Today I am lucky enough to interview Sarah Chadwick, author of “The Sweetness of Venus”. She is passionate about sex equality, gender studies, humor and learning. Her book is dedicated to: “This book is for all those who have a clitoris, or the opportunity to engage with one.” Why she wrote this book! You talk about how the clitoris is lost and found and lost and found throughout documented history. “17th-century under-the-table narrative about sex has a strong emphasis on mutual pleasure that is noticeably lacking in many of today’s sex-ed books and in too many sex-ed classes.” Why don’t we tell girls and boys about this aspect of a woman’s anatomy? We discuss the female condition of being frigid – now we have a medical disorder if we don’t orgasm with PIV sex. In 1994 U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Jocelyn Elders suggested sex should be mentioned as safe and healthy in school curricula. In answer to a question at the UN Conference on AIDS as to whether she thought teaching about masturbation in schools might reduce unsafe sex, she replied: “I think that is something that is part of human sexuality and it’s part of something that should perhaps be taught. But we’ve not even taught our children the very basics.” She was forced to resign by Bill Clinton as a consequence.” 1966 – The sexually adequate female “Frank S. Caprio, M.D., recommends “psychiatric assistance” for any woman who prefers clitoral stimulation to other forms of sexual activity. ” How did views about female morality come to be bound up with women’s sexuality? How is sharing this on social media going? Are we allowed to say clitoris? Can you talk about the American versus UK approach to menopause care? Our emphasis on “natural” and the pressure to be “natural” https://www.instagram.com/its.personalgirls/ The Sweetness of Venus: A History of the Clitoris Sarah Chadwick https://amzn.to/3ppAzd5 --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/kj-casperson/message

Why is this such a big deal for men (pun intended?)

It is not associated with height, sperm count or any thing else.

Warning – we are going to tell you what is average in length for this body part.

Most people are normal.

What women make their partner's penile function mean and how to talk about it.

Sex While Fat

25 min
View

Physicians get trained to be biased against overweight individuals - that doesn't help us feel great about ourselves which then can translate into the bedroom.

I LOVE talking with Dr. Hart who a sexual medicine physician in Canada at

https://www.sexualfunctionclinic.com

Body positivity, mindset, myths about body size and sex

The medical system and fat phobia – we are very judgy.

You will “never be good enough to…” if you don’t change your mind.

We discuss chasing “I thought I would be happy when” thoughts.

“if you are having a sex life problem get help, don’t just assume it is your weight”

We discuss black and white thinking when it comes to weight and hear Dr. Hart’s journey.

“A sex therapist is always the answer” – but it isn’t always covered in Canada or the US – here are some tips if you can’t access a therapist.
We discuss mindfulness, our ANTs (automatic negative thoughts) and the flaws in logic about our thinking about our body.

“Body positivity is a journey, not a goal”

“Muscles are associated with longevity and health – and they weigh a lot.”

“We can and should be healthy – we shouldn’t focus on the scale”

BONUS! Book Club with Dr. Laurie Mintz

36 min
View

Welcome along with me and Dr. Laurie Mintz and a cohort of female physicians as we do a book club on her amazing book, “Becoming Cliterate”

Why she wrote the book.

Why the knowledge of female anatomy and pleasure keeps getting lost.

Her new inspiration to educate young men.  And her informal poll on what the guys want.

Learn who started researching the orgasm gap in the first place.

How many different types of orgasms are possible and do they all come from the clitoris or from many different places – and why do we even care?

The idea of “consent” when you have sex that you don’t really want to or do it as a “duty or obligation”

Her wish for physicians to help their patients.

Dr. Laurie Mintz is a feminist author, therapist, professor, and speaker whose life’s work has been committed to helping people live more authentic, meaningful, joyful—and sexually satisfying—lives through the art and science of psychology.

Background story - how she got into sexuality education and therapy?

Everyone cares about a woman’s libido – but I want to ask – are women just having boring sex?

Tell us the stats about orgasmic inequality and how this ties in to affecting a woman’s libido

The orgasm gap is even worse for the hook up culture – can you tell us the data and why it is concerning.

What is her opinion on scheduling sex?

She talks about stress and overwork as top reasons for lowered sex life – my women say “oh yeah” but what should they actually do about it.

She says that “empowerment in the bedroom leads to confidence in the boardroom” – please tell us more.

In her “tired guide” book you say there is no pill for desire – that book was 2009 – now there is a pill and an injection – what are her thoughts about these?

If someone asked me to re-do sex ed for our youth – I would include pleasure, vulvar anatomy, the lie that PIV causes orgasms for women – what would you add?

I want to ask her about three women and hear her advice

A 20 yo single, just starting out

A 38 yo, married, kids, full time job – lost her libido, doesn’t enjoy sex

A 58 yo, post menopause, kids out of the house, husband feels like a roomate

What her opinion of us educators not being able to use or being afraid of saying certain words on

For the Men! Sex Surrogacy and Coaching

44 min
View

Today we welcome Erika Davian – we are both certified at the Life coach school and someone connected us!

I had been saying that someone ought to coach the men! And then she showed up in my life!

Today we are learning about surrogate partner therapy with her.

We need to pay attention to the men too! And we are in this episode! She tells us how she got into this niche.

She helps millennial men cultivate the confidence to create the life they want in and out of the bedroom. She helps them show up as themselves.

A myth is that “straight men have it so easy” when in fact they have a lot of pressure to “be” a certain way as much if not more than other people.

She  quickly saw that some clients-- particularly younger clients-- thought their sexual dysfunction was purely physiological, when really, the psychological component was playing as big or an even bigger role.

What is a common limiting belief or scenarios that men have about sexuality?

“Anxiety and erections are not good bedfellows”

“there is one way to please a woman” is very pervasive.

“things are problems because we think they are problems”

She says - I’ve seen men encounter sexual dysfunction and shame, simply because their mind was sabotaging their body’s ability to perform.

Tips for men to start talking to their partner about sex.

Tips for premature ejaculation.

You help men manage their mind – what are some common themes that you see?

Sex for Women and Men - a YANB lecture

37 min
View

Join me on a lecture I gave to some surgeons (some of my favorite people BTW).

I discuss - sexual normative roles and how that affects our personal sex lives.

We were taught “sex negative” education – don’t get pregnancy or infections, save it for marriage

What happens when the novelty of sex wears off

Is desire a circumstance, a feeling, a result? Where do we put it in a coaching model.

Desire and sex for women.

What do I mean by crappy sex?

Sex, surgery and mindfulness

Normalizing responsive desire

Sleep and a happy sex life/drive

What is responsive desire?

How alcohol works with the brain to hurt/help our sex drive

Why older people have great sex

Why our thoughts about our spouse helps or hurts our sex life – and our thoughts are completely under our control.

Do you desire what you already have?

Why textbooks dedicate way more space to male sexual organs than female.

Anatomy lesson

Why PIV sex doesn’t work for female orgasms

Are you “should-ing” all over your sex life?

We finish this episode with some coaching on our sex life – we use the “model” from The Life Coach School.

If you want a good sex life you can’t be passive about it.

What does a sexually satisfied woman do well?

Founder and CEO of The No BS Weightloss Program

Corinne Crabtree is a top ranked health podcaster, Master Weight loss and Life Coach, motivational speaker, and all around badass. She's an expert in the field of weight loss where she teaches her unique No BS Weight loss Program that helps women lose weight the way they want to live their lives. She is known for telling it like it is, showing up looking sassy or showing up with morning hair getting sassy. She lets nothing stop her from helping her women figure out their shit so they can live the healthy life of their dreams.

She has a passion to change women’s lives – she wants to teach every woman to lose weight for good and feel as amazing as she deserves.

What I love about Corinne is she gets women to “stand up” – taking ownership for their lives – which is what I want them to do in the bedroom.

We should talk about desire – so many people think it is a product to have  - kinda like weight loss – instead of realizing the power is in their brain. How do you think about sex, desire, wanting and our choice in the matter.

Let’s talk about what self love looks like.

“motivation is earned”

Let’s talk about motivation – for weight loss, for a healthy sex life.

She says “weight loss will only happen on the outside when you learn the skill to change what happens on the inside.”

I will enjoy life/sex when I am thin – talk about how toxic these thoughts are.

Let’s talk about “stop talking shit to yourself”

Body shaming versus telling people they can be the healthiest that they want to be – we discuss a sensitive and complex topic.

“People spend too much time allowing self-doubt to be the main conversation”.

Top 4 things for weight loss!

Okay, practical tip time – late night snacking. Help.

“Don’t make out your thinking to be the problem.....it is also the solution."

“love yourself enough to try”

7 SIMPLE Ways To INCREASE Her Pleasure

20 min
View

For the Men!!
Oh come on, it is for the women too!

Body part warning:  I call a male body part a name in this podcast - truly I mean no harm and no shame and no hate.  It is only to point out that we can question what we are doing and break down the idea that PIV sex is the default and gold standard.  All my love to ALL BODIES and ALL BODY PARTS.

Suffering from a dry spell with your partner? Do you feel like your sex life has tanked? In this podcast, I collaborate with Dr. Rena Malik, a fellow urologist, to share with you 7 tips to help increase your female partner's pleasure!

Dr. Kelly Casperson's Backstory

Tip #1 Schedule time for Sex  - Desire isn't even necessary - don't take this the wrong way - I NEVER mean do it when you don't want to do it - rather that for a lot of women, desire arises while doing.  And some people don't believe in scheduling as it makes it a "chore" - think of it more as prioritizing your intimate life with yourself and your partner.  Like you will forget to go on a date unless it is scheduled because life gets too busy - kind of thing.

Tip #2 Know your Female Anatomy -  What exactly is the G-Spot? Focus on the Outside Structures

Tip #3 Prioritize her, it's not all about you

Tip #4 Go Slow

Tip #5 Use Lubricants

Tip #6 Meet in the middle based on your desires

Tip #7 Communication is key

The "Stress No Sex" Cycle

33 min
View

The brain is either having sex or In survival mode.

Dr. Vanessa Calderón, MD, MPP is a Life Coach and Scientist and emergency medicine physician. She uses the perfect combination of evidence-based tools and thought work to help working women solve everyday problems.

She’s the Wellness and Resilience Director for a national physician organization

She has spent over half a decade reconnecting healthcare providers to their original purpose in medicine through education and professional coaching.

We were in the same life coach school and we certified in April 2020! So fun to coach with her!

She has training in resiliency and stress management and was hoping we could talk about burnout/stress, it's effect on sex drive/relationships

Let’s talk about how to not get stuck in the "stress and no-sex" cycle.

Learn how stress turns off the reproductive cycle

Stress affects the physical and psychological system – and both affect your sex life

Taking initiative to improve one’s sex life means often getting started with something you have never done before – we talk about goals and how it is the journey that matters.

Women’s wandering minds and sex - why mindfulness is key.

How to break the stress cycle.

We treat sex like it is a scarcity. It is actually plentiful, abundant.

One thing we learn about in life coach school is how our thoughts create our feelings. I think Desire is a fun topic because it can be a C, a T, a F and probably an action or a Result – crazy!

How do you think about Desire?

Uncompromising Intimacy

53 min
View
Listen to this with your partner! So much talk about partner communication I am so excited to talk to Dr. Alexandra Stockwell. We officially met on a panel for sexperts in October 2020! Which are really the only panels I should sit on these days as they are so fun! She is on a mission to change the cultural narrative around long-term relationships from one of stagnation and companionship to the delectable joy a couple can feel when they build passion and excitement to nourish them both. How do you define a “juicy” relationship? Why people compromise in their relationships. Great sex in a long-term relationship is no accident – talk about the myth of why people think it should be easy or not take work. Tips for becoming a better lover. Why did you write “uncompromising intimacy”? There is a couple – late 60’s – early 70s….he watches porn, turns down her advances – she keeps asking for sex…she states she is torn between divorce and suicide……where would you start? So many women fake orgasm – give me your thoughts on that. You have said that “Humans learn by observation or modeling” – I totally fell in love with that statement. How does that apply to your work? We were talking in January about a stat that 49% of women in their 50s stop having sex – then we had to nerd out and look that up. What do we tell women in their 40s/50s about the next decade of life with their spouse? People are afraid to talk about sex – but it is the vulnerability and communication that actually builds intimacy – people feel entitled to intimacy without doing the hard work. Underneath every complaint is a desire. How to have sex like a woman! Okay, tell us about your programs, how to find/follow you and get your book! Uncompromising Intimacy: Turn your unfulfilling marriage into a deeply satisfying, passionate partnership. https://amzn.to/2UCQZmA The Marriage Podcast with Dr. Alexandra Stockwell: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-marriage-podcast/id1548060690 --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/kj-casperson/message

Optimal Sex - Learn From the Pros

14 min
View

Today I report on a paper that interviewed individuals with great sex lives.  Yes, surprise, they tended to be older!  Older and wiser!

Dr. Kleinplatz is the lead author on this 2009 paper and I run through their six-ish top traits that people with optimized sex lives share. Hint - good sex is not just the absence of dysfunction. AND - NONE of it was "I have a spontaneous sex drive"!  This is good news for all of us!

I have too much content so I need to start releasing more than once a week!  Eeek!  What a good problem to have!  This week I did a live webinar to the Multiple Sclerosis society about Sexuality - specifically female but I do talk about viagra (okay I just mention it once).  It is a whirlwind talk and I do some great Menopause and Hormone myth busting at the end during the Q&A.  This talk applies to everyone!  Not just those living or caring for people with MS.  Enjoy! --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/kj-casperson/message
