Virginia is our pick to be, clearly, the best team in the ACC. But who's the best player? Best freshman? How many tournament teams are going to come out of a league that had only four tournament locks last season? On Sunday, The Athletic broke the news that Arizona has been assessed with nine NCAA violations, including five of the worst variety, by the NCAA. One of them is a Level I toward coach Sean Miller. The podcasts first 30 minutes touch on that (and Norlander's back from vacation), and then at the 30-minute mark, GP and Norlander react in real time to the news that, following Norlander's report from Sunday, ESPN has decided to kill all of its games and multi-team events scheduled to be held from Nov. 25-Dec. 4 in Orlando at Walt Disney World. That has huge scheduling fallout, of course. Will it lead to conferences opting to go league-only? Maybe.

The NCAA's Division I Council voted on multiple significant items on Wednesday, and two of them we get into on this podcast: 1) all winter-sport athletes get an extra year of eligibility no matter what, which clearly will have a big impact on college basketball. No. 2) When the vote is passed in January, every NCAA scholarship athlete will be able to transfer without having to sit a season the FIRST time they opt to do so. So those two topics, in addition to how Olivier Sarr's situation at Kentucky fits into all this. The podcast wraps with the latest on Gregg Marshall, who on Wednesday denied every physically assaulting anyone with his program. It's a denial Parrish and Norlander did not anticipate, and certainly not six days after the allegations surfaced.

On Thursday evening, two reports dropped that revealed Wichita State has been investigating its coach, Gregg Marshall, after allegations of multiple incidents of physical and verbal abuse over the past half-decade. One story, via Stadium's Jeff Goodman, cites 26 former players and 10 former coaches giving credibility to the accusations. Marshall's job is clearly in jeopardy.

News: the NBA Draft's initial target date of Oct. 16 will be pushed back, with the new target being Nov. 18. That in mind, our Draft Profiles series continues with a player who could go as high as No. 4 or as low as No. 11: Auburn freshman Isaac Okoro. If you look at what Okoro does well right now and compare it to what Kawhi Leonard did well a decade ago, it's fairly surprising. We don't think Okoro will be a Finals MVP one day, but we do think his ceiling is what's going to get him drafted high.

The NBA Draft lottery is two weeks away. Whatever teams land in the No. 1, 2 and 3 spots of that lottery will heavily weigh selecting Georgia's Anthony Edwards. He's a lock to go in the top five. The NCAA’s deadline to withdraw from the 2020 NBA Draft isn’t until next week — but Baylor’s MaCio Teague went ahead and made a decision (1:20). He’ll be back at Baylor. And now, provided Jared Butler also withdraws from the draft, Scott Drew’s Bears look like they’ll be the preseason favorite in the Big 12. So Gary Parrish and Kyle Boone opened this episode of the Eye On College Basketball podcast by discussing Baylor (and the Big 12 in general) before reacting to news that conferences are largely turning toward league-only football schedules (18:30). What, if anything, does that mean for college basketball? Filip Petrusev would’ve been a First Team A-A pick in the preseason had he opted to return, but that’s not the case. Parrish and Norlander react to the news and differ on where they’d slot the Zags heading into the fall. For the second straight Monday, a No. 1-rated basketball recruit has proven skeptics wrong and announced a commitment to playing college basketball over more lucrative alternatives. On Monday, Emoni Bates made his choice to play for Michigan State, if and when he's eligible to do so. Bates is in the class of 2022 and has made no clear intention of reclassifying to 2021. Bates, 16, regarded as one of the two or three best prospects this century. Will he wind up playing for Tom Izzo? Norlander and Parrish both say yes and present the evidence and indications as to why. The second half of the pod is dedicated to the Big East and UConn (28:00), a reunion which will become official on Wednesday. A tragedy in Minneapolis -- the murder of George Floyd by a white police officer -- has catalyzed and sparked worldwide protest efforts to weed out systemic racism. College basketball and its leaders can be agents for true, overdue change in this country. Today's podcast focuses on the conversations Gary Parrish and Matt Norlander have had with coaches and players in college basketball this week. They touch on first-hand accounts from black coaches and the systemic racism they've encountered at the hands of law enforcement in the past. Parrish wrote this week about Rhode Island coach David Cox. In New Mexico, a team came together to protest peacefully. Norlander at one point references this story, first published at CBS Sports in 2016, where coaches shared their stories of encounters with law enforcement. There is also a movement afoot, sparked by Georgia Tech assistant Eric Reveno (31:00), who tweeted earlier this week that the NCAA should make November's Election Day a mandatory day off for all of college athletics in order to afford players and coaches alike the opportunity and time to vote

College basketball's had some interesting headlines the past few days, huh? A pandemic isn't slowing talking points or salaciousness in this sport, no way. Today's ep opens up with some quarantine catchup, which then segues into Gary Parrish and Matt Norlander discussing a question Parrish asked this week: if professors aged 60-and-up are being advised to not return for in-person teaching on campuses in the fall, then where does that leave the many college coaches of that age? Monday brought yet another big headline for college basketball. It's the offseason, coronavirus is still very much a threat to the United States, but the news cycle in college hoops will now slow. Louisville announced it had received its notice of allegations from the NCAA. There is one Level I allegation and a few more Level II charges, including a notable one against former coach Rick Pitino. On Thursday Wake Forest completed its five-day coaching-search process by deciding that ETSU caoch Steve Forbes will be the one to replace Danny Manning. This emergency pod is dedicated almost entirely to that, in addition to a potentially messy situation that awaits Wake Forest. It appears that the school is going to try and not pay Manning his $15 million buyout. Obviously Manning wants his money. As for Forbes, he amassed a 130-43 record with the Buccaneers and guided ETSU to the 2017 and NCAA Tournament. The team would have gone back this year if not for COVID-19 cancelling the Big Dance. Get informed on what could be the only major-conference coaching change of 2020 in college sports.

Wednesday was a historic day in NCAA history. The organization, through the power of its Board of Governors, announced that name, image and likeness legislation has been approved, with the vote going into action come January of 2021. There are obviously issues and criticisms, two of which stab at the heart of all of this, so Gary Parrish and Matt Norlander make it much clearer in the first 30 minutes just how much still needs to be done and where the NCAA is going to find itself in some trouble. There's some basketball to discuss as well. After Sunday's NBA Draft decision deadline (34:20), Norlander lists the eight biggest stay-or-go decisions that remain, plus five other really good players in the draft pool he thinks will inevitably return to college basketball. The podcast definitely loses the plot around the 52-minute mark, so you've got that to look forward to as well.
