A native of Charlotte, NC, Matt graduated from U.S. Naval Academy in 1991 with a B.S. in Ocean Engineering.  He graduated Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL (BUD/S) training in 1992 with class 179 and was subsequently assigned to the East Coast where he served in various SEAL Teams,  SEAL Delivery Vehicle Teams and Naval Special Warfare Development Group (NSWDG). Matt commanded at every level in the Naval Special Warfare Community to include a Squadron at  NSWDG, SEAL Team TWO, Naval Special Warfare Unit THREE, and Naval Special Warfare Group FOUR.  He served staff tours at the Joint Special Operations Command in Fort Bragg, NC; as the Operations Officer at Naval Special Warfare Group TWO in Virginia Beach, VA;  and in the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Special Operations and Low-Intensity Conflict (ASD SO/LIC) in the Pentagon.

Jack is a 32-year veteran of the Central Intelligence Agency (“CIA”). Mr. Devine served as both Acting Director and Associate Director of CIA’s operations outside the United States from 1993-1995, where he had supervisory authority over thousands of CIA employees involved in sensitive missions throughout the world. In addition, he served as Chief of the Latin American Division from 1992-1993 and was the principal manager of the CIA’s sensitive projects in Latin America.
Between 1990 and 1992, Mr. Devine headed the CIA’s Counternarcotics Center, which was responsible for coordinating and building close cooperation between all major U.S. and foreign law enforcement agencies in tracking worldwide narcotics and crime organizations. From 1985-1987, Mr. Devine headed the CIA’s Afghan Task Force, which successfully countered Soviet aggression in the region. In 1987, he was awarded the CIA’s Meritorious Officer Award for this accomplishment.
Mr. Devine’s international experience with the U.S. government included postings to Latin America and Europe. During his more than 30 years with the CIA, Mr. Devine was involved in organizing, planning and executing countless sensitive projects in virtually all areas of intelligence, including analysis, operations, technology and management.

Alex Plitsas is a nonresident senior fellow with the Middle East Programs’ N7 Initiative, a partnership between the Atlantic Council and Jeffrey M. Talpins Foundation working to strengthen and deepen Arab-Israeli normalization. Additionally, he is currently a principal and industry director for aerospace and defense and high-tech electronics at Providence Consulting Group where he oversees and leads industry-focused teams who conduct business and digital-transformation projects for enterprise resource-planning software systems. Previously, Plitsas served as the director for strategic operations for a high-tech electronics company servicing the aerospace and defense industry and as a chief of staff at the world’s largest hedge fund, Bridgewater Associates. He completed his federal service as the chief of sensitive activities for special operations and combating terrorism in the Office of the Secretary of Defense, where he oversaw policy and operations for compartmented plans and programs. He was also detailed from the Pentagon to the Intelligence Community, representing the secretary of defense as a senior member of the White House Hostage Policy Review Team. Plitsas also worked as a strategic planner for the undersecretary of defense for intelligence, where he was deployed to Afghanistan. He also deployed twice to Iraq, once in uniform leading a psychological operations team during “the surge” and fighting in the Battle of Sadr City, and a second time as a civilian working in the Special Programs Office at United State Forces–Iraq Headquarters. Plitsas has also worked as a program manager and contractor for several tier-1 aerospace and defense companies, such as Northrop Grumman, in between stints in the federal government and military service.

Dante Paradiso is the current Director of the Office of East African Affairs and a career member of the Senior Foreign Service. He most recently served as a Senior Advisor to the Special Envoy for Afghanistan Reconciliation, and immediately before that as Director for Peace and Reconciliation at US Embassy Kabul. In previous tours he has been Charge d’Affaires and Deputy Chief of Mission at US Embassy Libreville, Economic and Political Counselor at US Consulate Hong Kong, Special Assistant to the Assistant Secretary for African Affairs, and Brigade Senior Civilian Representative with Task Force Mountain Warrior and Task Force Bastogne in Jalalabad, Afghanistan. Dante has also had diplomatic assignments in Beijing, Ethiopia, Liberia, Combined Joint Task Force – Horn of Africa, and, as an intern political officer, Tanzania. Before joining the Foreign Service, Dante practiced bank regulatory law with Goodwin LLP in Boston. Dante is from New York. He received a BA from Yale University and a JD from UCLA School of Law. He is married to US diplomat Darragh Paradiso.

Eric Vélez-Villar was named assistant director of the Office of Private Sector in October 2021. The Office of Private Sector, under the FBI Intelligence Branch, strengthens partnerships between the FBI and the private sector. Mr. Vélez-Villar, a retired special agent, had most recently worked in the private sector. Mr. Vélez-Villar started his FBI career as a computer scientist in the San Juan Field Office in Puerto Rico. He became a special agent in 1992 and worked organized crime and drug cases in the McAllen Resident Agency of the San Antonio Field Office in Texas. He transferred to the San Juan office in 1997 and worked public corruption cases and violent crime. In 2000, Mr. Vélez-Villar was promoted to supervisory special agent in the Drug Section of the Criminal Investigative Division at FBI Headquarters. He was detailed to the Drug Enforcement Administration for two years. In 2002, he transferred to the Santa Ana Resident Agency of the Los Angeles Field Office, where he worked organized crime cases before he was reassigned to supervise the Orange County Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF). Mr. Vélez-Villar was promoted to assistant special agent in charge of the Los Angeles counterterrorism program in 2004, overseeing three regional JTTFs. Mr. Vélez-Villar was promoted to deputy director of the Terrorist Screening Center in 2006, then returned to Los Angeles as the special agent in charge of the office’s Intelligence Division in 2007. In 2009, he was named deputy assistant director in the Directorate of Intelligence at FBI Headquarters, in charge of the Intelligence Operations Branch. In 2012, he was promoted to assistant director of the Directorate of Intelligence and was elevated to executive assistant director of the Intelligence Branch in 2014. He retired in 2016 and served as a vice president for security at the Walt Disney Company. He also established a security consulting firm. Mr. Vélez-Villar earned a bachelor’s degree from the Inter-American University of Puerto Rico and an MBA from the University of Southern California.

Born and raised in Milwaukee Wisconsin, Rick joined the U.S. Navy at age 17. He attended Basic Underwater Demolition SEAL (BUD/S) training Class 109 in Coronado, CA. Rick was assigned to SEAL Team TWO in Little Creek, VA in 1980. He served at SEAL Team TWO from 1980 until 1985, specializing in winter warfare, combat diving, and sniping until he was selected for duty at SEAL Team SIX in 1985.
In 1993, Rick received the Silver Star Medal for Valor during the Battle of Mogadishu (Black Hawk Down). He served at ST-6 from 1985 through October of 2012. During his time at ST-6, Rick acted as sniper, explosives expert, lead training Chief, sniper team leader, and Deputy Operations Officer.
Rick continues to serve his country and fellow SEALs by helping to educate others about this unique special operations force and further the Frogman heritage as the Chief Executive Officer of the National Navy UDT-SEAL Museum. Rick is married to Barbara Kaiser and has two children, Emily and Eric. Rick and Barbara currently reside in Vero Beach,

I joined the US Navy in 1964.  After training I served at Naval Air Station, Litchfield Park, just outside of Phoenix, Arizona.  After a year there I was sent to the USS Arlington AGMR2 for pre commissioning of the ship.  The time went on so I served on Yard Tug boat's in Norfolk, Virginia, then I served for a couple of month's on the USS Denebola AF56 (Refrigeration ship)  When I returned to Norfolk I decided to put in for Vietnam and was sent to DaNang, Vietnam.  After 22 month's I was discharged and then joined the US Army, Special Forces.  I went through Basic infantry, then advanced infantry (graduated as the honor student) then I went to jump school in Ft. Benning, Georgia. Then up to Ft. Bragg for Special Forces training.  I asked to go back to Vietnam and did.  I was sent to A-502, 5th SFGp Abn, out of NaTrang, Vietnam.  I was the NCOIC of a CIDG camp 554, Sui Dou.  Then after after 6 month's or so, the camp closed down so I went to SOA-CCC (MACV-SOG)  I was 1-1 of Rt. Delaware for one mission then became the 1-0 (team leader)  I ran 7 mission's (4 linear recon and 3 brightlight missions) in Laos or Cambodia.  After my 7th mission I was asked if I wanted to go to SOA-B53 and teach Special Op's mission's.  I said ok and went to B-53 for an additional 6 month's.  Then I was discharged and came home and joined the 12th SFGpAbn (reserves).  In 1978 I did a cross service transfer to the 129th ARRS, USAF Pararescue. I left the Army as an E-8 and dropped to E-6 in the USAF.  After completing  Pararescue school, I was a PJ.  I was a rescue, parachuting paramedic for the first 3 launches of the Space Shuttle (STS-1, 2 and 3) also for the Mt. St. Helens Volcano eruption.  President Carter and Senator Ted Kennedy.  Also did 2 parachute rescue mission's for ship's at sea and a few hoist mission's.  After an injury parachuting, I was medically discharged from the service.  I had 20 year in service so I got out and went to college to become a Doctor (Radiologist)  I did this for 20 years and now I hunt, sell and collect meteorite's.

Matt Brazil is a Senior Analyst at BluePath Labs and a Senior Fellow at The Jamestown Foundation. He pursued Chinese studies as an undergraduate at UC Berkeley, as an Army officer with tours in Korea and NSA, and as a graduate student at Harvard in their Regional Studies East Asia program. After a stint as the China specialist for the Commerce Department’s Office of Export Enforcement, he was assigned as a Commercial Officer with the US Embassy, Beijing, where he both promoted and controlled US high technology exports to China. Afterward, Matt spent 20 years as a security professional, performing investigations in China for a chip manufacturer, and leading the development of a security organization in China for an American specialty chemicals firm. His PhD dissertation at the University of Sydney (2013) described the place in the Chinese Communist Party of their intelligence organs. That and further research led to his contribution as the coauthor of Chinese Communist Espionage, An Intelligence Primer (2019). Matt is also the author of the China chapter in the Handbook of Asian Intelligence Cultures (2022). His next book concerns Beijing’s contemporary worldwide espionage and influence offensive.

Michael “Mick” Patrick Mulroy is the former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense (DASD) for the Middle East. As the DASD, he was responsible for defense policy for 15 countries and represented the Department of Defense of national policy in that area. He is also a retired CIA Paramilitary Operations Officer in the Special Activities Center and a United States Marine. He is a Senior Fellow for the Middle East Institute, an ABC News National Security Analyst, and a Co-founder of Lobo Institute.

Phil Campion was given up for adoption at birth. He ended up with violent adoptive parents and was sent to a series of children's homes. He left school at 16 and with no qualifications to his name, he saw himself as fit for one thing only - the life of a soldier. Jay Dorleus joined the military in 2003 as a 12B combat engineer and completed basic training and AIT in July 2003. In 2003, Jay deployed in support of Iraqi freedom and redeployed in 2004. After his second Iraq deployment, Jay applied to attend Special Forces Assessment and Selection (SFAS) and was selected to attend the qualification course. Once he graduated the qualification course, Jay was assigned to 3rd Special Forces Group where he deployed 4 additional times in support of operations enduring freedom.

A graduate of the United States Military Academy in 2010, Alejandro went on to become a professional football player for the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Baltimore Ravens. After majoring in Systems Engineering at the Academy, Alejandro was commissioned a 2LT in the Engineer Branch with a branch detail in the Infantry. During his five years of service, Alejandro served as a Platoon Leader, Executive Officer, and Assistant Operations Officer. His service included a deployment to Afghanistan with 10th Mountain Division and two deployments with 1st Ranger Battalion. In 2010, 2012, and 2014 Alejandro tried out for different NFL teams aspiring to land on a roster. After failed attempts with the Cincinnati Bengals, Chicago Bears, and Philadelphia Eagles, Alejandro made the final 53 man roster in 2015 with the Pittsburgh Steelers. During his seven-year career in Pittsburgh he made 100 starts and was selected to two Pro Bowls while completing an MBA from Carnegie Mellon University. Born in Meridian, Mississippi to Spanish parents, Alejandro currently resides in Miami, Florida. Fluent in Spanish, French, and Portuguese, Alejandro spends his free time with family and enjoys fishing.

Jack is a 32-year veteran of the Central Intelligence Agency (“CIA”). Mr. Devine served as both Acting Director and Associate Director of CIA’s operations outside the United States from 1993-1995, where he had supervisory authority over thousands of CIA employees involved in sensitive missions throughout the world. In addition, he served as Chief of the Latin American Division from 1992-1993 and was the principal manager of the CIA’s sensitive projects in Latin America.
Between 1990 and 1992, Mr. Devine headed the CIA’s Counternarcotics Center, which was responsible for coordinating and building close cooperation between all major U.S. and foreign law enforcement agencies in tracking worldwide narcotics and crime organizations. From 1985-1987, Mr. Devine headed the CIA’s Afghan Task Force, which successfully countered Soviet aggression in the region. In 1987, he was awarded the CIA’s Meritorious Officer Award for this accomplishment.
Mr. Devine’s international experience with the U.S. government included postings to Latin America and Europe. During his more than 30 years with the CIA, Mr. Devine was involved in organizing, planning and executing countless sensitive projects in virtually all areas of intelligence, including analysis, operations, technology and management.

Mr. William Flavin is currently an independent consultant on peace and stabilization. For the past 19 years he was a department of defense civilian at the Peacekeeping and Stability Operations Institute. Previous he was the Assistant Director at the US Army Peacekeeping Institute in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Mr. Flavin assisted PKSOI with the implementation of its Joint Proponent responsibilities in peace and stability operations coordinating with Department of Defense, Department of State and USAID. Additionally, he assisted with advancing the US Governments United Nations initiatives by working with the key member states as well as NGOs and International Forums. Previously he was a senior foreign affairs analyst with Booz Allen and Hamilton on contract to assist the Peacekeeping Institute in doctrine development. Prior to this assignment, he was a Colonel in the US Army serving as the Deputy Director of Special Operations for the Supreme Allied Commander Europe at the Supreme Headquarters, Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) from June 1995 to June 1999. Mr. Flavin served in the US Army for 31 years in Infantry and Special Forces where he has had extensive experience in planning and executing at the Strategic and Operational level. He has participated in many of the key operations from Viet Nam through the Balkans. He was the Special Operations Chair at the US Army War College from 1991 to 1995 and prior to that serve of the staffs of the Officer of the Secretary of Defense and Department of the Army.

Daniel Runyon grew up running around in the backwoods of Illinois. He had a successful high school and Division III college football career. His real passion, however, turned out to be the U.S. Army; a passion he turned into a distinguished career as a Special Forces Commander.
Dan’s moving from the enlisted ranks into the officer corps, at a relatively old age was considered a bold choice and set him apart from other leaders. He would go on to command Special Forces assault teams in Afghanistan and Iraq after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 – 9/11. He ultimately rose in the ranks to command his own Special Forces Company in Iraq.
After his service was complete, Dan moved to Colorado and established Runyon Training Concepts, a high mountain training camp he built from scratch. His programs conditioned professional and non-pro athletes and extreme outdoorsmen and women to conquer the elements and exceed their limits.
He currently lives in Florida with his dogs, spending time with his three grown children and training for his next adventure.
