ producer, Scott Stander. The two of them have produced Debbie’s debut album, "I’m Still Here”, a Judy Garland celebratory album featuring her songs and songs that they felt Judy would sing today. Now that a Grammy Award winning orchestrator and manager went knocking on her door, she has an album and just finished a US tour. Talk about the power of social media! My Special Guest is Guitar Virtuoso Nate Najar It’s been a couple of years since Nate Najar has joined us with his guitar. That was when he brought us his beautiful album, “Under Paris Skys.” This is true, I probably listen to this album a couple times a week with my morning coffee, or when I need to bring down the stress level in my office, I play Under Paris Skys. The music has this calming “take me away” quality, it takes me to Paris outside the train station at a French cafe, the kind of cafe with a person shucking oysters outside for passers by. With my friends, preparing to board a train to Venice. Having a glass of red wine before boarding, and buying a couple extra bottles tucked into paper bags for the overnight journey. It takes me to Firenze, sitting eating cheese, salami and baguettes, watching the setting sun sparkle off of the roof of the Duomo. So I have been looking forward to a new album by Nate Najar, and now my wait is over. So is yours. Bassist: Scott Spray – Grammy Nominated Bassist and Songwriter, recorded on over 750 albums, and a longtime touring and recording member of the Johnny and Edgar Winter Groups. Drummer: Lee Finkelstein – Drummer with The Original Blues Brothers Band, who while not touring, works regularly with Jazz Guitarist John Tropea, and Felicia Collins of David Letterman’s CBS Orchestra. Percussionist: Eddie Torres – Turning the beat around from the Vickie Sue Robinson band. Guitar: Andy Abel – well-known Connecticut native who’s done shows with Blood Sweat and Tears, Talking Heads, Chieli Minucci & Marion Meadows.
